We have a 34 foot diesel trawler docked at Moore’s, on the Mokelumne river for the last 3 years. When wen first cruised up the San Joaquin river towards Stockton, the sight of the Aurora made me make a double take. Since then, any visitor to our boat gets a tour of the Fir, the Mazepeta and, of course, the lovely Aurora. I am so impressed with your optimism and your always positive attitude. One day when I retire, I hope to be able to lend a hand. Meantime, I’ll wave as we slowly motor by on Grace J. Thank you for keeping us updated Chris!

The Aurora project is epic , RU-vid is full of people redoing boats but you're the only restoring cruise ship . As an old salt i only wish i lived closer so i could grab a paint brush or hammer and give you a hand . She has good bones and will sail again .

To take on a restoration of this scale and film it for the world to see is a doubly awesome thing, all the time that everyone puts in and your dedication to authenticity is truly admirable and for however many years it takes I will watch avidly.

I had a strange moment there when seeing the overhead light fixture in the cabin. It came out of the kitchen in my house, built in '59, and remained there until my wife had me replace it with something that looks nicer back in 2006. Somehow, it made it's way from my garbage can to your ship! I wondered what happened to my stuff that my wife likes to throw away!

Finally a new video! Will the furniture arrangement be based on deck plans in her original forms? And also how will you keep cabins in a consistent design? You for sure need a lot of the same stuff for having at least a couple of cabins not looking completely different. That closet and the doors in the cabin are very original looking actually. They might even be original Wappen von Hamburg! A interesting thing is that next to the closet on the wall there actually was often a Sofa which could also function as bed. Atleast that was the case on many other ships of that era and even before. Looking forward further videos on the restoration of that cabin and of course other areas :D

I love the use of solar panels tbh. There's easy room for them on the ship's deck and it's a good fit for supplying all the tools with energy.

And what I took away from this is "holy diver, you still have land fills"!? I hope all garabage is inspected before being dumped. I thought land fills were discontinued in the 90s.

The shower taps no longer meet the plumbing code. They likely do not have a safety mixing valve so that someone does not get scolded if the cold water pressure drops.

Seems to me that the #1 priority is going to be finding the source of all water leaks. Any restoration is going to be destroyed if moisture can still get in.

A torch works extremely well for getting rid of large quantities of cobwebs quickly. They are very flammable, but don't burn the surrounding area as long as you are careful.

I cannot imagine undertaking a project so large!

On a side note, what happened to the kitchen reno? If you renovate that, you can maybe host more events or helpers?

if you were to take this ship to a dry dock with the big teams they have at drydocks they would have it working again and looking like new in less than a year they would be working on it 24 7 until its ready to be used for real. but i know that will be big money to get it in a drydock. but just saying having a big team and getting that ship working and looking like new in less than a year i would do what every it takes no matter the cost.

Audio levels are all over the place. I have to keep adjusting the volume so i dont wake up the house. Background music needs to be lower. Sometimes the voice over cant be heard over the music bed.

Knock out a wall or two to make big suites. It is not a cruise ship any more. These tiny rooms are no longer needed.

As a marine surveyor...I would have to question hull integrity first upon survey if this small vessel and of it's age should ever find a surveyor. Marine Surveyors are hired to evaluate condition and value based upon findings. Vessel's of this vintage suffer galvanic decay throughout structured hull framing and welded steel skin, stem to stern. It is one of many reasons why most have gone to ship breakers in India. SS United States!

If you park it beside a typical city, you can end homelessness for as many cabins as it has, while encouraging politicians to care enough.
