Finally a review that focuses on the fun in this game. It is a completely viable zombie game and while it may not feel like the other RE games, it brought more of a shooter aspect to the series.
I still play this online, its really good, like a 3.5/5 good. favorite class, demolitions, with a heavy machine gun and a samurai edge. The dlc is quite good too, however, still looking for online players that have it.
i bought this game around 2 weeks ago second hand for 14$ and i think its pretty good... it's a little short but it has a lot of replay value... as a piece of advice use both the samurai handgun and the riot shotgun and you will have a really enjoyable experience... laters!
I think this game gets a lot more hate than it deserves. Its has some bugs...sure. But the game overall is a lot of fun to play. I recently started playing through it again and I am really enjoying it.

I have to admit that I did enjoy playing this game. I know I know, it's not true Resident Evil game, but still I liked to play Operation Raccoon City. I care about the characters & the stories of Resident Evil universe, not the game itself, so I can easily enjoy different Resident Evil game. What comes to Operation Raccoon City, it's fun, but challenging. There are problems, both small & big, but still I had a blast with this game. Although I did buy this in lower price, which you should do too, because this game is not worth much money (NOT counting the DLCs here, just the game itself).

I really wish they explained things a bit more, like the actual story and new important gameplay details. I completed the game without knowing how to open the weapon cases, how to unlock (purchase) weapons and abilities, or how to perform the over-powered knife combo (I still can't seem to get it right.) Not to mention those infinite swarms of pseudo-invincible SPEC-OP's and Crimson Heads towards the end were a pain in my side, almost as much as Birkin's invisible walls or the nearly impossible final boss.
Playing this with friends is awesome. Putting together a squad with special abilities that compliment each other to crush the enemy team is loads of fun. It feels good to know that a lot of people are enjoying this game in spite of the bad reviews, most of which are much too harsh.

Aside for Resi 4 and, perhaps, 2, the entire franchise is profoundly overrated. When people became up in arms about 5, Raccoon City and 6 it was difficult not to wonder where the sense of standard was supposed to lie. All early Resi games are poorly written, annoying to control and often not that scary. 4 is an exercise is in perfect pacing, atmosphere and gameplay, though.
bassben04 You can have your opinion, but I incredibly disagree, I thought the Resident Evil titles on the PS1 and GC controlled well but also because it wouldn't work any other way due to the fixed camera angles.
...That's like asking "Then why'd you click on this video?" You buy/click because you don't know whether it'll be good or not, so you take it for a test run. You have to remember A LOT of people purchased it on the release date. So there were little to no reviews on it.

Finally a good review of this game. Every other review i listen to sounds like the person is bitching about little details and is spoiled by games like call of duty. I love this game and i love the resident evil series big time. It was just fun running around an HD raccoon city from the third person view,the story was ok but in the end the fun aspect of the game is most important,and i had A LOT of fun with this game,and i still do. Get the right people to play it with you and its a lot of fun.

Deus Ex (2000) is the greatest PC game ever made and is a holy testament to how single player games should be done. Not to mention the iconic System Shock.
I'm a CGR fan myself and love his reviews - but this is a game where I don't agree with Marks opinion. That doesn't make Mark a bad reviewer or his style wrong. He found something to like about this game and made it clear in the review that fans of "old school" Resident Evil games probably won't like this one but he still thought the game was fun. What's wrong with that? Just because his opinion doesn't match yours - that does NOT make Mark a bad reviewer. All of Marks reviews are honest and fun
I don't think only online matters, I also mention other aspects of gameplay. The specs actually affect gameplay a lot. Take Serious Sam 3, for example. There are, at any time, 20 enemies on-screen at once. It's REALLY fun. Bulletstorm, on the other hand, has 4 enemies on-screen. It REALLY deteriorates the game, and compared to PC exclusives, really detracts from the enjoyment. And I agree, nothing beats playing classics. I was playing Sonic yesterday in my bed on my 19 inch laptop :).

