Big congrats on passing! Took me 3 times purely down to nerves, I've never been good at any sort of test. My instructor was getting really annoyed with me, as he knew I was perfectly capable of passing, but on the day I just did stupid things.
The Hairy Trucker Thanks mate, I too was very nervous hence the shunt i took doing the reverse exercise, i did that exercise 10 times without a problem but i lost site of the B post and couldn't afford to fail so i took a shunt...6 minors but to be honest i would have been happy with 14 as long as i passed (the whole re-test costs money). How long have you been on the road?
My first test, I failed within the first 10 mins as I hit the post of the reverse. What was even more annoying is it was my best manouvre and we didn't practice it in the 2 hours before the test as I was so good at it.. Just sheer stupidity and nerves ruined it. Apart from that hit, I got 4 minors for the rest of the test, which was rather annoying! I passed the cat c in 2006, but had 3 years on a 3.5t van before that reversing into some very tight places!
Well done on passing your test and I hope you're able to get on the road very soon. Hats off to you for making the big step from leaving the job you know to try something new.
Well done mate !! just passed mine today !! out ov army (1 leg afgan no dramz) real buzzing like yourself !! but got my class1 1 in 4 weeks any tips ?..
Well done on passing your test..if I was you I'd do some class 2 work while your on with the class 1 test. It will make it easier with having some driving experience getting work on class one once you've passed. there is lots of jobs for class2 and class1 but pls be careful with agency's advertising for drivers saying they have good work just to get you to sign up with them. I'm not being negative some are good but alot aren't I'm speaking from experience good luck mate.
daz smith Thanks Daz, i`m going to have a proper look round at the agencies and check out a bit of feedback on them. I may even try to get in with a company and maybe they will get me up to C+E even if i get tied in to a contract it will mean i will get a couple of years of experience and with a bit of luck a few more doors will open for me. Thanks for the heads up.
was glad to hear you was nervous as you look like a calm guy and kind of good to see i wont be the only one , i start my training on Tuesday then have a weekend break then test day, i fear my nerves will get in the way on the day, hopefully not!!
That weekend break is good in your training as it gives you time for everything to absorb ready for a fresh start on the Monday...good luck and let me know how you get on.
+fastasfox I've been roofing for 16 years 8 of them been a sole trader working for myself running my little business , last few years really fell out of love with the job and decided to go down the hgv route
Mrshane2010 I will try but as my wife is at college at the moment we don`t have a lot of extra income to play with. I have £600 set aside towards the training so i have two options either do extra chef work or a bit of class c driving and save. Thanks for your test advice, i told my instructor about your nob off saying he laughed and said he would use it. Your words were ringing in my ears as i set off today.
Have the test booked cat C took a few lessons few faults here and there any advice on the day of the test would be more then welcome to help me, on what to and what not to do would be great, as well as trying to remain relaxed👍🚛🙏thanks
Just tell yourself that you're just going out for another drive. I suffered with my nerves leading up to the test but once I started the test I calmed down a bit. Really use your mirrors....take your time, get comfortable....they are not looking for perfection but they do need to know your not a danger. Best of luck....let me know how you get on buddy.
kevin smith I have have been working on that already i have been driving around with my right arm hanging out of the window it`s at least 2 shades darker than my left arm lol.
fastasfox how did you find the busy city environment in a Lorry, easier or harder than you thought it would be? I'm going to be doing mine in Enfield when i have passed the medical..got to say i'm crapping my self! Good luck with the job hunt :)
kevin smith Well Kevin,if you put aside people stepping off kerbs on mobile phone`s old people crossing where they want, hundreds of kids, Taxi drivers and other lorries dropping loads off etc Bikers whizzing in and out of traffic and very little space in each lane then it was a doddle LOL. But i guess you are used to that in North London.
Big Gratz on the pass!! - sorry it's a bit late, but only been 'on' yer channel 2 days and saw the driving vids first..but glad I picked up on yer training..I last felt 'that good' passin' exam 44 years ago (First Mate foreign-going License), and got promoted to that rank 2 years later...on the 'CBs' my handle (as a world wide seaman was 'Globetrotter' but soon saw truckers usin' same name..does anyone do CB anymore outside the States?..wotever..thks agin, and looking forward to more vids on the road...
that's absolutely amazing well done, is it relatively possible to get work straight after passing because I imagine like any other job nowadays they always demand experience drivers, which leaves you wondering how you're expected to gain experience in the first place :/
ImSophisticatedBruh I have been looking around and while it`s true some companies will require 2 years experience and i guess that`s where the best rate of pay are but as we have a driver shortage in the UK at the moment other companies will use you with no problems.Every new driver started at some point and i guess they found jobs back then, well i guess the same applies now. I think a driver agency is in my future.
Mr N Khan, My plan is to do my C+E then I will carry on working as a chef for the agency until trucking hopefully takes over. I will post my progress as i go.
Hey i know these vids are old but im making my way through them as they have alot of interesting details that are helping me but i need to ask ... what was the mirror tip that was a lifesaver? Thanks in advance
iv got my test 7th jan 2016 shitting bricks myself had my first days driving today struggled with the gear changing its 4 on 4 is there any tips i need to know
+Ashley French Relax and trust me when I tell you your second day will be better. I learnt with the same box and the chap I learnt alongside was a qualified car driving instructor and he even struggled with the box as did I. Remember the sequence when using the box and coming to a stop...handbrake, switch down and then neutral, that way when you come to set off you wont be in high range and try to set off in 5th. They are a great box when you get used to them and I think you will be a better equipped driver at the end of all this as some drivers qualify in auto`s which lets them drive manual trucks too and they find they don't have the first clue especially with the split box. If it was easy everyone would do it. Good luck with your test and please let me know how you got on. ff
Passed, on attempt 2. Knocked cone C over on the reverse first time round. Attempt 2, ONE minor fault in total. Pretty pleased with that, shows nerves got the better of me first time.
