Some quick notes: 1. From the screenshots we've seen so far, Scheme contracts seem to follow a more linear route to completion in contrast to Event contracts, which have multiple ways of completion. 2. Contracts that rely on a certain attribute will have the respective symbol for said attribute on their icons 3. Players CAN interact with landless characters, but insofar as giving contracts, it's only really for mercenaries (IE retinues) 4. Followers can be sent to 'hold' a contract for you, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be completed for you, rather, they serve as a way to buy you more time 5. You cannot design other followers in the character creator - this may be added in the future 6. Varangians are not playable 7. Converting landed characters requires prestige 8. Certain cultures of adventurers are attracted to certain regions, like Normans and Turks spawning in Greece Link to full dev diary is in the description!
I'm particularly looking forward to the DLC to play with some nomadic dwarven people in LOTR:Realms in Exile. I think a lot of people are eagerly awaiting the DLCs to see how everything will look in the mods.
Well there is even a mod for CK3 that will simulate battle in M&B : Bannerlord. So whenever you have a battle you can chose to launch it in Bannerlord and play it yourself with the right numbers of men with the right equipment and skills, including knights. The mod is called Crusader Blade.
I hope this system evolves to where you could be leading a holy order. Get a more permanent base while not being a truly landed lord. Maybe new succession rules.
I hope Part 2 will contain the possibility to be a proper courtier, so situations like you are suggesting would be possible. Maybe even adapting Estates for Admin Governement families to have as a courtier, replacing the camp until you may start wandering again. But I think that may be too far out to hope for, but I hope they do, wouldn't even mind if they recycled all the graphics from Estates and just gave us different building types (e.g. removing all the levy type modifiers). Maybe that could also be modded in, who knows :)
@@marincusman9303 A Game of Thrones is a mod, based on the show and books of the same name. It's kind of like Lord of the Rings, but with a bit less fantasy elements and overall more realistic. It's also got a good bit of adult themes like extreme violence, gore, nudity (most of which aren't nearly as present in the mod) but the world building and characters are some of the best fiction has to offer. You should definitely watch at least the first seasons of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon if you haven't already and are over 18. The books are much better.
@@deityjc I was thinking game of thrones but couldn’t you’re out A was just a lol… everyone says the finale sucked so idek if I want to start it. Maybe I’ll look into the house of the dragon
This has so much potential for new religious mechanics, I would love to play as a prophet, perhaps creating a new development of the Abrahamic religions as a whole. I'm not upset that they're not using this opportunity, just would have been nice.
theyre probably gonna pack more landless gameplay with other DLC, and likely only if you already have this one. im personally hopinng for a republic DLC
@@TheClassicalSauce Fair point! Mb always will have a place in my heart. Yet thy dynasty building mechanics in CK3 are just so much fun that these two games needed to have a baby.
No way, I don’t want to have a million more events bog up my game speed just because Mercenary Captain Schengelbert is having some random event happen halfway across the map that will not affect the fate of the game in any way
Yes, the catch of only Ai being able to offer contracts is extremely disappointing, that being said there’s no way that one thing will pull down this whole massive DLC.
Maybe we'll finally be able to play as Radagast or the Blue Wizards in the future. I assume Gandalf will have a major campaign with the Fellowship of the Ring in the next update.
Never got on with LOTR mod bc Saruman or Sauron map paint half the map in like 10 yrs…. 😅 (Kind of hard to play as custom tall maiar or a smaller nation when that stuff is going on)
AI adventurers don't exist in the same way once you are landed. AI landed only offer contracts to give the player something to do. Magic teleportation mercenaries will still exist. The game will be a mess after this expansion and the simulation is just player-facing.
@denniswilkerson5536 no I mean the design choice is that this mechanic is/can only be implemented so that it only truly exists if the player is landless. The mechanic ceases to exist when the player becomes landed, and they will script a different landless AI to do stuff when you are landed. This will make the game more uncanny in feeling.
Yes this DLC looks nutty and I’m very excited. The biggest thing being that with the free(?) addition of their version of the Inherichance Mod with the upcoming DLC update campaigns will be much longer. No longer will I unite Rome and just sit around kinda sad there’s nothing left to do. Now I can pick a random landless family member and go somewhere else to start over as a lowly count far away.
