An environmental disaster, this is. Apparently it takes the same amount of energy to build a car as it takes to run one for 100,000 miles, so keeping cars on the road is well worth it for our planet, the poor thing. Scrappage schemes to encourage new car buying should not be allowed. There are so many nice cars here, why doesn't the government sell them off and raise some money? There must be at least £200,000-worth of Landrovers.

what a scam, going by the what I saw, most of those older English classics were either still in use, modified, ore just waiting to be restored by their owners. What has become of them now i wonder ?, if they simply scrapped them, well there goes a part of motoring history. my guess is they have been snapped up and spirited away for future exploitation of the classic car scene. The other grey porridge can just go to landfill. sad either way, now those people who took the money are driving a shit box, and probably regretting letting go of that dream of having their simple Sunday car to pass onto their kids one day.

Most Car Enthusiasts would feel sick inside at what is happening here. A good Politition needs to stand up and (at least) try to get all of these vehicles Auctioned, with the money raised being spread around the various Charities. I could not watch the whole video, after I bought a burnt-out wreck of a '71 Beetle from a car Scrapyard - and then fully restored it. 15 years later, the car has never let me down, and looks like it left the VW Factory yesterday. Such a sad waste which is being controlled by a pack of idiots.

It's sickening to see classic cars parked there waiting to go off to the crusher when some are restorable and others could provide plenty of spares. I know that legally they must be crushed under the scheme but they could at least let people buy some of the useful parts from them.

When you think of it this is just one place there must be loads of places like this nationwide that have cars slowly rotting away because of that scrappage scheme.

I was skeptical that these were scrappage scheme cars, since the scheme was ten years ago so looked up a few of the numberplates you can see. All of them came back as last MOT in 2010, so it certainly does seem to line up. Curious what the story is behind why they're there, or still around at all.

Great video, but very sad to see all of the classics going to waste. Classics are fast becoming the out of reach of the average car enthusiast and becoming investments for the rich who hide them away. So it great when these sites are found, it's just a shame that we can't car SOS the lot.

These should be sold through some sort of government organized classic car auctions and what remains unsold, should be donated to car museums across UK.

Just pick a plate at random and run it...here's the details for the MG at 5:08 - scrapped in 2010 on the government's hateful scrappage scheme. It had passed an MOT just months before hand with absolutely no advisories and the year before had had a tonne of repairs including welding, so it would have been good to go for years. 86k on the clock. A crying shame..

There is more to this than meets the eye. So many classic cars all sorted together and some special vehicles as well. No vans or commercials were part of the scheme and some of those classics were worth far more than £1,000 in 2009. I'd have all the Minis right now ...

definitely something fishy going on here. the idea was you turn in a drivable car. most of these have been either stripped to the chassis or raided for parts. Both are very illegal under the law the scrappage scheme was under at the time. Whoever scrapped those minis and bugs and landies are idiots. A lot of the stuff is worth 3x the price now. 2 grand for a shitty Hyundai is definitely NOT a good deal.... No doubt security probably took em round the park for a joyride before leaving them where they are. I mean they are all in roughly brand order. Seems odd that only the top of the range models are left. I think theres a lot of black market parts raiding going on here still. Also that G-wagen has gone it seems. Very suspicious.

White Triumph Dolomite @6:48 passed its last MOT on 17/08/09 with 35,718 miles on the clock. Whoever scrapped that so they could get a discounted Hyundai should be shot.

Cash for Clunkers didn't work in the US, but Prudent Gordon Brown gave it a shot (with taxpayers money) nonetheless. Those that cashed up irreplaceable classics for scrap should be publicly flogged.

Bro, all car enthusiasts (including me) are probably really sad to see some of the greatest cars which were loved and cared for, all wait for their time to be crushed, like it’s quite a big change for me and other people like me cause I’m a young enthusiast I’ll always miss the Capri because it was the first ever car I rode in 😢

The rotting land rovers are just criminal! Why didn't somebody in the civil service have the brains to offer them on a 'Come and collect 'em' basis to African governments. I'm sure there are thousands of african farmers and african government departments and charitable organisations that could do good and valuble work with those old landys.

The government should turn this place into a scrap yard and recoup some of the £300 million. It's help restorers of classics too.

I'm slightly gobsmacked. Surely the government aren't scrapping those cars. I spotted loads of classics. I even spotted a Golf GTI mark1 convertible.

It's strange that the BMW's appear to have smashed side windows, whilst the other cars seem to be left unmolested.

There must be thousands of blokes out there who'd like to buy some of these cars for restoration or to remove parts from. Someone could make a few quid out of this, surely.

The sad thing is, keeping an old car running until it's no longer useable is by far the most environmentally friendly thing to do. These cars were all scrapped in 2010 during the 'credit crunch' years to stimulate the economy (nothing to do with climate then) but in 2021 we're seeing yet the same thing happening in the name of political climate change. Never mind the resources needed to create a new car, the fact that components are sourced from all over the world and shipped multiple times and the knowledge that you have to heavily involve China, if not outright buy from them, in the production of new vehicles. They also aren't user-repairable and are certainly not built to last. Never mind facts, eh? The scrappage scheme destroyed so many useable vehicles in the name of propping up the enconomy and it's never really gone away.

No way are these cars going to be scrapped. They are in storage. Notice that there are no Ford Fiestas, Kas, or basic level Peugeots or other French or Italian cars. They are mainly interesting British cars that collectors may fancy with a few Germans and Americans included. Fear not people, these cars will live.

We had a similar program here under President Obama's Cash for Cars program around the same time as part of a scheme to get the Big 3 out of the red in response to the financial crisis of 2008. Sadly, it resulted in perfectly fine cars getting trashed when they could be used to go to collectors or to benefit the poor who wanted an old reliable car. There was a Maserati, and a garaged 1988 Chevy Caprice with 87K on the clock that met the shredder.

Initiators of this scheme never owned a car and never drove in their life an influenced by big car manufacturers to sell their new production. This a crime and a loss of valuable asset.

I've always wanted a VW... To me if a vehicle is maintained and passes an MOT or if people want a doer upper then let them have them... I suspect a lot of the newer vehicles there, especially the stripped Honda Civics are flood damaged write offs and not scrappage scheme vehicles

There is a Few £ Million worth of cars & car parts there. Start counting at £10 per useful item or body panel !! VW beetles & Golfs, Mg midgets Landrovers old Jags etc, They all look Restorable by experts. They should hold a Massive Public Auction to sell them off before they Rot to dust & get swept up . They could offer everything at £1000. each. Average to restoration people. & Put the money towards a National Classic car Museum A Vast one holding 1000's of cars.

They could’ve donated the Landrovers to charities in Africa and gotten a tax write off, if GB has those. What a waste! 😢

These are the cars that were NOT scrapped, they are all of special interest or collectible and were put into catagories ready to go to auction. They are NOT necessarily going to be scrapped. Why do you think there are so many interesting cars all together??
