Sadly Christophe Dominici legendary french winger (number 11 on this game) killed himself in November last year. French legend gone too soon very traumatic event in french rugby. RIP

Lamaison, man of the match, put all style of possible points, he permitted France to stay in the match when ABs were seeming to thrash France at 10-24... drop, drop, penalties X2, magic passesX2 which lead to 2 magnificent tries. One of the best flyhalf in french rugby History. without a doubt... He won the european cup with Brive in club few years before that match :)

I watched all of the world cup games on TV. The All Blacks were unpassable. It was unimaginable that they could be beaten. In this game it was clear to see that the French eventually solved the problem by kicking over the top or through the defence and that was it. We were all totally in shock. How could anybody beat the Jona All Blacks ... the French of course.
They played as one like the Blacks are known for. But we got lucky as well. I'd like to thank all the players who played that day. Sure I'm happy we won, but it's so magical against an All Black team that GOOD 🙏🏽

France faced a hard period in rugby between 2011 (and their final lost by 1 point against the All Blacks in New Zealand), and 2019 where the weren't competitives and lost a lot of games. But since 2019 they are back on track with a golden generation (Dupont being the best example), and are easily in the top 5 best nations of rugby at the moment. The next world cup will be played in France in 2023

I was at twickenham for this game and predicted the French win, France had beaten AB 3 out o last 5 games. And they played simple rugby, the Grubba, when opposition are that forward on defence. And AB never fell back, believed Umaga and Lomo would save the day, their weakness was exposed.
When I was a kid my heroe was (and still is) Christophe LaMaison (nicknamed) Titou. That day Titou Made a full house : scored a try, penalty drop goal and penalty kick. He played the match of his life.
notice that the 8 AB at 12:40 do a block (illegal) on the French 10 and that's a penalty, meaning no try, if the referee was doing his job the same way with the AB than with all the other teams... that's something that happen too often and often in favor of the AB (who don't even need that, they're strong enough) another example was McCaw cheating the whole match in the final 2011 and never getting called for it by the referee (it was played in NZ so...) (btw, France won the previous game (vs Wales) with a try including an offside pass that wasn't called by the ref, so... not blindly supporting the Blues...) rules n°1: never let Joubert referee for an important match of France...
France are the best team to watch, they focus on speed, ultra slick passing in the backs and basically want to run at the opposition, they and the All Blacks play the best Rugby to watch

Je suis jaloux ! Moi, j'ai vu le match sur une petite télé à la maternité (ma femme avait accouché la veille) et impossible de hurler ma joie, vu que mon fils aîné dormait à côté de moi... Une torture quoi ! LOL Un match exceptionnel, sans doute le plus beau match de coupe du monde (je le compare en intensité au match de foot France-Allemagne, Mondial 1982).
I remember getting up early as a kid to watch this match it broke many kiwi hearts that year and they did it again in 2007 you can never count out the French you don’t know what team will show up.. But NZ learned and then went on to win 2 world cups back to back
They spoiled the All Blacks party again in 2007, this time in a QF. France is a bogey team for the All Blacks. Even in the 2011 final, the All Blacks scraped it by one point...and some in France have said a little controversially too. France is the one game the All Blacks don't look forward too.
A thought for French Christophe Dominici N°11 who committed suicide 2 years ago, i hope he's proud from where he is of our team and gave us the winning spirit to hold the cup
RIP to Mr Lomuh and our loved Dominici, I had the chance to meet him and damn he was sweet and funky, always laughing, sad sad sad losses of great players and great persons 😔 This will always stay as the best rugby game I had the chance to see. Sure there are others but being french watching it a the day of the mariage of my cousin was mystical. The vibes were insane. Big out to our players and the Blacks, one team had to win but both made it FABULOUS 🙏🏽💯👌🏽

At the time France was almost nothing. No one expected France to win against the blacks in semi final ! With that team anything can happened. The french flair can make a game so unpredictable.

People were more normal size back then...apart from a certain All Black number 11.When they went ahead 24..10 it was game over,no way the French can come back,and then history happened.

This was similar to 2019 England beat the all blacks to then lose to a well prepared SA Here France we’re ready for the all blacks just to lose to Australia afterwards, you really do feel bad for a team that gives it their all just to fail at the last hurdle
