+TheKappa lol i remember watching the show for the first time, and literally reading that line that you mention, and as i saw the words, it suddenly hit me. i want to have a daughter myself, its such a powerful moment. it makes you see that perspective of what its like to have your own child, a little human that looks at you and relies on you to live and trusts you with all its heart. real strong line.

+TheKappa for me the one sceme that made me proper cry was when Tomoyo finally told his dad to go home and that he had done enough I just got overwealmed and found it so touching, I felm for Tomoyo I felt for his dad and was just so happy that he finally told him he'd done enough. the train scene is also the other scene to and still make me teary eyed. If you have played the second pokemon mystery dungeon games time, darkness and sky it would be no less difficult to notice, and another reason why japanese entertainment is so special. (Turned 23 the other day on the 9th, the same age Nagisa evenutally ended up being.)

that train scene. that goddamn train scene. where tomoya, who for the first time in what feels like forever has regained some happiness in life, starts telling his daughter about her mother. and then the emotional flashbacks overcome him and he can't help but to cry vigorously and say out her name with that desperate smile and his face frozen in sadness and regret because the realization has hit him once again. and the flashbacks of the moments he shared with nagisa up to the point of her passing. that in combination with the music hitting it's climax and exploding simultaneously with tomoya bursting out in tears. it doesn't matter how often i watch this scene or how much i think i am prepared for it. it always hits me. this whole atmosphere, that clannad has crafted in over 30 episodes leading up to what i would describe as one of the most emotional moments, not only in this series, but in anime overall. the regret, pain, and mostly love, that he still feels for nagisa after all these years passing and him trying to forget what he held so dearly. i have not a shadow of a doubt in my mind that everyone, who has been watching and feeling this series up to this moment, trying to keep up composure just like tomoya tried to, finally broke down during this moment. it's just excellent in every sense of the word.
@ymh12345
@ymh12345 4 года назад
That scene killed me. It felt like it happened to me, and I had totally the same emotions like I was in his place. This series just makes you create such connections to the characters and feel and care so much for them, they really bring you through that journey and make you experience what they experience

What you said is absolutely true. I somehow maintained my composure when nagisa died at ep 16(I mean i somehow managed but i was completely broken inside), then at that train scene, THAT GODDAMN TRAIN SCENE, it hit me hard, like fucking hard, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the voice acting everything was perfect. I never cried that hard in my entire life. Yeah full grown man crying like a baby

It's funny when people say that anime is only for enterteinment and can't make you learn things for the real life. Honestly, i have learnt A LOT watching anime series. I'm so glad that i found anime, it's like my salvation for real life, and this one is a great example that makes you think about a lot of things. You can watch any anime series like Naruto, SAO, etc etc etc... But Clannad is just the best in it's genre, a truly masterpiece.

"The best tears are those which you don't know are already flowing out." The scene where Tomoya was telling Ushio about Nagisa and he suddenly teared up remembering about her, along with the flashback was the most intense feels moment that I have ever seen in any anime. The entire anime really built up to that moment very spectacularly. Thank God for Clannad and Jun Maeda. One of the best IMO
@bryguy062485
@bryguy062485 8 лет назад
+xxJinraixx This times a million. The other scenes that were sad in this were kind of cliche, although Key does have a knack for squeezing out extra emotion even from a cliche event. But that scene on the train, when Tomoya is telling Ushio about Nagisa. THAT is REAL emotion. It was NOT an overused anime trope and it sure as hell wasn't cliche. I have to say it's the most "real" moment I've ever experienced in any work of fiction, ever.

As a child I was never fond of anime. It was in my eighteenth year that I started watching anime on the internet, just to improve my Japanese language skills. Earlier, I had heard of Clannad, its reputation as a "tear-jerker". Back then, I failed to understand how an animated series can bring one to tears. It's just a cartoon for crying out loud, I would say. But then in my eighteenth year, I watched the series. And its sequel. Now I can cross my heart and say, my vocabulary can never suffice to describe how I felt while watching it. It was just the waves of inexplicable pain crashing into me, and the hot tears running down my face. God knows my opinion of anime changed that day. P.S. I am sorry...I should not have been ranting here. Please forgive me.

@pdp6839
@pdp6839 3 года назад
@@Ashiq.Ibrahim Well I don't really think so, that's why I specified episodes 16-22. You see the first half of Clannad After Story is pretty much the same as Clannad, the stories while good, are just not as emotionally investing for me as the the last few episodes of the series. It's around episodes 10-13 that the show starts to shift a little from its original style. But for me, with episode 16, the show just elevates to a whole new level and it maintains that emotional rollercoaster for those 7 episodes straight. That's why I think that episodes 16-22 specifically, are some of the best episodes in anime with episode 18 standing on top of them. Then again, it's just my opinion.

