The ambassador did nothing shady, It was not her place to pass on the status of the baby. The only valid obligation was to tell the father the baby that the mother was in hospital.

Wow, 20 years after this show aired (1998) did abortion finally become legal in 2018. From Wikipedia "Abortion in Ireland is regulated by the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018. Abortion is permitted in Ireland during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy, and later in cases where the pregnant woman's life or health is at risk, or in the cases of a fatal foetal abnormality. Abortion services commenced on 1 January 2019, following its legalisation by the aforementioned Act, which became law on 20 December 2018."

Not a cop out really. The downside of abortion was explored in Catherine's choice. Zoe made her choice when freed from the emotional and manipulative parents.

That’s just what this delicate topic on abortion is all about. There is always a 50/50 chance of making the right choice but in the end the mother can only choose in favour of the baby’s and her future.

I don’t think I am going to be able to watch this. She should have quietly gone and had the abortion and then said she had a miscarriage. Jeez. I will never understand why there is always so much controversy over whether a woman feels she is ready to have a baby or not.

Great episode, but some things I didn't quite get. Were Sean and Zoe husband and wife? If not, didn't he commit statutory rape? If no, didn't his parents teach them how to prevent pregnancy?

I am thoroughly enjoying this series but this particular subject was poorly written and evidently by a man. A sixteen-year-old girl is sent to Ireland to be looked after by a friend whose son takes advantage and knocks her up but no blame falls on him!.

How about the point where a 16 year old is getting pregnant is sexualy criminal act. In any normal western or christian country you have to be at least 18. The young man is the one which should had been inprisoned. The parents procecuted for neglectance of taking care of a child under their care, including sexual abuse with a minor.
