This scene is perfect at portraying why Akio is the man. While I admittedly found him annoying in season 1, in After Story he pulls a 180 and became one of my all time favorite characters. Most fathers in animes are almost always either deadbeat drunks or hard rule sticklers; vanilla characters with no originality that barely or often don't contribute anything meaningful to the story. But here he's a hysterical guy who breaks the mold and really brings a lot to the show.
It's interesting. I started the VN a few episodes before this scene and Tomoya says in his first lines that he wishes the trees here would be cut down so he can go to school faster... and it's at this spot. Now he gets this 'flashback'/zone-out at this place that reminds him of that.
I wonder if he gets that look because now it's different. Like, maybe he realizes that now that things have changed time has really progressed, and at a speed he's having a hard time accepting.
I wonder what Tomoya was thinking here 1:50? That things were changing too quick? That maybe time was passing much quicker than he anticipated? What was it?
I think the nagisa's father's doing that on purpose. I remember that episode where it Nagisa finds out that her dad used to be an actor and her mom used to be a teacher. They do these little things just to put a smile on her daughter's face. I cried when she died, I cried even more when he told his wife she could cry now.
