I’m fine with Howard being able to do what he wants on Sirius/XM, but going against the mainstream back then (FCC era), and sort of forcing people to realize how much that kind of humor was loved by “normal” audiences, made the listening adventurous and hilarious. We live in a much different era, but if you were around in 1994, music and Stern were kind of punk rock by today’s standards!
Billy West was so good and had such good business sense, Howard was afraid of not having full control of his staff and turned against Billy.. why Keep Martling when he “wouldn’t have anything outside the show” and act so blasé, yet almost expedite and completely ignore Billy West’s requests and eventual exit?
Howard used to be the best dj ever and now has good interviews once in awhile. The show has mellowed over the years and seems to coast along on serious radio until he retires. I miss the old show and still listen here and there but never catch myself hanging out in my car hanging on every word like I used to.
100% true. When any Stern show member would start rising and becoming more entertaining than Howard, he’d start going after them to knock them down very subtly and many times not so subtly.
Jackie will always be my favorite. Could you bookmark each segment like you did on one of the Baba Booey Best Ofs? If not, all good, this is killer shit!
They just didn't have the budget to pay him you know Tom :/. Howard talked about how sad he was to see him go but he was too big of a star a pursued other thing.
It was Fred who wanted Billy gone. He was even more jealous than Howard was of Billy. Billy's impressions put Fred to shame...listen to the Raymond Burr bit...Fred couldn't stand that Billy did it better.
50:23 how would Howard know if Jackie deserved more money? He was never apart of negotiations or other peoples deals, right? (lol) just like being “half Italian” (dbl lol) Great compilation, thank you!
The funny thing is that Jackie Engineered himself getting a puppet on the show. He knows the guy who made it. He got it made. Even put the phone number on the front for advertisement and Howard never caught on. An endless plug.
Jackie: "Hey Howard, what did the right boob say to the left boob?" Howard: "What, Jackie?" Jackie: "Hey, let's stop hanging so low or else people might think we're nuts."
Howard making inappropriate comments about any moderately attractive woman that comes into his field of vision really comes across as some desperate bid to convince everyone he's heterosexual.
Jackie's songs are quite possibly the worst! And he thinks they're great. If I was drunk at a party I STILL wouldn't like it. In fact, it'd likely make me mad! Yeesh!
