That's not the case with these 2. They start off together in the beginning. Throughout the show they are in committed and sexually intimate relationships with several other people. By the end of the show, they're just each others' safety net. When they were first together, lost their virginity to each other, that was genuine commitment. At around season 7 I was hoping she'd get sent to another dimension or something. LOL.

I don't care about the lore either, but just based on the characters personalities, it's clear Lois is a better match for who Clark becomes. Lana is who he needed to help become a man, Lois is who he needed once he became that man.

Clark was the one that broke up with her (to protect her and his secret). Yet he still clearly has feelings for her. So I think it's frustration over the situation, and how they should be together, but she can't understand why he resists it. This puts her in a difficult place, where she can't move on and she can't be with him either.

She witnessed her parents death. Her adoptive guardian(aunt Nell) moves away and leaves Lana in Smallville. Her Highschool boyfriend dies in war. Then she finds out that her dad wasn't her real dad. When she finds her biological father, thinking she won't be alone anymore, he also leaves her to save his marriage. On top of that Clark and her are deeply in love, but Clark hides he's feelings and who he really is from her. Clark asks her out, but kisses Chloe. Clark pushes her away or breaks things off with her and runs away from. So why should she be happy?
