@@mrs.pizzareads I will never tire of the musical - it was a huge part of my romantic awakening as a teen - but the book Phantom has my whole heart. He's my problematic fave. 😁 It did take a while for me to warm up to him because he was so unlike I expected him to be, but once I did, I was caught for good.

@@mrs.pizzareads Taken from a couple journal entries I wrote over the summer: "Ruth Wilson's portrayal of Jane Eyre makes it clear that she's fond of Mr. Rochester, played by Toby Stephens. He's broody enough, but not as gruff as Ciaran Hinds' Mr. Rochester. Ruth Wilson and Samantha Morton are my fave Jane Eyres. Ruth Wilson's Jane Eyre is so crushed in that scene where the reader learns the truth about someone from Mr. Rochester's past. It's such a heartbreaking performance. It's also more subdued than Mia Wasikowska's reaction. So the scene in the book where Jane tells Mr. Rochester that she must go back to Gateshead b/c an ailing Mrs. Reed is asking for her -- it's more like a stage play. The tone is different compared to the TV and movie adaptations. I've seen the following in order of their release; the ones with asterisks are my faves: Joan Fontaine/Orson Welles (Margaret O'Brien is an adorable Adele) - 1943 Charlotte Gainsbourg/William Hurt -- 1996 Samantha Morton/Ciaran Hinds -- 1997* Ruth Wilson/Toby Stephens -- 2006* Mia Wasikowska/Michael Fassbender -- 2011*

@@Montie-Adkins I’m always game for a Dracula book! Added to the humongous TBR 😂 I actually have read Frankenstein (I can’t believe I forgot to add it to the list 🙄)but haven’t found any retelling/reimaginings that I LOVE, some that I like but nothing that rocks my world. I’m still on the hunt tho.

@@mrs.pizzareads What I was surprised with on Frankenstein was that the dumb monster was a Hollywood invention where in the book he is intelligent and seemingly cultured. The tv show Penny Dreadful was closer to the original material.
