Great footage Lewis, you continue to set the bar high. 👏👏 Ever thought of doing a video about the old Trafficmaster network that used to be along most major roads?
Great Vid Lewis... Back in the early 90s, I used to live in a cottage at Blubberhouses just a few fields from Menwith Hill... The cottage was overlooking the A59 into Harrogate.. I used to get all sorts of strange breakthrough coming though the TV...Also used to chat to the CND Ladies, camped up on the A59 near the local Pub.. BTW my.exam is on the 30th July... Boom 💥 73
I had a job interview up there in 1976 after leaving College with Pye Telecom's for Repair Technician... That was in the days of which job offer should I take... Pye, GPO, Ferranti's, British Aerospace...
@@alangiles2763 I actually took a job through a friend of the Family... I ended up working for a German Company... With a UK presence That led to another job, and another.. Then to work for Hewlett Packard for 22 years. Managed to retire @ 61 :).
They have a transmitter site like this in Cincinnati Ohio which is close to me. They have specific people that are required to report to the bunker which is completely sealed and self contained with generators and enough food and water for months. They literally have to lock themselves inside the bunker and transmit emergency updates. 700 WLW is the station that uses the transmitter for day to day operations but the main studio is actually 10+ miles away from the transmitter. The bunker is closer to the transmitter but not noticable for what it is. the station can reach out multiple States depending on the weather of course.
Thanks for that, and especially the opening date, which eliminates involvement in its siting from my family history. You have saved me a lot of research. It's a good account. The two policemen were apparently Special Constables - part time volunteers - not there permanently (source: a Wiganers web page, years ago). They would only be needed to cover scheds, which were probably very brief. One wonders whether they had any success. It would make sense for the police to gather evidence of illegal wireless nets in wartime, saving the Secret Service from attending court proceedings and allowing GCCS to get on with higher priority work. Both of those organisations were at full stretch throughout the war.
When i worked at FCO Hanslope Park back in the 1970's we had to do work at some of our out station like Gawcott, Poundon & Cresslow Transmitting stations. These stations have been sold off to private commercial places but they have still got a very nice fence around them but no H/F ariels or transmitters in them. Marc in Bletchley Towers G6XEG
Went there a couple of times in the 90's when I worked for the Home Office IT Department (ED5) - I wrote a program to track repairs on wireless equipment. I also went to Kippax near Leeds, Andover and Bishops Cleeve.
Could you do something on Inskip. I think it’s still an operational military HF station. And The Godfather of radio sites - Winter Hill. I had the chance to tour it a long time ago when I worked on spectrum analyzers at HP. It was all analog TV back in the day. Be interesting to see how that’s changed. Cheers KM6YUB.
We had a visit to Winter Hill in the mid 70's... I recently contacted Arqiva,, they said no more visits due to Health & Safety. The road up up is now marked "Private, no vehicular access"... only Bike/Foot & Horseback.
I love the under ground bunker, always fancied a radio room like that 😂 seriously, really good video, great music and visuals as usual, people take their mobile phones and the ability to make calls and send pictures anywhere for granted, great to see the foundations literally in this video of such a site, ill go further and say anyone found damaging or attacking this equipment as we have seen recently should be banned from using it for life, biometric log on for every phone should do it 🤫🙈😎
Very interesting and all ways dreamed of getting my a antenna up there and what do you think of 245mhz radios and antennas hard to find tracked antennas down to China. And Japan and it the cb freqs in Thailand.so the next phase will be good
Thanks Lewis for the link and debunking the rumours about the police, which were still being repeated online a decade ago. CND never let the truth get in the way of a good story. This is not the only isolated high ground where antennae, reservoirs and old ROC bunkers are found together. Their colocation is due to the scarcity of suitable sites, not common purpose, just as lowest points often feature surface water drainage, sewage pumping stations and former mill leats colocated - systems which are completely separate.
Good stuff - really enjoying this channel. It's amazing how easily people attach conspiracy theories to a mast with a few odd bits sprouting from it... (mind you, there _are_ some odd things at Saxa Vord :) ) Have you done MOULD?
For some reason, this video makes me want to play cyberpunk 2077. Having been dumb enough to buy it at launch, the game’s bugs have become a tad endearing. Maybe that’s just a coping mechanism over the $60 US I spent on it.