When I listen to this song I imagine myself holding hands with my future daughter or son and my wife in the other. Clannad has taught me that in life, the most beautiful thing on this earth is to able to have family and friends. Because of this heartwarming and eye opening story I truly believe that when my child is born, I am going to cry uncontrollably because memories of this anime will fill my mind. And they will continue to do so for the rest of my life. Right now, I am going through school and the only thing that keeps me working hard is the thought that one day I am going to have to take care of the two people I hold most dear, wherever they are. Thank you forever and ever writer of Clannad and Musical composer Jun Maeda. You have saved my life with this amazing story.

Dude actually... what you just wrote there... that was beautiful. I totally feel the exact same way. I remember I used to laugh at the idea of having a girlfriend or a wife and child. its been 5 years when i first watched CLANNAD im rewatching it now for the 3rd time in those 5 years. CLANNAD has changed my life and will continue to do so. I used to be a victim of bullying back then, always isolated. Alone. It turned me into a boy with a bad personality. Getting into a lot of fights. I had no plans of going to college and no dream to try and pursue. Until i found anime. School Rumble was my first anime. But, what really got me attached to anime was CLANNAD. It changed my view of life. It taught me to be happy in the saddest of times. To look for the right people to be with. To forgive. To be friendly. Just 2 months after watching CLANNAD 5 years ago, i ended up hanging out with girls instead, who accepted me even though almost the whole class rejected me. Because of CLANNAD and them, i was able to make friends and got accepted by my new batch of classmates the next year. Im very thankful of them. Right now, I'm taking a 4 year course in college and is 2 years away from graduating and is leaving for Canada after it. Even though we haven't seen each other in 2 years, even if they've forgotten me. I will never forget them. Someday, i will see all of you again and hang out with all of you like the good old times.

TwilightPrince64 Sorry this is late but, yes I totally agree. Before Clannad, having a family and children was something I thought of as a burden. That it's something you do out of obligation after marriage. But now I see why people do it. It truly is the one and only thing that keeps you moving. And that is what true happiness is. Having a purpose and being able to share that purpose with all of those you hold close.

It's one thing to make you cry through sadness, but it's nothing short of amazing to make you cry through overwhelming happiness. That, I feel, is the real strength of Clannad. The ability to make us realize the power of something so simple and precious in each of us that never truly goes away. To me, that's what love truly is. That's what family truly is. That's what Clannad truly is.

She stood still at the foot of a hill to school. Guess what she said at the foot of the hill? She close her eyes and said, "Sweet bean bread." Saying something she wanted to eat out loud helped her gather her courage. Sanae-san was busy at that time and didn't have time to make Mommy's bento. Maybe she said she could try to make it but Momy said not to. That's what Mommy was like. Then... Ah... right... then... Mommy was... Nagisa... Nagisa... Nagisa... Why are you crying too? When Ushio says that the robot was the first toy he had ever given her, I think Tomoya realized then just how horrible of a father he had really been to her. For the last 5 years he had never once bought her a single toy, piece of candy, or anything. Not for Christmas or her birthday, or simply just because he wanted to do something nice. Hence why he cries and asks her if she wants him in her life and if its okay to stay. I think she always wanted to be close to Tomoya, and love her father, but he kept her at arm's length because the pain of losing Nagisa was nearly too much for him to bear. It was probably made even worse anytime he saw Ushio because he likely saw so much of Nagisa in her. But I'm glad he was finally able to realize that Ushio was the one who needed him now and that he couldn't live like he had been for the last five years any longer. He had done enough neglecting his responsibilities as a parent and father to Ushio; he wanted to be happy again, and in being with Ushio he had rediscovered his reason to keep living. Although we never hear him say it out loud, I believe Ushio was the reason why Tomoya managed to exist for another few years before rediscovering why he bothered to still breath..

Clannad truly does change a person's outlook on life. Before I watched it, I honestly thought the whole world was against me. Thoughts like that kept entering my mind when my family belittled me for everything I did. And the fact that I had no one to talk to about anything really hurt, and this anime felt very familiar. I watched nearly the whole first season in one night, and was crying at the dumbest parts; it was just too relatable. But I didn't really know there was an After-Story for about a week. In that week though, I did talk to the one person I considered my friend. It kind of hit me that family doesn't always have to be "blood-related" but instead people who you can truly open up to; and she was that type of person to me. When I did watch the second season, I saw he did finally forgive his father and understand just how much was sacrificed. That was absolutely beautiful to me. Such a simple scene kept me crying for probably thirty minutes. But if you ever considered watching this, please do. It'll change your life for sure. And to me, it seems the harder your life is, the sadder it is. I'm not a father yet, but this touched my heart so much, and I may watch it again when that time comes.

The music, the emotions, the characters, the weird supernatural stuff, and the setting (The City of Light and Miracles as they say) are all something special you could only every experience once and only really once. You can rewatch but those first moments with the series are something you can only ever feel once. Ushio, the robot, the Illusionary World, Tomoya's efforts with the light orbs, Nagisa's courage, under the tree as a family. Man, makes you wish upon having a family and going through those hardships in order to to have those nice memories to look back on.

