The first step in learning to subnet IPv4 is to understand the starting point. In this video, you’ll learn about IP classes and how to quickly calculate network values from an IP address and subnet mask.

Professor Messer, I can't believe how easy you have made this to understand. after many tutorials & a ccna intro course in college, I didn't understand subnetting like this until I just saw this video. amazing stuff.

Literally explained in 10 minutes what I would have been racking my brain over for an hour If I had just tried to learn it from my book.

Can I just say BRAVO! Thank you! I have been working on Cyber Security certification for a while now. I have had two networking classes and this video by far is the easiest explanation to subnetting I have ever watched. I struggled soo much with it, but this video cleared it right up!

You explained a (seemingly) illusive concept extremely well. Thank you!

This video really helped me understand subnetting at it's most basic. Thank you!

I appreciate the classroom, "white board and demonstration" setup , you did at the end of the video when solving the IP addresses!

Which future video are you referring to where you teach the other method to perform subnet calculations without consideration to the subnet class? p.s: Your contribution is invaluable. Godspeed to you.

How did he get the broadcast address (set all hosts bits to 1) to be 10.255.255.255? Shouldn't the broadcast address be 10.1.1.1?
@professormesser
@professormesser 4 года назад
An "all ones" broadcast is all ones in binary, not decimal. An octet of all binary ones is 11111111, or 255 decimal.
@SteveJ777
@SteveJ777 3 года назад
"Setting to ones" in this case refers to binary ones (for the full octet), which translates to a decimal value of 255.
