Classic Doctor Who 21x0 REACTION!! "The Five Doctors" 

The sonic screwdriver actually came into being in the Second Doctor's era, but by the Fifth Doctor's era, the producers started foregoing it's use and making the Doctor go without one. And yes, the Second and Third Doctors had met before, as well as the First, in an earlier anniversary story called The Three Doctors. It was William Hartnell's last appearance as the First Doctor, and he passed away about a year or two later.

OH! And if you happen to find the anniversary version of The Five Doctors DVD, there's a hidden Easter egg commentary where David Tennant, Phil Collinson (producer) and Helen Raynor (writer and script editor) get drunk on champagne and ramble hilariously. (The part where David comments about needing some alone time as a teen when he first saw Peri in a bikini in Planet of Fire is a classic.)

Elana I think that would have been a better Multi Doctor Story To react to The Chemistry between the 2nd And 3rd Doctor was Excellent and They get to see the real First Doctor

The second Doctor was the best anyway...too bad so many of his episodes are missing. (But the recreations they did so far are acceptable substitutes) But if you want to go for an episode that has the most stuff that gets referenced in the new series you kinda had to go for the five doctors. Or watch one good episode for each of the enemies. Or the preferred method, just watch all of them..there are only 26 years worth of episodes :D

I would love it I’ve only seen the first few of the first doctors stories and the 90s TV movie with the either doctor but I always wanted to watch the whole classic series but I haven’t not because it’s so old because I like old shot but it’s because there’s sooooo many episodes of the classic series and I like the revival where it’s like a villain of the week thing and every episode is a different adventure with 2 or 3 two parters per season the classic series is more like a serial and each story is usually about 4 episodes

They should elbow the modern feeble New Who shit and concentrate on proper Doctor Who!

I wouldn't really call it a special. It featured the first 3 Doctors together, but otherwise it was a regular 4-part serial at the start of season 10, about 11 months _before_ the 10th anniversary. The Five Doctors was the only episode in the classic run which wasn't part of a normal season.

It's amazing how they pulled it off considering how poor the budget was back then. They really had to up their game in storytelling to make up for the poor effects at the time.

The Master is more of a Moriarty to the Doctor's Sherlock.

Frankly this makes it worse. They've now seen someone actually playing the Master (not Giggling Idiot) and someone actually playing Rassilon (not Angry Timothy Dalton). It's so much worse watching those two parodies after seeing the real thing

Also they're familiar with the Fifth Doctor now, so the minisode "Time Crash" will have a little more impact.

They're all great stories, but the 6-7 parters can be a bit challenging for the unfamiliar. Safer with the 4-parters; so City of Death, Robots of Death and Caves of Androzani are must-sees. Other good 4-parters (one from each era) would be: - Remembrance of the Daleks - Vengeance on Varos (2 parts, but 45 mins each) - Earthshock - The Brain of Morbius - The Time Warrior - Tomb of the Cybermen - The War Machines

@@ftumschk I'm not sure who to reply to here. You can't do Robots of Death and Talons of Weng-Chiang unless you do Face of Evil. And Leela was the absolute best. And if these guys have seen School Reunion then they should see Invisible Enemy, Sun Makers and Invasion of Time. It has been a VERY long time since I've seen some of these but I don't remember them being all that good. I remember The Daemons being particularly good; especial with the reference to them in The Satan Pit. Of course, it's probably moot with this being an almost 3 year old video.

I tried to re-watch Greatest American Hero on Netflix. It hasn't held up well at all. I loved it when it came out.

The special effects and costumes are definitely dated but even now when I hear the Theme song I love it.

Spearhead From Space would have been a good starting point A New Doctor and it's the first time the show was in colour and it features a similar enemy

I would suggest a baker story, so i.e Genesis of the Daleks over The Tenth Planet as its aged like wine in comparison.

How in the hell is the Fifth Doctor the most generic classic Doctor? Classic Who is predominantly built on mischievous, childish old men who act as grandfatherly figures. The Fifth Doctor is mild-mannered, sarcastic as hell and straight-laced to the point of being a killjoy. If anything he is the most unique Doctor of them all. Certainly the most unique of the Classic Series. Though it would be true to say the he's definitely the blueprint for the New Who Doctors, in that he's portrayed more as a reckless, naive friend than a grandfatherly figure like the first four Doctors.

To be quite honest, while I obviously don't have any problems with anyone who likes Tennant, I'm really not the biggest fan of the Tenth Doctor. He's actually my least favourite Doctor of them all. The Fifth, however, I would most definitely call my favourite. But what I found so bizarre about the original comment is that the Fifth Doctor is about the furthest you could possibly get from the Tenth Doctor in terms of personality. As you said, Time Crash highlighted a few stylistic similarities, but that's about as far as it went. Other than those few stylistic elements, the two couldn't be any more different. The Tenth is egotistical, the Fifth is modest. The Tenth is loud, the Fifth is quiet. The Tenth is decisive, the Fifth is dithering. The Tenth is laid back, the Fifth is uptight. The Tenth is intimate, the Fifth is impersonal. They're at completely different ends of the spectrum in terms of personality. I really think the OP is a New Who fan whose only experience of the Fifth Doctor is through Time Crash. They are absolutely nothing alike.

Firstly, the fifth and tenth Doctors are nothing alike. Secondly, Earthshock would be a much better choice of Cyberman story for them to watch

Mint Dragon Because this ties in to the end of series 3 so the reveal actually means something. They will probably do Genesis of the Daleks before series 4 starts.

I would've said to start with "Spearhead from Space". Honestly, Genesis is overrated. Power, Remembrance, and even Revelation are much better than Genesis.

I would say Terror of the Autons. That's the first story ever with the master in it and also one of the best.

Between every season sounds more realistic.

Specifically, the footage used of Tom as well as Lalla Ward as Romana 2 was from the untransmitted Douglas Adams story "Shada" at the end of season 17, the 2nd to last for Tom's 7, that was finished at the time due to a strike at the BBC. It has since been finished with animation and voice overs for unfilmed material and was released on DVD. It had only been 2 years since Baker left the show. His first appearance on TV since he regenerated was in the 50th anniversary but he has done a ton of Big Finish audio stories and continues to make them.

I watched Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy in real-time; and although they're generally regarded the worst, my memories of it as a kid are truly magical. It was haunting; fascinating; and sometimes downright unbearably scary when I was 8 yrs old!!
