Clappers, Ban 板 - Chinese percussion 

The lady is beautiful and elegant and the grandpa with his rap is cute and adorable. I loved this!

Loved everything about this video, but especially the "Chinese Rap" at the end. It finally MAKES SENSE to my students how the clappers can accompany poetry.

Recently, I have been watching a lot of historical Chinese dramas and have become fascinated with the drum sound that is occasiinally played in the dramas. It's usually played when a scene has become more dramatic or change to a scene that is more intense. The four treasures appears to be the instrument that most closely mimics the drum sound except in the film the sound is slightly deeper/more base (just slight. Possibly, it's the room its being recorded in, which gives it more texture, its almost hollow like). The Four Treasures, this would also explain the change in speed that occurs in the dramas. Sometimes it's very short slow claps, which are quickly followed by rapid claps that then fade. The sound really adds to the scene and one my favourite compoenents of the Chinese historical drama.
