Another two lovely machines from my video archives. These two lovely Spanish built 1974 Bultaco Pursang 250 and 360 machines belong to Scottish rider Kenny Harper. These are certainly not show machines these are daily use race bikes although you'd never think that whjen you see the condition of both machines.

I get transported back to my youth when I see these. I loved Bultacos and Huskys in the early seventies. Though not the best motocrossers but they are the most beautiful in my opinion.

Me too! Back in the 1970s my cousins and I rode all kinds of bikes out in the woods. Put knobbys on whatever we could get running and go for it. I did once own a Puch 175 which was pretty capable. It had strange front forks with coil over shocks rather than the usual telescoping type. I think the best bike I ever rode was a healthy Penton Six Day. Light, fairly powerful and just unreal in the woods... I could ride that bike comfortably at a higher level than any other. Ah those were the days!

I can imagine repairing these tanks would be a chore. I always liked the alpinas. Hard to find bikes in my area. Always keep my eye out for one.

I had a 74 Bultaco Alpina 250 years ago that I got in a trade for some new snow tires I had that I got running and bought a refurbished gas tank for it from Hughes Bultaco in NY that cost me 230.00 at the time and not even 2 weeks after filling it up with fuel and oil mix the damn paint started to bubble on the left side of the tank and it started to leak fuel. I should have contacted them about this but eventually sold the bike with the tank the way it was . Fun bike to ride handled well because it was light and agile and had good low end torque after I did a top end job on it and put new clutch plates in the bike . I studded the tires and had it out on a lake that was plowed for radar runs a week before I took the bike out and had a lot of fun with it doing wheelies on the ice with it . Wish I had kept it now because you don't see many of them anymore. Not sure what top speed was because the Speedo was gone but I figured maybe 75 mph possibly but never did crank on it hard for a long strait away to see how fast it would go with someone riding next to me with a Speedo to see what top end was on it . Compared to my 74 Yamaha MX360 I had years before and the Honda XR 600R I had at the time when I had the Bultaco it was pretty slow and tame being it was a Enduro but it was fun to ride . I had buddies that had old Harley Davidson Sportsters that had the right hand shift with the rear brake on the left that I got to work on and ride so when I got the Bultaco had no problems riding it once I got it running and fixed up again but thought the left side kick start was kind of neat and it actually seemed to work pretty good on the bike I had. The Amal carburetor worked ok but was pretty crude having to use the tickler to flood the engine for cold starts and you'd always get a little fuel that would leak when using it on your fingers and had thought of buying the Mikuni upgrade but didn't because once the bike was started and was running warmed up it ran pretty good so I left it on the bike .

Great video Chris, I have seen these machines on some of your past videos. I am a Bul freak here in the states, Been racing and riding them since 74 still have the 74 250 Plus about six more different models. Pomeroy left Bultaco after 76, road Honda for two years then in 79 went back to Bultaco. Watch the motocross files videos and here Jim’s opinion why the factory closed, When Mr. Honda came to visit Mr. Bulto. Love your channel I know you’re going to hit 10,000 subscribers.

David Zornes Hi David yes your right I have used them before although because of the dreaded Covid19 virus I am committed to staying in the house so I am unable to get out and about for new material for my channel but thanks anyhow for watching.

Beautiful machines. Had a friend who was passionate about them so got to ride all of his through time. Smooth power delivery, fair to crappy suspension, and the fiberglass tanks SUCKED.

The 250 is a 1975 model 135 MK-5 not a 1974 model 120, you can tell as the shocks forward mounted about 3" on the swingarm, bigger ugly rear hub and about a degree less head angle. The 360 is a 1974 model 121. I have had five and 120/121 models, and they are wonderful bikes for vintage racing! p.s. Only the 1975's had the shifter shafts protruding on both sides. 1974 only had the shaft on the RH side.

Here in the U.S. all bikes were required to have standardized shifting on the left and braking on the right. That's why the 1975 250 is suspicious to me.

Hi, I have a mk9 1977 I believe, I brought it about 7 months ago not really knowing much about these bikes to be honest, mine is a bitch to start from cold it has a bing 54 carb on it. The bike was restored when I brought it and once started it runs nice, is there a special way of starting as I seem to hit the foot peg every time and it feels like I am not getting a good kick down on it. Any help much appreciated

I want a Astro Project alas would have more chance being serenaded by Naked woman queuing for Dole money than finding one. So will keep building my Project Pursang`s when find correct parts for them. Very nice Pursang`s am Jealous now as mine look like been dragged from the dump
