Proud to be a Fraser. Have met Fraser's from around the world, and visited "Fraser Town" in India. I am an American, and as far as I have been able to research my family came to the area around Quebec, Canada by way of Antrim, Ireland, and from Canada into northern tier of USA and with my great grandfather finally settling in South Dakota. Thank you for your work in sharing of Clan Fraser of Lovat.
An irony indeed with the highlanders fighting for the english after years of brutal persecution by the english. Only a few head highlanders or chiefs would get the riches and land back. True that the scots joined the english for a means to make a living but then what other choices did they have? How many families would have lost their lands, with no prospects in sight, as well as being prejudice against. The sly english certainly set up the conditions for the Scots and the irish to have to join the army for a living.
Paul Keddington My grandpa said we were descendants of Simon Fraser. The oldest son’s name was William Johnson Fraser. Have you heard of this name? All the first born son’s got it. I haven’t been able to pay for family history searches yet so I’ve been asking around since all the family members who would know, that I knew, are deceased. Thank you 🙏🏼
The original Sir Simon Fraser fought alongside Robert the Bruce and was said to have saved the King of Gules’ life three times during one of the final battles. Netting the Fraser of Lovat’s coat of arms quarterly with three Red Antique Crowns. (Among the the second and third quarterly being the white strawberry flower on a blue field)
Well my great nan was lost in the bombings… I never got to know her. I’m just a septy sept … I do prefer the old sporting plaid. It’s so pretty. It’s Sim, if you are curious.
Very informative David thank you, my 4× great grandfather James Fraser left with his family in the 1800s when they were driven from their land, leaving with Norman Mccloud and many of other clans to find a new home by water, first to Nova Scotia then to New Zealand.. We are very proud of our Scottish ancestry and I'm doing my best to find out more, its hard when I'm on the other side of the world... If anyone can help me with my family tree I would be very grateful..
Hi my grandfathers dad came to Sydney Australia from New Zealand around 1900 c and his brother Edwin Gordon Fraser is pictured in World War 1 with the King inspecting the troops on a royal tour , I hear New Zealand has much Fraser history ! All the best cousin
