Classic Game Room - FLATOUT review 

You completely forgot to mention the demolition derby part. So much fun.

This is the game that got me into video games. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

I'm surprised he didn't see their was a demolition derby mode.

this game is soooooo awesome!!! played it on the xbox back in the day and it is one of my favourite racing games ever.

Just fired this up with a racing cockpit... unbelievable ffb on the wheel and surprisingly excellent handling. And so much fun!!!

I played this game every game after school. Couldn’t stop thinking about it as I got older. The main reason I’ve been gaming as long as I have been. Will always be a classic

God, what a memorries... I'm suprised it only came out in 2004. I remeber I used to play shit out of this game when I was younger. :D

The damage model in this game is the best ever. The detail is incredible. If you knock off your front end you can actually see the blades of the engine fan spinning around. Those small details are all over these cars. I have never seen such attention to damage details before in any game before or since.

lol yeah i remember this, the driver flying out of the windshield when crashing was hilarious

spent the past hour trying to remember this old game. the only clue I had was a lyric "I stole the ring from the Golem to watch and wither away now baby". which turned out to be from the hiss: back on the radio. I really like this game but I could never get past that first snow level, drove me crazy so I traded it in. the mini games were a lot of fun though.

Me and my neighbor Mike would hang out and play this game all the time. The ragdoll physics were hilarious yet gruesome. Fun game :D

in hungary too! there was also that game called mashed from them, i liked it too! it's quite different, but still awesome :) however i can't mention that many games from them, but the ones i know, have some greatness!

Gas Guzzlers Extreme also made me think of the game Dirt when I first started playing it. it's a little bit similar to this.

I love being told its "ClassicGameRoom dot come" at the beginning then I get told again on the title card that its ClassicGameRoom then I get told again to visit ClassicGameRoom. com for more. It really cements the fact that this is a ClassicGameRoom video and isnt annoying at all.

Worth mentioning that the mod community for Flatout is still going strong as well with new cars, tracks, mods and conversion packs.

I've played this for countless hours. It feels like it wasn't too long ago that I was obsessed with the damn game. It's more than 8 years ago.

yes, it's almost 9 years old :) and yes, i start feeling old too, when i see peaople saying about something that it's classic, with which i almost grew up (i'm 26 now, i was almost 18 back then, when it was released.... yeah, i feel old :D)

I played Flatout 2 a lot... great series

Besides FlatOut 2 there's also FlatOut: Head-On (a port of sorts of FO2 for the PSP) and Ultimate Destruction (essentially an enhanced FO2 for PS3/360) There's also a FlatOut 3 for the PC and a Wii game but those weren't done by the original developers, and it shows. Bugbear have recently made Ridge Racer Unbounded which, while not having drivers flying out of windshields, is a load of fun.

Hey, good news, the guys at Bugbear announced a while ago that they're working on a new game, and their teaser trailer looked like it could very well be a new FlatOut style game! :D Also, Flatout 2 is probably one of my top 3 favorite racing games.

I found this game for $4 in a bargain bin about five years ago. Had no idea what it was and thought why not give it a try. That was a great decision!

funny how they used the death scream from Microprose "X-Com UFO Defense". I notice that scream is used in alot of other games and even commercials.

You should do the other 2 flat outs as well

I can't really say there's many other driving games I loved more than FlatOut 2. Ultimate Carnage simply made it better. Please, Bugbear, come back to us!

I remember back when I played this game I had to buy 3 different copies of the game because they would just stop working and then after that I wasn't allowed to get another disc and I've never been able to play it since.

I miss the bonus games those were fun!

There was a Flatout for the 360 4 years ago. It's pretty much the sequel with updated graphics, but when was that a bad thing?

still play both these games on my ps2 occasionally, the sequel is even better! best racing games in existence if you ask me, would love to see a third one on next gen consoles.

I still play Flatout 2 till this day. On the PSP and a mac port. ^^

that car deformation is incredible for PS2 era.

FlatOut2/Ultimate Carnage is fantastic. I played that for weeks. It's very hard in the later levels, but still feels fair, which is something you don't come across in games that much anymore. One of my other favourite PS2 racers that doesn't get a lot of attention is Mashed: Fully Loaded. It's much like Micro Machines and fantastic in 2 player mode.

I played this quite a lot on the PC back in the day, it was also great fun for MP, I don't understand how this series didn't really became popular like Burnout or something... I remember I only got it because someone told me it used the same physics midleware as Hl2 (havok), I think. anyway, the PS2 version looks pretty good considering the limitations, the fact that is a multiplatform game, with damage, visible interior, detailed scenery and all. good stuff.

I bought this off the used obscure rack at play 'n trade. I thought it was going to be destined to be awful, but it isn't. It's just a hoot to drive around like a maniac destroying half the track. I was impressed by the damage engine, which severely lacks in a lot of games, and the opponents seem to actually fight back if you shove them off the track.

The PC gamespy servers for Flatout 2 are still online and there are still people playing it.

Review flatout 2

It's way more popular here in Europe (and on the PC, to be specific). I still maintain that Flatout 2 is perhaps the single greatest arcade racing game of the last decade.

i loved this game on my xbox. one of the secret highlights of that console generation for me. interesting fact: in germany you drove as crashtestdummies, because the people who rate games here thought it looked too brutal when "real" people fly through the carwindow. no shit. they really changed that.

I have Flatout Ultimate Carnage, & LOVE that it's a racing game with NO HELMETS! (sending ur driver through the windshield is pure BLISS)

Bugbear Entertainment is a Finnish video game company who have also made such great titles as Rally Trophy (2001 PC) and Ridge Racer Unbounded (2012 Xbox360, PS3, PC) among others.

One of the best racing series out there.

Also Flatout Head On on the psp is awsome as well. It's basically a direct port of the ps2 version of Flatout 2 just without the online multiplayer.

I don't feel like the Flatout series has advanced a great deal, but regardless of which one you choose, they're pretty much all fun to play.
