The price increase in Japan is mainly to do with emissions testing and local registration. Every import into Japan requires emissions testing which adds a substantial amount to the cost of the vehicle. AC, although standard was also a relatively expensive component, hence the big price difference...
William, That is one cracking Cooper but as you said they are getting rare to find in this condition even from Japan, This video must have taken some time to research and film but well worth all the effort you put in to it. A big thanks from me and top job! Cheers Dave
Cheers Dave, much appreciated. It took a few hours to get the footage and again a few hours to edit :) research wise took a few days as trying to find details on import cars is near on an impossible task
Of course you can, I collected all my data and filmed in bitesized pieces. I'd be more than happy to do the same for pllloow :D I loved making this film
Love it! Fantastic cars, I think i'd go for the same year as yours, just because they have fuel injection so probably better for daily use. Really want one for my first car!
hey Callum, mini's are fantastic, i had one for my first car and had such adventures. the later minis SPi & MPi are better for motorway driving and everyday use but the older carb'd models can be made equally as reliable and comfortable. but mini for your first car, sure gets my vote.
In Japan you have to have a flair in your vehicle like a breakdown warning signal. I think if you breakdown you light the flare and help is sent to your location. I'm pretty sure its a legal requirement over there.
Great video William. I've got a mini john cooper le in brooklands green with just under 38000 miles on the clock. She is immaculate check out my twitter feed @Renbeer to see my Mog the Mini at historic Cardington hangars, home of the r101 airship.
The automatic is actually a nice car to drive, many of the Japanese mini's of this age were auto's I believe. Some people can only drive an Auto for various reasons. i would gladly have an Auto injection mini, i have driven two and both have been great to be completely honest. However, with that said i do enjoy driving the manual mini more.
To be fair the automatics are a great driving car, and some people need them for other reasons too. It's a shame you clicked off so early in the video as I put alot of effort into making this short film .