Okay so...here's the thing. I don't know where else to put this, but the fourth English dub voice actor I was ever introduced to in anime was a man named David Matranga. You may know him more recently as the voice of Shoto Todoroki from MHA, but to me, he'll always be Tomoya Okazaki. Clannad was the second anime I ever watched, and I watched it front to back. When I say this anime made me cry, I don't mean shedding a tear or two. I mean I _bawled my eyes out, eyes stinging, screaming myself raw--I couldn't even see the screen._ That was largely because of this music (which I can't get through without smiling and crying in the same go), but it was also because of Matranga's *_masterful_* performance during the field scene and the train ride back. Say what you want about anime dubbers, but this man made Clannad a life-changing experience for me. Seriously, just go look up "Clannad After Story English Dub Field Scene." I could truly feel the grief and happiness of a father just waking up from a dark depression. He'll probably never see this, but thank you, man. Thank you so much.

Can you imagine the struggles Ushiro went through not having her father and having to cry alone in the bathroom? Just thinking about it, over 7 years after the fact of watching it, makes my heart ache. And then even more so knowing real kids experience the same. The places where wishes come true II, one of my most favorite musical pieces but sometimes it's hard to listen to because every time I cry. Same with Nagisa's theme. But... but when I hear the songs over again, all of them, the memories come flooding back, and that's when I cry. I feel just like the characters in this anime, and you can feel what they feel. I just... just... its just.... FEELS!!!!

0:53 That moment when Ushio cried out loud in his father's arms... I felt that. The feels kicked in pretty damn hard on that one. Then when I watched it for like the fourth time I managed to tear up. I'll be honest m8 I rarely cry on anime and even then I only kinda forced myself to let it out but still, it really has the feels. Clannad has a pretty good story. Season 1 has this "high school life" atmosphere. Tomoya making friends with people, knowing what they're out and about. After Story gives you a taste of "family life", getting a job, and being a father. It's really sad when Nagisa died giving birth to Ushio. You'd think they would become a happy family but no, things took a turn for the worst, and now Tomoya's going to have to raise his daughter without the person he loves.

Remember there’s two parts of Clannad. Clannad Clannad: After Story Including the OVA with it being 2 episodes that don’t include nagisa with Tomoya as a love partner. If it made you cry or not Clannad showed how reality can be in the spectrum of both good and bad. •Watching the two people you care so much in the world die. Or •Living life peaceful with the family you created. Both points still show sadness and understanding that the character have to endure and how they go by life with or without someone. That being said Clannad:AS really provided a lot of understanding moments people can relate to at any age, from a son not acknowledging his father until he knows his past to forgive him. A husband who loses his wife during birth and neglects his daughter for 5 years until they meet up again and bond back together. And many more hardships anyone can face, it’s a work of art honestly for how it was created.

+Owen Ernst Yeah I know how you feel man. Every single time I get to that part of the song the scene of Ushio and Tomoya in the fields pops up in my mind....it's like I'm watching the anime when I'm not

that is the climax and best part of this OST. the composer must be a genius to make it in perfect sync with the emotional scenes

Emotions are something that all humans have and reveal in all sorts of ways. This show touched me in ways that I can never explain and I know that others are out there as well who feel the same love and admiration that I do toward clannad and clannad after story❤️BIG DANGO FAMILY😭😭😭❤️

After first this wonderful masterpiece since it was first aired, comparing to when I watched it just a few days ago. Honestly it’s a great work of art.. the right portion of comedy, drama, life lessons and sad moments is beautiful. Each character was well developed throughout the series...

Do you want to hear about Mommy? All right. Then come here. Let's see... Even the first time we met. She wasn't sure of herself and was weak. She stood still at the footof the hill to school. Guess what she said at the foot of the hill? She closed her eyes and said, "Sweet bean bread." That was Mommy's habit. Saying something she wanted to eat out loud to gather her courage. Sanae-san was really busy at the time and didn't have the time to make Mommy's bento. Maybe she could have if she'd tried, but Mommy said not to. That's what Mommy was like. Then... Ah... Then... And then... Mommy was... Nagisa... Nagisa... Nagisa... [Daddy...] Why are you crying, too. Sorry. I was remembering Mommy. All right, let's keep going. Nagisa. I found it. やっと見つけたんだ I finally found it. Something only I can protect. The precious thing only I can protect. It was... ...right here. To be honest, Nagisa smile at the end makes this scene even more hurt than it is.

Last comment was 4 years ago I originally posted watching this show, I rewatched it today with my now Wife. Prior to my old comment she was my girlfriend for the time being. I had her watch this show and she was brought to both laughter, shock, tears, and empathy for the characters. If it's one thing, I would love to hope my mind gets erased to rewatch this as if it was my first time.
