Recently discovered that the plot of Sonic Adventure was based on details from the Sonic 3 Japanese manual, so I’m not really sure Sonic Team themselves viewed Adventure as a “reboot” of the series. There’s also the fact that Amy flashes back to the events of Sonic CD at one point. I think Sonic Team just saw Adventure as a continuation from where the series left off with Sonic 3, but with some retooling of the character designs and art direction. Unfortunately, a lot of the details mentioned in the Japanese manuals for the original trilogy and CD were omitted when localized for the west, so a lot of western fans were confused by the changes in Adventure.
As I said in the video, since Sonic had a huge gap between his mainline games *Sonic 3D Blast and R are just spin offs, and Sonic Jam didn't have any new story aside from the Sonic World tech demo, no new games for 4 or 5 years* people were losing interest in Sonic and move into other new series like Crash,Spyro,N64 platformers, so Sonic Team made Sonic Adventure as a reboot *hench some of the changes how Sonic met Tails and Amy and redoing a bunch of Sonic 3 ideas, including ones they couldn't do on the genesis, like Chaos* there was interview with Sonic Team during SA1's 20th and they said people in japan were losing interest in Sonic *heck they didn't even get Sonic 3D intill 1999 only new Sonic game after Sonic 3&K was Sonic R...* hench the Sonic we got now, also speaking of manuals in japan knuckles chaotix is meant to continue from Sonic 3 & Knuckles..*basically the real Sonic 4* since that was a flop *and they knew ahead, hench why they removed Sonic and Tails as playable characters left as just a cameo at the end* SEGA like to avoid that game/32x system
As someone who's currently trying to hack the game, it might be, but it'd be a ton of work and a bunch of custom coding! Besides the digging in I've done, there's not a whole lot of info on its code and object formats out there yet, though hopefully some day someone else will take an interest in it too.
Sonic team is scared of showing off the Saturn Version of adventure for a reason...even if the game isn’t technically complete. The few screenshots we got looked really good
We have literally just mockups of that version of the game, and the engine test that they had working, which they turned into a Sonic museum in Sonic Jam Several games just have mockups shown off first, it's a common thing. Even in fangame circles, Sonic XG for example.
You make pretty amazing videos here. It really makes me wonder and think what we could of had. Don't get me wrong, I love Sonic Adventure, I am just always curious when it comes to game betas or unused concepts and ideas. And now, I am starting to think that Metal Sonic and Mecha Sonic Mk. 3 (or as the comics called him, Silver Sonic v2.0 but I prefer to call him Mecha Sonic Mk. 3 to connect him the other Mecha Sonics from Sonic 2 (16 bit) and 3 and Knuckles) probably had some role in the game at one point.
Those storyboards make me wonder how late into development they truly settled on the redesigns. Could it be possible there was an early build of the Dreamcast version at some point that still used the classic designs? It's pretty clear that the one image of the Dreamcast version with Sonic in an early Windy Valley is some kind of mock-up (like those screens of the Saturn version), did that model ever make it into playable form? Makes me wish we knew about SA1's development in more detail. Here's hoping there will be some more prototypes discovered in the future. Seems unlikely, but hey, so did a Sonic 1 prototype, so you never know.
ive been following this mod for a long time now, and im so happy to see how good it finally turned out! my only gripes are the gamma replacement, and amy's standout fingers. would you be able to make an update that fixes these things?
FRIENDS I come bearing good news and bad news! I have learned how to get this mod workin with DC Conversion! Unfortunately, you can't have Mecha Sonic with it. I've also heard there's some issues with some of the levels crashing the game, but I haven't run into any. The ones I saw mentioned were Windy Valley and Ice Cap. Special thank you to @RetroNova for mentioning this in the replies of another comment, but here it is: >Go into the folder for this mod, and make a backup of "SA2001.ini" just in case. >Go into SA2001.ini, and I recommend using the Find function (Ctrl F, or just go into Edit on the tabs) to search for "E102". >From there, just select everything having to do with Gamma and Big and delete it all. Make sure to keep it neat too, just in case a sloppy job messes anything up. >After that's done, save the file, then go into the mod loader and just make sure to have the mod under DC Conversion, and, if you want, you can still use DC Characters with this mod as well, though that was always possible. Just toggle off the main 4 characters (S,T,K,A) since this mod writes over the SADX Models. DC Characters should be above this mod as well. >This is only a temporary solution I hope, as this requires you don't play with Mecha Sonic, which is a shame cause it's dope af. >I sincerely look forward to seeing this mod evolve further in the future, ClassicSonicSatAM has done an amazing job here, and I wish you all the best of luck, enjoy 👌
I actually prefer that these models dont have mouth animations, they always looked so bad anyway. Plus I absolutely love what you did with the models, especially gamma! Didnt you originally have a video showing the mech chasing amy as a silver sonic styled robot? Will you ever release that? Also would you ever edit the E-series robots to be recolor of your new gamma model for consistency? Fantastic quality stuff! I hope you can fix the problems people have with getting it to work with the dreamcast mod
im pretty sure the saturn version of adventure was just mock ups. the latest it was actually developed was at sonic jams release probably, because sega wouldve shifted focus to dreamcast.
You sparked my interest again!!! Hey man. Mecha/Silver Sonic II is my FAVORITE Robot. Anyways from the last video, do you think we'll see him again? Whenever you show the Bot, I go all fanboy.
