Classic Game Room HD reviews the Sega Genesis 6-button Arcade Stick for the Sega Genesis video game console. This is a wonderful arcade joystick for the Sega Megadrive game system and is ideal for fighting games like Street Fighter II that use the six button layout. It has a fabulous arcade style joystick stick with a huge knob (hold your jokes!) perfect for gripping with your hand (watch it!). This joystick fighting controller for the MD is also ideal for games like Samurai Shodown, Twin Cobra and Air Diver. Any game that benefits from that arcade feel will be well paired with the 6-button Arcade Stick from Sega for use with the Sega Mega Drive. It is a hefty controller and a bit larger than the NES Advantage controller for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It has turbo fire (they call it Megafire) and huge, arcade style buttons. Classic Game Room loves this controller. But it today, it's cheap and well worth the money because it is built like a tank and wants a new home. A home where it will be put to the test with Sega Genesis games.

The model 2 Genesis that I bought for $15.00 at the Berryessa Flea Market back in 2010 came with the 6-button Arcade Stick. It was amazing it did.

I bought this stick based on CGR's recommendation, and I LOVE IT! It's probably the best rubber contact arcade stick you're going to find anywhere. I have no idea how Sega pulled it off, but it works great. Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat and Eternal Champions play great on this thing! :)

Why not just get a Mame emulator for you pc, and a cheap arcade joystick. Then replace the joystick and buttons with Sanwa parts? Instant home arcade..

There's an arcade-perfect port for the PS1 and Sega Saturn, which includes the two-player versus mode (in which includes choosing a stage and adjusting the handicap (1 star - you'll inflict a small damage to your opponent, perfect for practicing special moves. 8 stars - you'll inflict big damage to your opponent) ...

I have a US version Genesis 6-Button Arcade Stick & a Japanese version Mega Drive 6-Button Power Stick with a micro switched stick. I use both depending on what type of game I am playing & like them both. The Japanese version is extremely rare these days to find here in the USA.

I got mine at a smelly junk shop in Los Angeles. I had to seriously clean it up, take it apart, get the dead spiders out, and their webs. Take each button out and clean it, wash the contacts off. But now it's almost like new and IT'S AWESOME!!! WORKS PERFECT!

I also had one for Eternal Champions (which was my favorite Sega game). I recently bought a refurbished Sega Genesis console, along with a refurbished Eternal Champions game. I found a 6 button arcade controller on eBay which arrived today. I look forward to playing them. 😊

Let me tell you this. I finally found one of these things and bought it today. It is the best arcade stick I've ever used next to the NES Advantage. Except this thing can also plug into your Atari 7800. Double win. Thanks Mark for reviewing all these great controllers and stuff for the systems.

Beautiful. Just got done playin street fighter 2 with a normal sega remote and ive got a blister on my thumb cause using the dpad is a nightmare. I will trade you lol.

And it's huge. You can open it and hold almost anything. Even the burger that's the size of 2 bricks that you're saving for later. You can actually hold bricks to weigh it down, if it's not heavy enough for you. If it isn't, you're crazy. That thing is HEAVY.

I have the three button version of this from when the Mega Drive was first released here in Australia. Still my absolute favourite controller of all time. Although there was a locally released Mega Drive controller called "The Tank" and it was freakin' massive. I'd love to see your reaction to that one! It dwarfed the Sega Arcade one! LOL Oh... you earn massive street cred for references to Twin Cobra. That was a fantastic shooter.

Just got one of these today ! Got the best deal ever, found a Genesis model 1 attached to a Sega CD for 50 dollars ! The guy was so cool he even threw in the arcade stick, I about jumped for joy. One thing was unique though, when you put a model 1 Genesis on top of a Model 2 Sega CD it kind of hangs off the side but mine has a little extender attached to the left side of the Sega CD so it elongates it. I had never seen this accessory before but it's completely awesome. Anyone else ?

TRUE DAT HOMEY! :) LOL! They even have to recreate OLD games in order to keep gamers entertained. Perfect example - Bionic Commando Re-Armed. I'm sure everyone has seen that game already. It's exactly like the classic Arcade (and console) version except with an updated look. They had to recreate old school to keep us entertained. It's this same way in the music industry , TV industry, and movie industry too. But nothing is ever better than the originals.

hey thats a great idea, i got me a hori fighter stick 3 for ps3 and pc, and when playing robotron i have to set the shooting to the stick and the movement to my keyboard directional buttons, btw an scrade stick with joysticks on both sides wil be great for lefty's aswell

That would work, I never really thought of that, though I use Genesis controllers for my Atari 7800. Anyhow I never used the Sega Gen arcade stick, but the Nes Advantage was win! The dual analog/shock/six axis etc. controller for the PSX/PS2/PS3 is sweet though.

:"if its bigger then the console you play it on." Then the X-Arcade must be GOD! lol You should review the Xtension arcade cabinet. I have one and I love it. Its the perfect home retro gaming station when paired with the x arcade stick and I flip the keyboard door down and mount steering wheels.

About the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive 6-button arcade stick: if you have the 32X version of Virtua Fighter 1 and the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Virtua Fighter 2, set A for guard (Block), X for punch, Y for kick and the rest of the buttons to do nothing. If you have the Street Fighter series for your Genesis/Mega Drive, set X for light punch, Y for medium punch, Z for heavy punch, A for light kick, B for medium kick and C for heavy kick. If you have SNK's games for your Genesis/Mega Drive and Sega CD/Mega CD, set A for well, wait for it -- A, X for B, Y for C, Z for D and the rest of the buttons to do nothing. And if you have the Mortal Kombat games for your Genesis/Mega Drive, 32X and Sega CD/Mega CD, set X for high punch, A for low punch, Y for block, B for run, Z for high kick and C for low kick.

SEGA 6-Button Arcade ruled when used on an Atari2600jr (after the crappy Atari joysticks I had broke), for playing classic games such as Centipede and Defender II how they were meant to be. Also a cool thing, it was compatible with the Master System (using the converter).
