Shields need a lot of work when she is on the ground. She throws punches wildly and her opponent rushes in to take her to the ground. She has figured out how to get out of clinches and holds when she is on the ground.
She literally is helpless in the ground. Every time she goes into attack mode she completely forgets about defense and she get's taken down almost all the time when she's in that attack mode. She needs a whole lot of work on the ground or she's gonna be taken down each and every time and beat-up on the ground.
5:30 shows how much natural strength she has how easily she pivoted and moved her opponent. Imagine if she actually knew what to do with grappling in the moment !!!!
Chuck Liddell was probably the best example of the sprawl and brawl philosophy that Claressa can use, but Chuck was also a D1 (or was it D2 ?) wrestler in college. Takedowns and takedown defense are such an acquired art. I wonder if Claressa can do it?
MMA is not only about striking! Its also about control. Claressa couldn't get out of bottom position, lost control & pressure. Welcome to MMA Claressa...this could be a learning lesson for you.
Bro if u wanna get racist with it Mexicans not fuckn with the Israelites(brown Americans) jon jones still the king of mma til this day no other race have undefeated fights like ours yall got like 2 barely that
@KingVisanot more strikes on the ground. I just saw the whole fight. They were right, she lost rounds 2 and 3. She lost the fight by split decision. This is because she was relying too much on her boxing and made her vulnerable for the takedown at the end which ended in ground and pound.
@@amazingjimenez2291 most boxers don’t even get paid that much, it’s a very top heavy pay structure. That’s why boxing has less banging fights than MMA the best are scared to fight each other when they can get millions for fighting cans lmao. Boxing is trash asf now
@@rackembarry you’re talking about ufc not mma. Ufc is not mma. Mma fighters around the world make the same or less than boxers. The top boxers get paid more than mma fighters. Stop comparing boxing to one mma promotion
You can see toward that last take down she timed Clarissa, she knew she’d throw those hard jabs and she swooped in low to take her legs up. If Shields can only get better at her ground as well take downs she’ll be really good
When Claressa focuses on getting her legs out of the takedowns, she’s going to be more amazing than she already is. So many times I was like just “get your left leg under her right and roll her”, I was rooting for her so hard! Good fight though!
This defeat sits in Claressa's stomach and she cannot digest it. Those who constantly see themselves in the giant mirror will one day see that there is someone bigger than themselves.
I believe this loss will only benefit her.. she's gonna bounce back like the true champ she is at heart. Theres lessons in everything. Especially when we are down.. she'll correct her errors
Shields is doing great things athletically, but I think it's very hard for a volume striker to transition to mma tbh. Without the KO power, it's not threatening for a grappler to just close to distance. Then there's strikers like Izzy with length advantages who can use that to keep grapplers out. A fighter like Claressa Shields will have to learn grappling the long and hard way.
Also a few submissions she would have submitted her when they were up against the cage if she knew how her opponents are too comfortable wrestling her that would throw their game off
I like both ladies especially Abigail, THATS THAT MEXICAN HEART FOR YA! Clarissa got a bit too cocky, she needs ALOT to improve and I’m not even hating just a real observation. She is nowhere near ready to compete against a real mma fighter. She’s only got a punchers chance, but nothing else honestly. Hope to see her improve her ground game! Good luck to both ladies in their future bouts!
Loved these two ladies, don’t see why people say it’s a boring fight? Guarantee all those talking would COMPLETELY GAS OUT the first 30seconds of a little bit of grappling smh. 🤦🏽♀️ Respect the fighters and the sport. These ladies will improve and be real contenders soon, if they put their heart in to it! Good fight in my eyes!
The trick for montes was to let shields take the center of the octagon . Circle around shields and when shields starts to close in on her with montes's back to the cage explode for the take down with lots of room to push forward with momentum .
She got freaking robbed and idk why nobody is talking about it. The new scoring rules specifies that control means nothing, it's all about damage. And Shields made way more damages, she hitted hard, almost dropped Montes and has been very precise. Except the 3rd round (the last 30 seconds lmao), Montes did nothing but controling Shields without making damages, passing the guard, or attempting subs. Y'all watch a sport without understanding its rules.
