Clamp Fan Battle! (Ryobi Clamp Fan vs. Hart Clamp Fan)

Battle of the cordless clamp fans. Ryobi made a huge smash hit this past summer with the launch of their mini cordless clamp fan. they have been next to impossible to find as soon as they come in stock they sell out, they're even selling for 223 x MSRP on eBay. Hart, the Ryobi cousin from Walmart has decided to throw their hats in the ring with their own version of a clamp fan. it's the same price, $20 but the build quality seems to be clearly... well, cheaper. one that would usually be a negative on something that is supposed to be a lightweight portable device this might actually work out in favor of their new fan. #FanLife

Honestly I'd buy the Hart fan. Reason being availability to a Walmart in your area. I don't have any of there tools but I've looked at them several times while killing time in the store. Seem pretty legit for your average DIY prosumer or garage mechanic.

With all of the qualifications of your question, I would pick the Hart for sure. I think it is a more versatile fan. I am not in either battery line up but if I had to pick a battery platform between the 2 i am going Ryobi. They have way more options and tools, and would live with the inferior fan for the many tools I can get on the platform.

I recently got into the Ryobi line specifically for gadgets like this. I picked up clamp fans for the whole family, the bucket fan, and the hybrid fan. Love them all. I'm waiting g for fall fan clearance for the big hybrid fan THAT Ryobi offers. Big orange has a bunch in stock, and I expect to see them drop in the coming weeks. I see you are outside of my neighborhood HF. 😉

Since there’s a Home Depot for every Walmart where I live, I would have to go with Ryobi. They have a bigger tool line and Hart is generally less quality for similar price. Plus, Ryobi/The Home Depot put tools on sale regularly but Walmart doesn’t.

Born and raised in Las Vegas. The heat is a love/hate situation. I rather take this heat than live in humidity any day. We don't have to deal with rust most of the time because of that. Anyways, I would go with the booger green Ryobi because I don't like shoping at Walmart, I'm not fond of white, and I don't like how the fan tilts from the clamp.

Being I have Ryobi tools and assortment lights, and a Bluetooth speaker, I obviously want the fan like many other people do. But simply can't locate them locally. I would consider the Heart if I could get the batter and charger cheap. But I feel that would open the door for other purchases of tools I don't need. Got into the Milwaukee 12v line due to size and durability. Plus due to the sales last Christmas.

The in-store placement of the 4" clamp fans has been helter-skelter, and the inventory control has been awful. But I guess that's more of a general Home Depot shortcoming than Ryobi's fault. Glad you were able to score a couple though... it pays to keep a keen eye, at the 'deeps.

Only issue with Walmart is over time they have a tendency to swap out product lines, Ryobi while I agree about their battery shape, their unwillingness to change it is a selling point for people. I've often thought Ryobi could change their battery line if they just provided an adapter like Dewalt had for their ni-cad's and eventually people would buy the new version of tools.
@murphymmc

Hart, cuz I'm not going into the Ryobi system. I'm already in the , arguably overpriced, Milwaukee system. I have a bunch of their tools as I'm a builder and needed really good stuff. That being said, the less expensive lines are pretty dang good these days. A 4ah battery would be a must, so that may shift the scales back to Ryobi. I've purchased aftermarket batteries for Milwaukee, read the reviews, made the call, haven't been disappointed. You could probably buy 4 Ryobi fans for 1 Milwaukee, that's a point worth considering.

@@denoftools I hiked around Colorado and New Mexico in the month of July many years ago. The lower humidity, even when temps were in the upper 90s / lower 100s, made it much more comfortable compared to the very high humidity levels we have been experiencing here along the Mid-Atlantic coast. It hasn’t been unusual to have >95% humidity in the morning, with mid-day levels in the 50-60% range. At those levels, even daytime temps in the upper 80s / lower 90s sap the strength out of you. 🥵

Red I don't have a clue why you don't move out of that hell. I've been to vegas maybe 4 times in my life and each I say never again. But some time in my life I will go back. Loved going to the Hoover Dam and that national park near the town. Each time I step outside and get that strong gust of dry hot 100 degree air, I say to myself, and this is a vacation? One things for sure, if the Colorado river gets bone dry, you guys are in a heap of trouble. And that's coming sometime in the future. Hopefully you will be buried deep in soil when that happens. I have a bunch of Ryobi tools and I'm with you, I can't stand the stub sticking out of the battery. What a poor design but tools are cheap and they work. The plastics aren't top notch on any Ryobi tool though. Wouldn't drop them either.