It seems to me that everything they've shown so far is still too little content. It adds the template for landless play but if there're not enough events to make it more dynamic and replayable + other interesting mechanics then it'd be a flop. The plague DLC only adds in a few events and the barebone Legend mechanics that doesn't otherwise add much to the game. sigh.
I hope this will extend to being able to play your characters that were landed but then became unlanded due to being deposed. As the game stands now many unlanded characters have claims to titles that can be used by a leige to initiate wars on their behalf. I always thought it would be neat to be able to continue playing your line when deposed and work your way back to reclaiming your lost titles by ingratiating yourself on another leige for their assistance.
Achievement idea: Start as a landless character and become a Count, Duke, King and then Emperor of Francia in that order in one lifetime. Call it the Greatest of the Greats, or True Heir of Charlemagne etc… another would be start as Emperor and become landless in one lifetime, call it the GoT achievement start out with something amazing and destroy it by the end….
They should include submaps such as the Swahili Coast (which is very key as a Muslim Gameplay) and the North Atlantic Coast (which is mainly just the Southern Greenland Coast and parts of Canada, namely the Labrador Coast, Some if not all of Baffin island and Newfoundland Island). I also think the Middle Atlantic Region or Macaronesia would be an ideal inclusion, it would include everything except the bit of the Canary Islands that you already have access to in the game. Do know you need access to certain areas to gain access to these subregional areas. For the Swahili Coast, you must have access (trade port or ownership) in Somalia, for the North Atlantic Coast you need access in Iceland, for Macaronesia you need access to accessible part of the Canary Islands already on the map. A fourth possibility is the West Great Indonesian Coast which gives you access to Coastal parts of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, and parts of Sumatra such as Aceh, which is good as playing from the Indian Subcontinent and to gain access you need access to the Bay of Bengal area. So this gives you a lot of opportunity for further growth if you are a Muslim or Ethiopian Player in East Africa or the Middle East, if you are playing as Spain or Morocco, if you are playing as the Vikings in Northern Europe (which can also be exploited by any Irish or British player if you manage to wrestle control over Iceland as you are not too far away), and If you are playing in India, more specifically in Eastern India, but the goal of being in India is conquer all of it, so eventually you would acquire Eastern India and then expand further into Western Great Indonesia (West Malaysia and West Indonesia). *Edit* It is also possible to mod the game to include Atlantis or if you are playing a Total Conversion like Elder Kings to have Daedric Realms of Oblivion.
Honestly as a long time skeptic of landless it actually seemed to me even worse than I was expecting. Somehow many people are losing their minds but for me they actually underperformed my expectations. There have been dozens of games that did every part of what the dev diary describes better, although I guess those games weren't housed in the CK3 frame game. But still. Seems like they poorly reinvented many wheels.
When will naval combat be added? It's like 50% of the middle ages battles, the two mediterranean superpowers, Rome and the Caliphate, fought very often in the sea, IMO ships should be more than mere transports (the Romans will be even more OP with greek fire haha...)
Followers are primarily generated through interactions like the one shown in the video with the Tengri character, where you come across them while traveling
In one of the responses the devs hinted that landless merchants could be a playable character, and it looks like eastern rome will have different flavor events
@@4Xtraordinaire landless merchant gross ck2 had landed republics these devs have went way to far into rp at the expense of game mechanics thank you for the reply though
I recently went back and played CK2 and the lack of the newer character creator was really hard to get over. Holy Fury and Monks & Mystics are game changing expansions, but areas like Scandinavia, Persia, and Spain are very fun to play in CK3. I’m hoping Greece becomes better to play with Roads to Power
@54032Zepol Haven't played for a while, but from what I remember, there's a point limit in the creator and if you don't go over it you still get achievements
Adventure. Micromanaging a single character rather than a whole kingdom. A change of pace, and different gameplay. A true rags-to-riches experience, hopefully
Brilliant for storytelling. You lose a war and become unlanded. Game over. Or is it? Now, you get to work your way back. Change of pace. Sometimes, rolling over everybody as a super empire isn’t fun.
This was one of the most requested things in Ck for years now It was one of the most popular mods in ck2 Also you can do new things, cause ck3 after a while gets boring after couple of hundreds years, no matter what saves you make it just becomes boring after 200 years into the save Now you can start as a lowborn, go adventure be granted a count somewhere far from where you started like a true rags to riches story
