The Direct rail services class 68s are now the dominant motive power on the Cumbrian Coast and Furness lines railroutes. Proving their mixed traffic credentials on a variety of Nuclear, S.C.O, Passenger and Railtour workings with the odd Barrow ABP to Drigg stone working and light engine moves. This only leaves the other Cumbrian Coast loco hauled set with a class 37/4 in charge and the occasional appearance of the new Class 88 hybrids
In April 2018 we see members of the class at Askam, Lindal, Sowerby Lodge, Thwaites Flats, Pennington, Dunnerholme, Oak Lee Road, Park South, Ravenglass, on a trip inland we see a 68 on the Settle and Carlisle at Armathwaite on a Carlisle-Crewe Basford Hall trip and culminating with top and tailed 68s on a NENTA railtour at Kirkby in Furness.

Great footage! Are they eventually making the pilot cars compatible to the class 68?

Hi Frank. No, the plan for the future passenger use, like the TPE services we are going to support, the 68s will be used with the new Mk V coaches being built by CAF now. The Cumbrian Coast service is scheduled to end this September although there are talks of an extension as Northern's new Units are behind schedule. The 68s have only been deployed on the Coast line because of the reliability problems we have had with the Class 37/4s despite the huge amount of money we have invested in them.. Kev

Thx for the info. I'll guess class 37 will start to move to the heritage railways.
