It is possible that their violence towards Doug is caused by a desire to continue to protect their riches from those they believe will steal it. Going by the theory suggesting that each nightmare portal is tied to one of Dante Alighieri's Nine Layers of Hell and the monsters inside them are manifestations of sin, the Gold Watchers may represent Greed, since they were people who pursued wealth and fortune to the exclusion of all else, so much that in the afterlife they sacrificed their humanity to a demonic smelter only leaving the hollow gold shell as a statue while their souls burn eternally in the wealth they coveted. Despite the fact that they wear predominantly periwinkle grey uniforms in the normal look and dark slate ones in their Nightmare mode, their plushies, cardboard cutouts in Crazy Carnevil and most of their promotional material portrays them with a dark blue uniform. It's not uncommon for a number of people mistaking them as pirates initially at first glance, even though they're supposed to be wealthy 18th-century aristocrats. This is likely because of the tricorne hats they wear. Like other monsters in the game, the Gold Watchers are voiced by a professional actor, named Christopher Corey Smith, who also voices Malak, the Clown Gremlins, the Goliath Clowns, and the protagonist, Doug Houser. Their behavior is based on that of the Boo from the Mario games, only moving when the player is looking away. However, they are much faster than the average Boo. All the Gold Watchers were originally made of stone in 2014. In the exterior maze of the Manor, there are Watchers made of stone, but those ones don't move except for one who appears above the portal while escaping, and one who appears in the front of the gate to the Hedge maze who is never seen again. One of the secrets in the manor reveals that the ring is being used to create the Gold Watchers. They likely all represent automatonophobia, the fear of humanoids and/or animatronics/robots, a trait shared with , Lucky, Hangry, Penny, and theMannequins They may also represent scopophobia, the fear of being watched, stared at, or followed. They may also possibly represent aurophobia, the fear of gold, evidenced by the color of their appearance, their mansion entirely made of gold, their name, and the fact it has been theorized that the Gold Watchers themselves the player's greed, as shown by several plaques scattered throughout the walls of the manor. This is possibly confirmed with the note suggesting that they're souls of people who are greedy in life and that the sheer amount of gold throughout the manor reminds the author of the story of King Midas, which is about a king who has the ability to turn everything into gold by touch. Alternatively, still, they could represent plutophobia, the fear of the rich and powerful. The fact that they refer to the protagonist as a "peasant" could indicate the protagonist might be impoverished, and perhaps grew to fear and envy the wealthy because of it. Their axes seem to materialize out of nowhere, as the Gold Watchers can be seen without them being wielded. Like most game enemies who move when not looked at, the Gold Watchers simply slide instead of actually walking or running. Despite being faster than the speed boost power and being the fastest enemies in the game until now, Gold Watchers cannot use all their speed to chase Doug, as their speed decreases more and more as they get close to the player. A larger version of the Watchers, made of stone, can be found behind the wall where the portal is. This statue is the same one behind the "Beyond these gates, Judgement awaits" plaque, though this one appears more worn down. The giant stone Watcher resembles the Titan Watcher in Monsters and Mortals, albeit the latter appears to be much more taller and gigantic in comparison. When they are in Nightmare mode, their skin will glow turquoise in dark rooms. In "Crazy Carnevil," the Gold Watchers appear as cutouts among the audience in the circus, along with numerous Murder Monkey, Agatha, and Clown Gremlin cutouts. The Gold Watchers also make an appearance in the level as plush toys found in the Funhouse. Their appearance may have been inspired by many different 18th-century gentleman statues from the colonial ages made out of gold. In "Torment Therapy", the player can see several Gold Watchers sipping on tea at the entrance of the hospital. These Gold Watchers do not attack the player, however. This makes "Torment Therapy" the second level to feature physical appearances of other enemies from the previous nightmares, with the first being "Crazy Carnevil". When Malak kills Doug, he can be heard saying "Come here!". Malak's voice actor, Christopher Corey Smith, also voices the Gold Watchers, Clown Gremlins, and Goliath Clowns. Originally, Malak was meant to have a slit eye when on the door. This can be seen in the 2015 Alpha demo, though his eye doesn't move to look at Doug. However, since Malak can move freely, shape-shift, and perform various abilities like teleportation while in the nightmares, one may assume those nightmares are indeed a part of hell, in which Malak can fully unleash his demonic capabilities. Malak may represent Daemonophobia (fear of demons). One may assume that he may even represent Satan. However, as Malak is not a subject of Doug's nightmares, this is probably false. Each one is driven to kill anyone that might enter and steal their lord's precious treasures. E, DESCRIBING WHAT THE GREEDY SOULS IN THIS NIGHTMARISH WORLD HAVE BECOME. Not much of his personality is known, other than that he is insane and gleefully sadistic like the Gold Watchers. It is likely he is more extreme like other boss enemies (Except Agatha) to their counterparts. He also appears to be very erratic as they will constantly lob axes in no logical destination. If I get to play a elder scrolls games series video game I would definitely role playing a character like the the gold watcher plus the murder monkeys and gold watcher look fancy I would loved a opportunity to dress like them without of course hurting anyone and without staining them with blood of course still imagine how they’ll look without blood stains and all just plain awesome I always loved dressing to the nine as much as possible whenever I get the chance it’s would be awesome clearly Everyone in hell do have good taste in fashion i would loved if you informed them of that.
