You can see how absolutely proud Phil is of Vivian and her playing. He just can't stop smiling!!

This is the best rendition on fiddle of this great tune that I've ever heard, with exquisite accompaniment all around.

That is some great footage of our close family friends, Vivan, Phil, Barney, and Sue. It is with great heartache to hear of Phil's passing. He was Vivan's musical soul mate. Rest in peace Phil, your traditional music will live on.

Vivian is one of the all time heroes in old time music. She's still playing beautiful music today along with her husband, Phil, who can play just about anything!

A esto solo le falta el canto a la tirolesa. Brutal pickin de violín y banjo. Enhorabuena

Bravo Vivian. I have always thought that polka as a Czech dance can only be played in a wind-instruments version, or in a symphonic version. But the country music performance of the polka as in this case is very successful ! Greeting from CZ.

I had the incredible good fortune to hear them (as the Turkey Pluckers) in the living-room of my boarding house on Corbett St. in Portland, in the winter of 1964. Talk about "National Treasures"..! ^..^

In French Canada (Québec and Acadia), it goes by the name of 'La Polka de Caraquet'. It was part of Paul Cormier's répertoire (a.k.a Mr Pointu). Very well played, in deed.

This tune was first published in America in 1940, crediting composers Jan Dvoraky and Laurence Paul, although it may be based on an older traditional Polish tune. You can order sheet music for this version of it from the Voyager Recordings website listed at the top of this page, in the "Repertoire Builder Series" No. 110, couple dances.

@Suprasylph Yes, you're right, the older tune that the 1940's publication was based on is Austrian. There's a great version of on RU-vid - search for Klarinett Polka Hupfata for a great version of it played by a brass band, plus some more information about the tune.

I'm pretty sure a clarinet is absolutely unnecessary for a Clarinet Polka so the clarinetists should do a Banjo or Violin or Accordion Polka etc. but I don't think they could pull off a Double Bass Polka

poor bass player needs to learn the harmonies. oooppps!!! one stanza he consistantly plays the wrong harmonies...very distracting
@princeharming8963
@princeharming8963 5 лет назад
Harmony isn't really what the bass player does. It's job is to hold timing and nail down the low notes.