Abigail, you are stil favourite in my books. A champ is only a champ when they can be respected. One's mannerism and behavior dictates how you carry yourself. The best is yet to be for you ♥️🌹
That’s why Alex Perierra and all the champions are strikers. Shields is a girl who never had wrestling experience. A girl. Some ppl learn faster than others. Crawford would beat pretty much everyone in ufc cuz he has great wrestling
@@mahadism7455 bad judging?🤣I saw shields on her back getting hit over and over again til the end and so did the judges, multiple takedowns and tons of leg kicks thrown on her.
She landed two punches in the first two rounds and only that many until the last minute of the third. She landed no meaningful leg kicks they were all weak. Yet she got rocked twice in 1 & 2, and hit very fast and hard in 1, 2 & 3. Montes won round 3, but that control meant nothing. Clarissa did more damage In those clinches.
I don't know what the commentators and the judges were seeing but it should have not been a split decision because Abigail Montess just straight out beat Alissa shields, Abigail just physically out fought shields.
The problem with boxers is that they are used to getting separated every time a clinch happens, so in a boxing match they often extend forward when punching, causing a clash with the opponent, and that's how Shields kept getting caught up in the clinch in this fight over and over. I was hoping she would win so it was frustrating to watch. If boxers want to have success in MMA, they really need to break this habit; otherwise they are just going to get stuck in clinches constantly.
Montes had some great takes & still managed to be on the mount for long controling shield from the top & that's wot contributed a lot for Shield's loss,,, Shield's technical team should give her more ground fights lessons,,,anyway much respect for shield,,,moving from boxing to MMA is something that most professional boxers hardly think of,,,much respect to her 🥋🔥
So because someone trains and knows how to use their whole body besides just boxing it's somehow looked down. Since when did just using hands represents a whole fight. Specially in a UFC fight where you are not just using 1 fighting method. You have more versatile people here. Anyways, you are an idiot to think that just because CS specializes in using her hands then a UFC fighter has to fight her with hands as well. More an idiot to downgrade someone who has more fighting methods/skills than just someone who can box.
Bad habits from Boxing - too much forward momentum - you will get grabbed and taken down. You just need to place some of those punches don’t rush it. Be patient.
I am not a Shields fan but credit to her for trying mma and taking a live opponent. She just mis-judged ever so slightly about where her mma skills were up to. She was matched pretty well to test out her progression but it was just a little too much for her to get the win. It will be interesting to see what level her next opponent is and how long it will be before Claressa tries to take on a world class mma fighter. Personally, I don't think she can compete with the top girls in the next year and probably in the next 2 years but with her confidence she will probably move to fast and try. I think she better take about 2 years before she even thinks about fighting someone like Kayla Harrison if she doesn't want to get slammed and beat up.
"beat down?" LOL. She "won" the last two rounds and still only won by one point. How was that a "beat down?" You Latinos so desperately want to cheer for your flag. Most of you still mad that Mayweather is the Mexicutioner.
So let me get this straight… Shields, percentage wise, through less strikes and connected at a higher rate than her opposition did while her opponent hugged her majority of the fight and only let her hands loose in the closing seconds from a mounted position while still swinging and MISSING in the process… and she wins⁉️🧐🤔🤦🏾♂️‼️ This is one time that I can say that an actual boxing match would’ve at least had striking and been more of a fight than what what I just witnessed. Shame on you MMA. J/s 🤷🏾♂️
yea i had claressa 2-0 going into the third rewatched round 2 and i dont see it. they said it was the take downs but claressa had one too. then to mention the accuracy...idk im lost
@@skandol8650 they forget it's a.fight first, sport second. Taking someone down but not hitting them once results in absolutely nothing... You get no points unless you hit them in the face
Montez won yes, but honestly man it was under technicality every MMA fighter knows that when someone is coming from a different sport just take them to the ground and lay on them and you will win that's the only reason I don't usually watch these types of fights a great fighter just got a loss on here MMA record for ground control (someone laying on top of you the full round) smh it was a good fight though and Montez did win but just unfortunate there couldn't have been more standing action which makes for a much more exciting fight but I get it its not smart for her to fight Claressa standing up
Go GWOAT Clarissa!! I’m so proud of you!!!!!! Your a true Champ!! No one has done or accomplished what you have this far! Setting a totally different and New Style in Womens history!! And I’m here for you!! Go Girl this only her second MMA fight!! And she did a Great Job🏆
@@franciscoxj8903 I'm not her, you said that to me like I was supposed to care if she lost or won. You clearly have mental issues and I hope whatever you are dealing with in life that you get past it and grow up.
