Class 1 (Cat C+E) Reversing Exercise. Drivers POV. EASY!

Started at my class 1 today practicing my revering, your clip gives a better instruction than my instructor 100%, You would make a great instructor. I have watched all your instruction videos from class 2 onto C+E and they have helped me out tremendously. thank you for that Deady2012

I remember on my test I fooked up a bit that I couldn’t see da cones on my near side reversing into da yellow box and thought I had hit them.I stopped da truck heads in hand thinking I ‘d hit them and that I’ll fail da test.At that point thought fuck it failed now carried on reversing and thankfully as it turned out hadn’t hit da cones and ended up going on to passing.

I failed my first attempt at the reversing manoeuvre yesterday, but ive passed the second attempt today! Your video was really helpful and made me realise where I had gone wrong in the the first attempt, and I wish I'd of seen your videos earlier. Cheer mate 👍🏻👍🏻

Hey Deady. THANKS for this video. I know you posted it a while ago but I only just started following you. Seeing the reverse from the drivers point of view was really useful. Any other videos i found are from outside the cab and aren't that informative. I'm looking at doing my class 1 this year or maybe next depending on lockdown... and reversing the trailer was my biggest anxiety but this has help massively. The way you explained it was great! Should think about becoming an instructor mate. 👌 keep on Truckin

I did that for the first time today and although all three times would have been a pass, (had to shunt on one of them) I still felt like I was all over. It takes some getting used too. Thanks for your videos man, I’ve leaned a lot from them.

Really handy Deady. Was a total Newbee as from November. Passed my Class 2 a couple of weeks ago at Red Rose with Bill. Got my Class 1 coming up in March. Thankfully, I've been offered my first driving job at the airport driving a fuel tanker. (ADR licence from Red Rose) A years contract . Looking forward to giving Class 1 a shot. Thanks for the Vids!

I had my class 1 module 3a training and test a couple days ago. There was 3 of us and had to share 1 truck and trailer. Was a full day 7am-4pm. Started at 7 and Spent around 2 hours taking turns to uncouple and couple the trailer. Had a break and then did the reverse from 10.15am~3pm. We was taking 1 turn each to do the reversing manoeuvre and by 1.30pm all 3 of us could not do it. I took another go took it nice and slow and just thought about what I was doing and was able to do it all by myself with no help. Then did a couple uncouple again each and as assessor was running late we took another go at reversing each. Again I was only 1 out the 3 of us to do it. Other 2 guys never completed the reverse without support and I allowed them 2 to just carry on taking turns as I had learnt how to do it. Assessor turned up around 3pm and my name came up first for the reverse manoeuvre. Start of with the reverse doing well was close to b cone but able to complete task with no shunts and in the box first time. I knew I did it as assessor then asked to do it uncoupling. Nearly messed up as was about to pull out clip on kingpin but remembered it’s BLACK so saved myself. Again did it all and passed. I think the other 2 guys were a little hopeful as they had just watched me pass with ease. Assessor and instructor both congratulated me and told next guy to start the test. Was about to leave but as I knew the other 2 guys I was doing training with was nervous I didn’t want to distract them so waited for them to complete before driving out the car park. Next guy was doing well but shunted twice. Kept putting himself in front of b cone and wanted to shunt for a 3rd time. Assessor then told him he can’t as he’s already done it twice. I knew he failed as truck was parked in middle of test area and not in the coned area. As I was leaving the guy did come over and tell me he failed and was informed to book further training. 3rd guy who was part of the training was the most nervous and would point out as many things he could think of as why he couldn’t do it right. Complained about seat, other people practising in the same area, wanted 1-1 training and anything else he could think off. Never seen him do his test but based of his practise tries I would assume he failed. As in training he had to Abandon the truck multiple times to allow instructor to reset truck as he would end up off training area and out the yellow lines. Even the instructor had given up on him and just told the 2nd guy to practise more as he thought he had more of a chance to pass. I tried to help them both but they didn’t seem to take on board any information the instructor and I gave them. I did think the 2nd guy might actually pass but once I seen him fail I knew the 3rd guy no hope as he hadn’t once completed the reverse on his own and tbf even the 2nd guy didnt

Great stuff, thanks Mr D. I passed my C Test today, so onto the C+E ASAP! I started in March this year but C19 shut tests down just b4 mine! So it feels like an age has passed since I started! But it feels like it's all worth it now I've passed, so as you say... Happy Days :-)

Mate . I can't tell you how much this has helped. I have my class 1 test tomorrow and am bricking it over the reverse. Just the opposite steering has got me confused. But I love the way you described it, showed it and talked about calming our nerves. Big help thank you. I'll let you know how I get on!

you should consider being a trainer , learnt more off this video than i have off a trainer i had practicing for my 3a reversing, i have my test next week, and feel confident that i'll be able to get the reversing out the way sharpish using this practical demonstration.

got my reverse test tomorrow morning, I am being told to chase the yellow line and not put full opposite lock on straight away. got more training today but I am really struggling to reverse in a straight line. I have been driving a car for over 20 years but this trailer stuff is completely alien to me and not confident in the slightest although driving around town isn't a problem as I am more than happy driving forwards it's just the backwards bit I am having serious issues with and it's giving me a complex. fingers crossed it goes well tomorrow :/

Nice. My concern with reversing is the length. Not maneuvering it but knowing when to stop before you hit the barrier. I've seen things about looking for a reference point on your lorry to get to another reference point and then you knownto stop but I'll have to wait till I start training to see what happens

Hi! I have failed my first HGV class 2 test because I have been practicing with my instructor and we used some pieces of wood as yellow box you are supposed to stop in in the reversing exercise, not mentioning the cones where not properly aligned and he told me to place the marker on the mud guard on the first black line before the box and that will be ok. The marker on the weel didn’t match at all within the real test so I wasn’t able to stop in the box with just 10 cm or so and I failed and felt like a stupid . I can drive and reverse but .. How do you from experience know where to place that marker on the back of the mud guard so you know you are parked in the right spot without hitting the barriers and also if you are allowed to use the camera as the man switch it of for me before going in to the test centre. Hi, mate I'm going to start the process for class in next couple of weeks but thinking of doing class 1 straight after as a double course. What do you think am I best doing just the class 2 and do the class 1 at a later date?

I remember the first time I turned up at an RDC to tip a trailer and said to the shunter, where are the A cones? What do I line my bit of tape up with. He just shook his head and scooted off across the yard in his Terberg.

I have just start my class 1 training today. I was surprised when I arrive at the yard and found out my training and test will be in a wagon and drag and not an artic. I have found driving forward is no problem so far but I am struggling with the reversing as the 5 wheel is in the middle. Have you or anyone else drove a wagon and drag and does anyone have any tips for reversing a WnD?

I passed 2nd time on my class 1. My first time was a nightmare. I could not reverse the fucking thing. I literally failed as soon as I started to reverse from the front cones. I took 3 shunts in order to line up with the front starting cones. The examiner just told me that I have failed my test. He didn't even take me out for a drive for what I have already paid. I think the examiner thought that if I cant reverse how would I drive on the main road. I was not ready for my test that day. I took more lessons and i passed second time.

Was it all done in an automatic class 1? Trying to choose hgv company in same area. Thanks

For what it’s worth, here’s my reversing tip. You already know that the space you’re reversing into is wide enough, so you only have to use the driver mirror and not swivel your head from side to side using both mirrors. WATCH THE REAR END OF YOUR TRAILER in your mirror because where your rear is going, that’s where you’re going. Once you line up your rear wheels, it’s simply a matter of straightening up.

The use of crawler gear for too long in areverse will damage the clutch resulting in failure ..
