Todays Northern belle from Coventry to Appleby with EE Class 40 D345 in charge making a Growling sound that could be heard from a fair distance away, even the Birds were singing . Tangmere still unavailable so D345 with 57313 Scarborough Castle bringing up the rear, Filmed at Woodhouse and Ribblehead, for some reason it 'STOPPED' at the Station for a few seconds, but the set off, 'WOW' ENJOY . 👍

Steve, great video ! The loco looked magnificent especially slowing over the viaduct. It was very pleasing to see that the first coach was an original Metro Cam 1960 Pullman and not a pseudo one. The loco’s original train set was the Queen of Scots Pullman in 1961 (until the Deltics took over in ‘62) The power unit is the one installed in 1983, so doing very well.

A lovely record of the day Steve, particularly that growl and tones on departure from Ribblehead.

Some great footage there. Grew up with Class 40s on the WCML. Plus they were always the tool of choice by BR when I was travelling to Uni in Bangor on the Holyhead line. A wonderful sight and sound. I'm out of touch with the rail scene. A lot of charters with preserved locos seem to use loco at either end. Is that a reliability back up, or ease of shunting etc when they reach their destination?

thanks very much for your comment, i believe the enginge in this loco is the original, and both true backup and shunting, also extra power if needed, but more use of deisels behind steam these days for backup, heating lights, cheers .

Yes that’s right, if you used a steam loco for heat it would take valuable heat away from the steam.

It is wonderful, and congratulations to all involved, that this vintage machine is kept alive and active on the main line. Loved the whistling off ribblehead. That said, when it comes to vintage machines, I prefer the Brush.