Yes, but the events unfold as the stories did with RE2 and 3 with some minor alterations. You play as Umbrella soldiers cleaning up the city of evidence and trying to arm the nuke.
Was that one of those Las Plagas creatures from Resident Evil 4 at 5:17 ? Storyline wise I thought those didnt come about until a few years after the intial Raccoon City outbreak
This game is exactly what im looking for and a total hidden gem in my oppinion. I love third Person shooters, its my favourite genre. Also love ur Channel Mark, keep up the amazing work.
Believe it or not, Capcom's marketing team stated a while back that resident evil games are going to be developed as action shooters from now on, and that they're hoping to appeal to the CoD audience. =\
FINALLY a review from someone I can trust!!!!! I will pick this game up for sure now. I love Resident Evil but the timeline and the game being all action is no problem for me since I love all types of games! =D
I was also playing Fallout (a single player game) as well. I just mention online because it's a HUGE aspect, and a BIG difference between PC's and consoles. But yeah nothing beats playing the classics on my PC :). I guess we can agree on that.
Since a lot of games are cross platform now, people can play them on PC, with prettier graphics, better developer support, enhanced multiplayer, a smoother framerate, and actual 720p and above for a very affordable price now. Consoles have 7 year old hardware, meaning pretty much any 500 dollar PC can play any game out right now and run it well. As for the games themselves, you can't beat buying Portal 2 and Bioshock for 10 bucks combined.
As a hardcore fan of the RE series (I even appreciates the old tank controls and everything) I can say I love this game. Part of it may be my tendency to enjoy action games..but its a really well-made game thats a ton of fun to play..combining satisfyingly good shooting mechanics with all the great things you love about the resident evil franchise: the story, the characters, the enemies, and, of course, shooting a shitload of zombies..
At least someone has an open mind when reviewing a game that may upset the "fans" of the series. To be honest Re2 and 3 were my favorite games and this is like a mix between socom and RE...how can you go wrong. Why not have survival horror, and action games withing the same franchise?

I think that this game was okay. In my opinion what they should've done was split the RE series. The traditional Resident Evil series would be survival horror and they could make another series following the ORC characters after the first game and that would be their action franchise based in the RE universe.
Yes RE did stop being scary in the traditional sense since 4, but I actually did find some of 4 pretty damn scary, specifically the chainsaw enemies, they freaked me out.
what I love about this game is that people wanted something different from the RE series, then they got it and they were all like why did they change RE..... fans will never be happy, me personally i had issues with the game but all in all i had a ton of fun playing it
Resident Evil 2 was the best one, but I see and understand what Capcom was doing here. They let a small company have a smaller budget to create something a little different with one of their big franchises. They wanted to see if their was a market for it (and money to be made). I get it. I will pick this up for PC.
My PC is hooked up to my television, I play on it the same way I play my PS3 or Xbox 360. You just got to have the right TV for that. You could also use controllers on the PC too (I use a wireless Logitech controller). Single player gaming on the PC is just as good, if not - BETTER. There are a majority of modding sites for video games that just make games a lot more fun. As for graphics, that depends on your budget. You could spend less than you would on a PS3 and still get great graphics.
This one looks like it could be a lot of fun. I'm not a big fan of most zombie games because of the plodding pace they all take, so all this running and gunning might be perfect for me.
Love the idea of a alternate story to the original games.. only problem it's short like 4-6 hours short. Spent the whole time saving experience to buy guns. Bought it 30 minutes later game was over... not worth a 60$ purchase
that's only one part in 4 out of plenty amazing ones,also you could only throw one harpoon whenever it came up,that's a little different from a gun turret with infinite ammo for no reason other than to make it simple for all the kids out there.
Very True. No idea what was up with RE6. Couldn't understand why Capcom though it was a good idea to make it a clone on any other generic third person shooter.
What I like about Classic Game Room is he spots every fault and every good aspect of the game, and then doesn't say whether it's bad or good (unless terribly bad or ridiculously good). Instead, he tells us who would like it and who wouldn't. It's more helpful than IGN's biased reviews.
The horror of the early RE games was a masterpiece. But there's always room for an action shooter style game. Not scary but just plain fun. Especially if you can light zombies on fire. Booya
if you have friends to play with online, get this, it has fun gameplay that as long as you dont take it too seriously, you'll enjoy yourself. RE5 isnt a bad game, just in the context of resident evil, its a big step in a new direction.
Because after one game has you fighting Gigantes on foot,the sequel should not make those boss fights on rail,which were half the boss fights in RE 5 anyway.
I loved how this game was played when i picked it up until it was short. And all you must notice that there's 3 RE games comin this year: RE Revelations, RE ORC and save the best for last RE 6. So this is actually just a quickie to stall ya 'till RE 6 comes in
I've actually been playing RE since the PS1 days and I gotta admit I enjoyed this game more than RE 5,better atmosphere all together and honestly better AI than Sheva. But I see why people would disagree when it comes to RE turning into an action game. My rebutle though,would be that RE 5 is the least survival horror RE to come out and yet people still claim its amazing which it isnt.
it doesnt matter what kind of games they make, as long as they make good ones. while this one may lack the strategy of saving and finding ammo for weapons, it certainly looks like there is still startegy, considering it is a squad based TPS, like freedom fighters or ghost recon.
Got this from GameFly's bargain bin for $9 bucks and free shipping. Came in two days and I beat the game in two days. Really fun game and I was lucky enough to get it at a VERY LOW price along with some other games. My only complaint is that team mate AI was garbage , I didn't update the game until after I beat it and it could be better now.
im a huge resident evil fan, in fact every console i ever bought was due to a resident evil game. this game is fun, is it the best resident evil game ever made? hardly. its a shooter. you run around and shot the crap out of zombies, brings back a lot of memories from re2. but yeah its really hard to give this one a rating, i tell people to rent it first