Montes didn't do any effective offence. Imagine having a real street fight, you take the guy down, then land non meaningful shots for 3 minutes. Would you class that a win?
The Boos from the crowd say it all. Talented, quick, and tenacious fighter in Clarissa, shes going to go to hights than a fighter like Montes who can only use their weight to lie on you, wont reach soon Bright future to you girl 🤞

Lol didn't Clarence say he would never lose to a mexican?😂 He also claims he can beat a man😂 just cause you look like a man don't mean you can fight like one Clarence.
She cautious at first but she ate Clarissa's straight clean right and that gave her confidence knowing she could take Clarissa's hardest punch . Montes got more aggressive after that .
She literally didn’t get her ass her bear though. Shields was beating Montes ass, montes didn’t do shit but grapple and even then she wasn’t able to do shit to shields, man shields that girl in there leaking bruh. 😂 Monte’s got a luck 1 point split decision based off the last 30 seconds of the fight, where she barely even landed a clean punch on shields from the top mount.
@@Hucho400 Yeah right! That is why Sheilds won and that is why she can beat men just because she says so. The delusion never ends. Shields got her ass beat.
Black people were outraged when Paulie Malignaggi said eastern Europeans were better fighters and made him lose his job but they are all smiles when Hopkins,Haney,Dirrell and Shields say racist remarks.Double standards
It's gonna be very difficult for her to keep doing both sports (Boxing & MMA). The stances are totally different from footwork to how you hold your hands. Good luck to her though, her success will only benefit WMMA.
All this praise of Claressa. The fight wasn't even close after the first round. Montes gave her a beat down. But still, all this praise for the princess.
Shields landed a flury of punches in round 1. She also landed a hard punch in round 2. Montes didn't land anything as significant in those 2 rounds. I gave Shields round 1 and Montes round 2. However, I could see how a judge could have given Shields round 2 because of the big right hand.
@@ryannath85 Can you watch that flurry of punches in slow motion, please? How many of those actually land on the head/face??? And Montes did land some lowkicks. Most of the time, in modern MMA, those initial lowkicks determine what is gonna happen for the rest of the fight; because they disrupt the opponent's rhythm, composure, stance, movement, gameplan, and overall attacks. That's why even in the boxing exchanges, Shields did nothing to Montes; but if it was a boxing fight, where no lowkicks allowed or takedowns, Claressa would've knocked Montes out in the first 2 minutes. Claressa was outclassed here, even though she looked very improved compared to her debut
@@ryannath85 Montes was off balance but she wasn't even hit in the face, but the judges thought she was rocked, so they gave that round to Claressa. This was a close and competitive fight, but it was a clear 30-27 for Montes. Those judges in PFL have no clue what they're looking at anyways, most decisions are really suspect
Everyone talking about Shields but Montes deserves some respect! Shields is clearly a better athlete and actually more experienced in pure combat with years of amateur/pro boxing while Montes came in with only two pro fights and beat her, just shows the power of grappling against a better boxer/athlete.
But it’s called the sweet science in boxing and you enjoy all of that holding they do? Who wants to stand there and get hit. Sound familiar? Keep the same energy here
I can NOT stand Claressa Shields , that does not negate the massive amounts of respect i have for her skills as a fighter . Damn even from her back she's stiill fighting ... 100% respect true warrior .
