My interpretation of D1200 Falcon.
GBRf release 69012 as “Falcon” in two tone green with a replication of her later 1968 livery as allocated to Bristol Bath Road.
The original “Falcon” D1200 arguably the most successful and last of the BR prototype diesels locomotives was 2880hp with two V12 Maybach MD655. Built by Brush Loughborough 1961 and used on the Eastern and then Western Region of BR. The loco was so successful it was purchased by BR in 1970, overhauled at Swindon, air braked as class 53 and ran until late 1975 when it was withdrawn and scrapped in 1976. With advances in engine technology in 1962 Brush also developed the class 47 with a single Sulzer 2750hp and that got the orders for 512 locomotives and Falcon remained the only example. It proved a very good demonstrator against the class 52 Westerns with similar engines but Hydraulic Transmission. It was a fantastic performer and put in some excellent runs on it’s regular Paddington - Bristol runs.
I has replaced the Brush makers plates with Bristol Bath Road Shed plates and tried as much as possible to replicate the original two tone green livery complete with “Falcon 2” name and motif.
GBRf are grateful to Arlington Fleet Services who's paint team have done a fantastic job in finishing this locomotive for us.
On 12th July 2024 we collected 69012 from Eastleigh to Tonbridge West Yard.
Hope you like it. Copyright and all rights reserved Bob Tiller 12th July 2024.

WOW, what an appreciation of 'diesel heritage' all the way fron the loco build itself, recognition of the Brush prototype and the original livery. GB railfreight deserves every success with this attention to detail and 'going the extra mile' beyond simply entering a loco to traffic.

Nice job Rob, was not keen on the Western Impersonator though lol . Falcon was stored in Newport for years as you know and cut up. That would have been a massive draw. You are keeping the rail enthusiasts happy . Has there been any teething problems with the 69 's ?

How about the all white lion and the yellow kestrel for two more 69s? The one I couldn't understand was the red western livery?

The red one is painted and named after our managing directors favourite ‘Western’

Just to be very picky over the much appreciated comments on the original Falcon , the reference to advances in engine technology. The basic engine later used in the 47s already existed, as the 12 cylinder Sulzer, in the class 44 , 45 and 46. It was not a new engine only upgraded intercooling AND the output was later downgraded to closer to the original class 45 output. In a different world Falcon COULD have been built with the Sulzer engine , in which case it would probably have been the class leader of a 500 unit build, rather than the basis of Brush's class 47 design. ( and, yes, references to class 44 45 and 47 are to the later designations, not those the locos were built with)

I was allowed in the Yard when I was on a school trip! We were allowed to get up close to 66306 & 66794! 😄
