About Clanfolk:
Clanfolk is an elaborate, challenging life sim set in the highlands of medieval Scotland. Live off the land, survive and grow your Clan’s settlement. Every tile on the map has a purpose and where you place your settlement, and how you build it, really matters. The largest threat to your Clan will be nature itself and while food will initially be plentiful and the nights warm, as the seasons change resources will dwindle and careful planning becomes critical. Surviving your first winter won’t be easy…
Choose where to begin your homestead, in a wilderness surrounded by mountains, forests, grasslands, and lakes. Over time you may develop it into an industrial farm, or a livestock ranch, or a bustling trading post, or a quiet forest Inn, or maybe a hidden mountain fortress.
Create unique structures, use fire to light rooms and vent heat to adjacent buildings, till the land, harvest, and care for livestock.
From birth until death, your clan will live their whole lives over multiple generations. They’ll follow daily schedules, wake before sunrise, take their morning meals, wash, change and have conversations before the day begins. Throughout the day, they will work as hard as their mood and health will allow and in the evening, they finally come back together to eat, drink and sleep before they do it all over again.
Grow your clan’s skill proficiencies that can be passed down from generation to generation. See to their needs of hunger, sleep and warmth, tend to their moods and nurture your clan through multiple life stages (babies, juveniles, adults, seniors).
Visitors will occasionally arrive from neighbouring clans surrounding your homestead. Over time your reputation with these clans can grow based on how they are treated as guests, workers, or traders. As your reputation with them increases, contact will strengthen, providing better opportunities.
Each neighbouring clan comes from a unique biome filled with different products and desired items for trade. The savvy player can run a profitable trading post if there is enough trade traffic from these neighbouring homesteads. As seasons progress, different items become more scarce and therefore more expensive.
Winter in Clanfolk is always approaching and your time needs to be spent wisely. Each Season has ranges of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and even windchill. Some seasons are for growing and others for harvesting. Winter is for staying inside a warm and cozy room toprocess the materials collected throughout the year.
Seasons play a key part in Clanfolk’s gameplay, with environmental effects (such as moisture) impacting on flammability of objects or ground fertility. Understanding season transitions and being prepared for them is key to survival.

The happier they are the faster they get points so with their skills, it helps to put the happy faces at the top and the sad faces at the bottom and work from there. Also I usually worry about food and shelter first and then make things pretty.

Hay and straw can be the same plant there's a lot of different kinds of hay and there's a lot of different kinds of straw. Assuming that it's grass if you wait until it has gone to seed and dried out it's now straw. The difference between straw and hay is the difference between green leaves on a tree in the brown leaves that fall. The plant has removed all of the nutrients. Since it is lacking nutrients it doesn't decay easily. Hey is dried also but it was green therefore it's full of nutrients and it's used for animal food. If he gets wet it decays very fast because it's full of nutrients it can decay so quickly that the stuff will catch on fire 🔥 from the heat given off by the bacteria

But the game is wrong in that you can't ever turn hay into straw. The majority of straw that you would buy in a store comes from wheat. So I think in game you should get straw when you harvest a grain it should be a second resource from the crop requiring its own harvesting after the grain heads are harvested.

@@ernestlam5632 I think Straw is the leftovers from Wheat (or would Grains be better, I bet it is the same for Oats too?) threshing. Straw is the Stalks of the various Grasses that we harvest as Grains and we take the seed heads for Food and what is left is the straw, good for bedding (many people use wood shavings today for their animals because Straw is harder to get in many areas) and building and insulating but not a food source. Interesting that Bamboo is a Grass relative and is used in building as well. Many road side construction projects used a Straw Bale as a filter after they disturbed the ditch (re digging it for example)... and this 'filter' was a good source of important stuff for gardening (smaller than farming in area, but needing the same sort of stuff for the soil). But this year I have not seen the Straw Bales, instead there are a series of almost pool noodle things (which are probably useless afterwards and are synthetic).

Just an FYI to clear your confusion about why the Work Zone wasn't boosted: when you originally tried to boost it you accidentally had the roof construction above it selected instead. That roof did get built very quickly though! ;)

Heather and Thistle I think I read will be used for medicinal stuff eventually, but right now you can break thistle down to hay and heather down to branches, it's not too efficient but is a good emergency backup source, you don't use the thresher thing for it, you just use the bomb icon on a batch of selected plant. Also leaving or planting heather and thistle around houses/along paths mid to late game when you aren't just trying to survive gives a great beauty boost and makes clanfolk happier. There is a daub wall in the game, too, and it's usually the first wall I personally unlock- I don't find wattle or hay/straw walls worth it in terms of amounts needed for each segment of wall. I'm really liking the idea points, though I'm sure some tuning is needed, I like having to be careful about what I put the points into first as a challenge, (for example, outright skipping the hay and wattle walls to use the points to build up to daub.) And just going to mention because it took someone on forums pointing it out to me- when you get your first hounds, on the lower right of their character page when selected, you can set them to follow their owner (default), to guard livestock, or to have hunting with any hunter a priority- and when on 'hunter' mode they guard livestock when not hunting, so I tend to like that one at least until I get pasture walls up.

I got this game as part of a bundle with another game. I tried it for about 30 min and closed it. Thanks for taking the time to go through everything. I think I will try another run, now that I have some idea of what stuff does. Thanks. Hope you have a great time in Sweden

Thanks! I do hope you give it another go. It's one of my top 5 games of all time. It's not easy... so just give yourself a few iterations to learn how to survive your first winter.

When you click on jobs, check 100% harvesting in the little box or you will be cutting down immature plants and not get as many ingredients.

Nope. Completely different. It's shocking that you don't see all the gorgeous details in this game. Sad

It's definitely similar, but in the same way a first person shooter is similar to another fps. This game is much more focused on the progression of time than rimworld. Rimworld is way more focused on surviving events, where this game is surviving the world.
