To Claroos: in the comics, when Morpheus is getting revenge on Alex, he specifically says that the Endless experience time the same way humans do. So if it's been 105 years for Morpheus, it's been 105 years in the Dreaming without him. And Nerdy, that's all Tom's voice. In an interview with Tom and Niel, they said the first day on set, Niel had to tell him "stop talking like Batman" because he started with a deep whisper 😂

Gotta say, this series turned out to be A LOT better than i expected. I'm 5 episodes in and really captivated! I wish all adaptations could have this level of quality and adaptation accuracy at the same time.

Glad I'm not the only person who was left sobbing after Gregory😭 The changes they've made are great, dishing out shocks to everyone who read the comic without breaking the characters. I love it!

I honestly think distancing (at least this version of) Sandman from the DC universe is a good idea. It allows the story to stand on its own, and I feel Sandman works best in a world that mirrors the one we live in.

Him taking Gregory has so much more emotional weight than him just absorbing the castle. I know this was your idea Neil. You made me cry!

This show rules! This is a perfect comic adaptation. While changing things to suit contemporary requirements it is still pretty accurate to the comics.

I really liked Dream collecting the items to summon the Kindly Ones as well, that’s one of those things that are so much better for film than on the page. Done correctly this show should always feel different from episode to episode because the comic is different from issue to issue.

Did the show emotionally manipulate me into crying about a fake dragon that I only saw on screen for a few minutes? yes but not mad about it

Ethel Dee nee Cripps was Roderick Burgess' lover in the comic - she and another lover stole the ruby and the helm from Roderick before fleeing to America, trading the helm for the amulet of protection. The change was the answers that the Fates gave, directing Dream to Ethel and John Dee instead of sending him to the Justice League, who are keeping the ruby in a storehouse. I would have loved to see Mr. Miricle and Martian Manhunter, but I can understand why those characters were cut out.

So... I've never read the comics and I listened to maybe the first hour of the audio book, I basically went into this show completely blind and completely fell in love with it, the characters, the story, everything. And to see someone who has actually read the comics and is a fan react to this show in the way you have has been a real joy. I've read and heard this is one of the best comic book to tv adaptions yet.

Claroos was actually right with the time comment. They do experience time differently. It was eons for them. A long long time, while at the same time knowing it's a century.

I was a huge fan of the comics when they came out (yes, I’m old) and it’s kind of amazing how much more affecting the scene with Gregory is than the comics. On one level, it’s a CGI construct that we see on screen for like 10 seconds total and has utterly no lines. And on another level, it’s watching a close friend die. It could have been such a throwaway scene - in the comics, it is a throwaway scene, insofar as Gaiman writes throwaway scenes (which isn’t much). But in the series, it’s a huge gut-punch. It also says something that by far the two most affecting death scenes we’ve had so far have both been dreams (Jessamee and Gregory).

“As long as it’s not Dragons. Or Gargoyles. If people die, whatever.” Yup, that’s the sort of person you want with you in the Dreaming!

On the subject of Sandman's voice; Tom Sturridge portrayed Henry the VI in the titular episode of a TV series of Shakespeare adaptations called "The Hollow Crown" and that is his real voice.

In the first issue of the comic when he gets out of his prison, Dream tells Alex Burgess that the Endless experience time exactly the same way humans do. So he literally sat in that sphere saying nothing for 80 (or 100) years. I also thought episode 2 didn’t feel like much happened, and in general the show’s pacing is unusual. I could imagine it feeling slow for someone who hasn’t read the comics, but I also think it’s a nice change from most tv shows which are usually structured in very similar ways. And I agree about Lucienne, the dynamic between her and Dream is a lot clearer than in the comic and really entertaining to watch.

I've been waiting for this, watched them all yesterday. Did u see the clip of Neil Gaiman talk about I can't remember his name so I'm gonna go with "Morpheus" voice? It's worth a watch, pretty funny.

It hurts so sweetly. They made you love Gregory so much, and then they take him away so well.

I'm told that DC had this old horror/mystery comic series where this Cain and Abel were narrators. They would tell you one story an issue and at the end Cain would always kill Abel somehow. I understand that Neil Gaiman added them to the early issues of Sandman much later as a sort homage or something. Pay attention to how they welcome Dream and guess what the title(s) of the comic was. FYI. I'm also told that the Sandman cover designer came out of retirement just to design the end credits of this show.

This is Tom's voice! in interviews, his voice and laugh is a bit higher than the deep tones of Morpheus.

I've read all of Sandman and my BF has seen nothing about this until I turned on the episode today. It was enthralling. We were so upset when we had to go to bed after 5 episodes straight 🤣 Bloody work.

