Before we had written laws, justice was determined through a consensus of our tribe’s clan structure. In this Cherokee Almanac, we take a look at Cherokee systems of justice and their evolution over time.

There is a book 'Cherokee Clans: an Informal History' by Donald Yates. Donald Yates says that there used to be 12 clans. Clans of the Cherokee with JP Johnson is on RU-vid. He explains how a clan could be lost among other clan related information. I believe he works for the Heritage Center.
I'm trying to find out my ancestry. I've been told that my great-grandmother was a Cherokee. Bear clan member but I've also been told. There is no bear clan. If you can help me I would Appreciate any help I can get.
It's very difficult do, due in part to the Dawes Commission and the Resettlement in Oklahoma. Unless you luck out and have a matrilineal ancestral lineage that is mentioned somewhere in the historical texts.
@@jbsulls I have asked and no one knows. The women in my family didn't like to talk about the removal and this is a result of the removal. Proud to be an Cherokee Citizen!
Its funny how similar to jewish traditions the old ways seem, no pork, seventh day sabbath, baptize in water, even the old language was similar to the language Moses was asked to write the Torah as there were two types of Hebrew back then, the common one being used called in lay terms block Hebrew, even the writer James Adair made this connection being Jewish himself it was a spiritual experience for him to find here, it seems it really saddened him to see so many turn to modern ways. The old snake ate its tail.
Adair was Irish not Jewish being one of his descendants. Cherokee is not similar to Hebrew or any Semitic language. Aramaic, Hebrew, Arabic, Amharic all contain a lot of similarities. Cherokee is Iroquoian.
i think you're seriously mistaken. i don't know where you learned any of this, but not one bit of it is true including down to that moses wrote the torah... not a single scholar of torah or old testament believes that. the evidence says otherwise. and it's insulting to the cherokee people to compare them to a people across the world that they had nothing at all to do with. please do your homework and learn some things. there was no baptism. the only mention was that they washed themselves daily in water. that's not baptism. it didn't say they didn't eat pork. you need to pay attention. stop trying to make everything fit into your worldview which is clearly flawed. this is exactly what the spanish did... tried to make the cherokee people fit into their worldview by dehumanizing them.
Natives are beautiful Absolutely beautiful. Look at all of history and most groups of people were barbaric ...it seems natives just weren't. They didn't participate in slavery either. As in keep slaves from my knowledge. These people honestly had things right. Except I think the death sentence shouldn't be a thing....ever.
Which Indian religion are you referring to? There are at least 300 different tribal religions in the US alone so which of those would be the true religion of the continent?
