+Arthur Postma Techno is a primitive word that has been discarded by many artists in this age. Now we refer to this type of music as Trance/House/Club type of music, each similar yet unique in their own ways. No one uses the word techno now. The Fact that they are using it now just shows they don't know what they are talking about. It's not their fault; it's just not their thing obviously.
+Ph Ph no one uses the term techno? thats a very strange and living under a rock type of comment. techno is used all the time and so is house, disco and trance. at least in Europe
+Ph Ph dude, then how do you call it? I live in Germany and you call it god damn techno if it is techno. If it's Drum and Bass, Deep House, Minimal you call it different.
Who said they were "better" than Americans? They're just saying Americans are borderline retarded when it comes to their knowledge of electronic music. And they're not wrong.
Dixon Gomez Because that's how she can make her show interesting.Probably she thinks if she doesn't like techno, then nobody else does and that's why she makes jokes.
Meh. Ellen keeps every interview on the flirty, light side. Never expect to learn a thing, hers is the People Magazine of talk shows. And that's what her core viewership wants.
Ha yeah exactly! What she clearly couldn’t explicitly disclose is how smashed she was and how smashed everyone else was. Hardly an Ellen daytime tv discussion point but to be fair Clair totally confirmed that! 😂😂😂
+BenjiR88 well, she said she got in because she knew a guy knowing the owner. Chances are that she may come in again (depending on her friends connection to the owner)
+Ogidni this isn't ANY type of techno...Berlin, Detroit, whatever. Hard trance, maybe. Either way, it's shit...and I promise this isn't reflective of ALL Americans' perception of dance music
I’ve been to so many great techno parties since I was 19... today I’m 35, I do like more house music nowadays, but man, I’m really happy I lived those days! Brazilllll
I got very angry at the way Ellen displayed German/Berlin Music culture, but than I realized that all those stupid and naive Americans will believe this shit and hopefully won't turn up and ruin Berghain anymore. Good for everyone :). Keep on spreading the Love of Techno!
Stfu, calm the fuck down. Not all "stupid and naive " Americans like techno music. You German should be worried about the crappy VW cars are polluted the world now and not the stupid techno clubs.
+polorider9 Many americans are stupid I agree, but don't act like we would ruin it. BTW techno was started here in america so your welcome you wouldnt have no fucking berghain without us.
polorider9 I am a Native American from NYC but I live in Europe and travel frequently to Berlin and try and go to Berghain and Trèsor every time. So while it’s easy to trash-talk each other’s cultures here on RU-vid, before you do I think you should know that many more Americans than you can imagine are into “good” techno and not the shit that Ellen’s audio guy played on the show. I love hip-hop and other genres, too, but don’t want to hear any one genre all the time, and being a professional musician I’m generally very picky about what I listen to, and I know that many other Americans feel the same way. Unfortunately, the crap that gets played on American radio is not reflective of a huge sector of the population.
Many Americans only know inside the borders of America as if a whole world of different human experiences don't exist at all. Some Americans travel and open their minds and they are some of the best people I've ever met.
OMG I love her SO much , she's one of the biggest actress ever . and so funny to see her in "real life" very different from what we see on Homeland thanks god ;)
I went to Berlin last year cus my friend lived there (and im from Sweden so its very close) and he took me to an underground club and the music was pure base. Absolutely loved it.
"Dad, where is mom?" "Oh honey, you know ... mommy is just gonna hit it with the leather muscle bears in front of the darkroom to hear Ben Klock's closing set. She'll be home by ... well, I better put you to sleep!" Shoulda played Keith Carnal - Prospect ... that's all I have to say.
Claire Danes is the only bright spot in this video. She knows and loves good techno. Ellen comes across as close-minded prune like a stereotypical American.
I'm actually quite fine with this. It shows me that still after all these years people don't get the beauty of the genre and therefore we should be pretty happy about nobody really listening to claire.
Berlin is THE place to party. You just have to know where to go. And yes, be prepared, the crowd can be wild, crazy, bizarre or just gay and shameless. And please, if you´re not willing to join in and just want to look at "different people"...just stay outside and watch the crowd waiting in line to get in. If you´re ready for an experience like Claire described, just go with the flow...and don´t be too upset about what you´re about to experience ;-))
+blabhblaja If you didn't already know about techno before you went there, how would you even know who to ask or what to look for? The locals probably aren't looking to recommend their clubs to newbie tourists.
Christopher Nunn Well if it's such a big deal that it has it's own tourism I think I would have at least heard something, specially since I met a lot of young people my age and went out to clubs a lot.
+blabhblaja nah it depends on what kind of music they like..the club was already ranked 1 on of 100 techno clubs worldwide.Berlin is a multi layered city so its possible you havent heard about it..
Yeah please, talk about the Berghain on national TV. That's exactly what we need in Berlin. Even more tourists until there's no day left one could actually enjoy Berghain.
Berlin needs Tourists, without Tourists and money from the other states would they had to fight for horse carcasses or catching rats while waiting for the next "Rosinenbomber" again.
Shed be such a good friend to party with, play pool and do shots with, or just get coffee with the next day when you have a unyielding and undeserved hangover. Not that id know, I barely have any friends these days truthfully but I just found out that I actually prefer quality over quantity. Shes really endearing and I love that about her.
Actually she broke the golden rule of berghain...she can't just talk about it like that. What happens in berghein stays in berghain. They probably don't let her in again..Das kommt davon ,wenn man keine Ahnung hat...
Talented actress , kudos for her role as Carrie mathison , homeland was a series which sets a standard in secret agencies story telling and many upcoming webseries on the similar topic will try to learn and copy many things from this series and characters...brilliant series ..
Ellen and 90% of her audience probably have such a different idea of what the just described, sucks not being able to explain something that amazing, happens to me a lot with my family when I tell them about the underground scene as well
Somebody to prevent such people from idiocratisation ? Nothing's accurate in this sequence : 1 - this music isn't techno (not even good old eurodance by the way) 2 - there is no shity shiny dresscode in techno 3 - WHAT HAPPENS IN BERGHAIN STAYS IN BERGHAIN STFU FFS.
Gosh, she is so amazing. I saw some bits from Romeo and Julliet and she was so great there... so cute, pure, innocent and it was such a good contrast to the cruelty of the story. Her immaculate performance makes that movie. So I came here to check an interview or something and found out that she is an amazing person in real life too 🔥❤🔥
This moment when people who have no idea think they can or should talk about somethig. Sorry Ellen, that's a no-go. And this wasn't even Techno. But Claire is cool
Best thing In Berlin is that you're not aloud to take pictures in the clubs!! 😎🙌🏽, they put a sticker on your phone camera... (that was my experience around 2016) and she's right, its awesome! 🇩🇪
She is so right, the Berghain is a really cool club but their are so many other really good clubs where you can dance your ass of or do other stuff. It's Berlin, so do what you want!