Goldie plays a more significant part in _The Dreaming_ - a series related to The Sandman. I like how the end credit animation is unique and tied to each episode.

I need to finally say it. This is how I wish wheel of time hit. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the wheel of time adaptation. But it didn’t hit like this is for Sandman fans.

Ethel is still connected to Burgess in the comics, but John is her son via someone else. So he still got the Ruby from her but he more obviously alters it to become his comic book villain persona.

agreed on the needle-threading. They did a phenomenal job, and they did a great job updating it to be relevant/compelling to the present, and in casting to the role, rather than the appearance. I never expected it to be good, and I love just about every change they've made. I NEVER expected THAT.

One of the things I loved doing, was reading the sandman with voices, like doing my own. Sandbag sounds exactly what I thought he would sound like, and I'm flabbergasted.

The Corinthian's mannerisms and look reminds me so much of Bruce Willis in "The Jackal" . just that cold, methodical way in everything. Plus the hair and glasses which Bruce Willis' "Jackal" uses in the last half of the movie.

Ethyl was always connected to the Burgess family in the comics. Her reason wasn't because Roderick was insisting that she have an abortion, it was that the second-in-command of the order basically ran off with a load of money, artifacts, and the Magus' mistress, Ethyl. He's the one that traded the helm for protection against the Magus' magical retribution, and eventually, Ethyl stole _his_ belongings. So, the chain of 'ownership' is consistent between the show and the comics, at least. Interestingly the Cain and Able who live in the Houses of Secrets and Mysteries with Gregory and Goldie are, themselves, DC comics characters. Just... obscure enough of ones, and so closely tied in with the Sandman comics that they weren't really able to be extricated from the show. Unlike Martian Manhunter and the demon Etrigan, they just don't tonally clash with the Sandman universe, they're that well integrated.

Technically, Gregory isn't a gargoyle. He's a grotesque. Gargoyles are what they would call the spouts coming out of the roof tops. In the olden days, they would decorate the spouts as a grotesque ( demon like creatures), so it's a common misconception that the demon / dragon creatures are gargoyles.

I knew I loved you guys for more than wheel of time.. as a former comicbook artist.. Neil Gaiman's Sandman was uniquely original and I am here for this new way of telling the story of Dream !

When I read Sandman, my library had these MASSIVE volumes with them.

Justice for Gregory! But really, what a great episode, considering how short it was. I can't wait to watch the rest of the season reactions.

My only inkling of the Sandman comics was after going down a rabbithole following the Lucifer show (which I also love even though it's quite its own thing, separate from its inspiration). Virtually zero knowledge beyond some images I barely remember, and its title. And... I *ADORE* this show. Absolutely LOVE it. One of my tops now and favorites and fantastic storytelling, though I suppose that only makes sense for something so focused on dreams ;] I have since been down a new rabbithole for the Sandman comics, and learned a lot that's amazing, and a lot that's made me very sad. Regardless, incredible show from a non-comic reader who went in blind. Episode 6 is hands down my favorite.

Such good writing and acting and directing. To make you feel sooo sad for a cgi character after only knowing it for like 5 mins. It takes real artistry to pull those genuine emotions out like that Yes I cried. 😛

Those women reminded me of those three women from Hercules but they're in all the books about each movie cause they can see everything and you ask them questions about the future abd stuff and they cut the string to end people lives but in the nooks I think they Saud they're the ones that made each villian turn into the villian they were. They were working behind the scenes to make everything happen lol

the ruby followed the same path in the comics. Ethel was Roderick's wife or lover or something, and she robbed him and left, just like in the show, and she gave the ruby to John. the only difference there is they omitted the references to the Justice League in the show

When I listened to the audio books, I was hoping that there would be a reference to Elvira, Mistress of Darkness, living in The House of Mystery during the DC comics run ... until Cain threw her out.

I think the sacrifice of Greggory was also done IMO to emphasize the otherness and power of Morpheus.

Actually John Dee is a DC Character He was Called Doctor Destiny and a Foe of the Justice League Dark and Morpheus.

The justice league stuff always took me out of the story. I don't miss it.

Honestly what I loved with Gregory moment was the fact.. Idk maybe I'm reaching but I felt that it actually really Hurt Morpheus to have to do that. I've noticed that, the lead does A LOT of acting heavy lifting. 2 episodes with 2 animal deaths ( kinda). The animal death isn't what gets me. THE thing that hurts me is how painful those felt for the lead. I mean lets be real Jessamy was just a bird. A clever bird but just a bird. However the look from Dream when she splatted in front of his face & right after. Dear God did that resonate agony

Did someone else felt that episode 5 was 4 hours long and not 45 minutes? Eipsode 1-4 were awesome, but I would rather watch a snail crossing a four-lane highway than watch episode 5 again.
