i was 10 when i saw this game on tv.. watching fiji play made me love rugby and got me interested in it.. now im playing rugby for my club in newcastle, england.. I LOVE RUGBY
The stuff and the tournament of legends as if already written on script ! Grew up in the 90s in Fiji when HK 7s coincided with Children's Sunday and then later in my 20s seeing a team like this absolutely on fire on the field at the the holy grail of 7s in HK! Now in my 40s just reliving this epic game all over again as if it were the first time watching live on screen back in our living room at home ! Love love love Fijian flair ❤❤❤
I watch this video once every year. It’s 2021 and it’s like I’m watching it for the first time. The Fiji team was on point, and the commentators were on fire. The greatest 7s game of all time.
This was a good Fiji team and most of them were in their 30’s vs a upcoming young bloods who went on to do some amazing rugby for New Zealand and some onto the All Blacks.Good to see the now Wales Coach Wayne Pivac on the coaching bench for Fiji. Some good memories this.Vinaka World Rugby & NZ for always being a good rival and bringing out the best for Fiji..The intercept that lead to the Serevi try was a mirror of what happened years later in Dubai also vs New Zealand and the back pass by Tuwai to Mulevoro
Keith Quinn and Nigel Starmer Smith...two Legendary Commentators for the world of 7s Rugby. To hear them go out of their way to learn the proper pronunciation of the names of the rugby players is a true act of Class. That is Respect for the players and Respect for the Game. They took their jobs Very seriously, and it showed.
Watching this just took me down memory lane. All family members and neighbors came home and watched the game. Dad brought a multimedia home just for the occasion. Village 1 was invented at our verandah, everyone was crazy screaming and cheering all throughout Fiji's game...Best MEMORY EVERRRRR!!!
Oh this brings back such wonderful and good memories. The whole country celebrated that night when they won. My neighbours then were running on the streets banging their pots and some others were driving around sounding their horns like crazy! lol. Oh, what a night that was
The Stuff Of Legends! This was Fiji's Dream team then. With the vast amount of experience shared between players, there's nothing more for the coach to do then just train them to fitness. A team put together in less than 2 weeks to prepare for this World Cup.😮✌Every pass, tackle, side-step or tactical moves each individual makes.....is EPIC! Mouth- opener....just woooww!! 😮😮✌This coach is most relaxed coach as far as 7s is concerned😀✌LEGENDS😮😀❤✌
17 years later I’m still watching this Memorable Melrose Cup Final . I was 11 and I remember all the villagers (Vacalea,Nakaleka, Kadavu) was gathered in one house the only house with a TV to watch this game. ☺️👊🏾
"Running skills"/"Classic Fijian Style Brilliance!"/high leaping/Fijian rugby at it's very best/greater skill/instinctive skill/brilliantly executed/7's which can only be seen in it's finest expression" etc etc...........It is breathtaking to listen to Commentators use of amazing descriptive words that elevates natural ability to another level for this wonderful game of 7's Rugby. Thank you Fiji.............I love you full speed!..haha
This isnt the first time ive commented on this video, but looking back at this team, theres so much SPEED and PACE considering some of the members, its unbelievable.
Amazing depth in the Fijian side, with William Ryder and Vilimone Delasau in the reserves.Amazing talent in probably the best assembled Fijian World Cup squad of all time.
From a kiwi. Fiji best sevens team in world. Nz best 15 side rugby team ever. Serevi best 7 player ever. From a west aucklander. The mighty all blacks rule. My hearts with both these teams
One of the greatest Fiji World cup 7s team ever assembled: 1. Semisi Naevo 2. Apolosi Satala 3. Viliame Satala 4. Ifereimi Rawaqa 5. Jone Daunivucu 6. Waisele Serevi 7. Vilimoni Delasau 8. Marika Vunibaka 9. Nasoni Roko 10. William Ryder 11. Sireli Bobo 12. Neumi Nanuku When you got the Fiji bench strong like the likes of Ryder, Roko, Delasau, Rawaqa and Nanuku.
When it comes to world sevens rugby........Only one country comes to mind, FIJI. Just like football is to Brazil. Gods gift to the friendly Islanders.AMEN! U ROCK!
1992 Olympics in Barcelona Television was new to Fiji and I was a little boy 2 things that I remember the archer lighting the Olympic flame and all the talk surrounding the “Dream Team” this was the moment when Fiji assembles its very own Dream Team that weekend in Hong Kong there was not a single team that stood a chance against our Dream Team
Always give credit where its due..mainly to the person facing public criticism for putting this team together for only 2 weeks. He's Wayne Pivac. He took his team and won the Melrose for the country. Look at his 15s team prior to 2007 Rugby world cup. His squad beat Wales and took Fijii to the quarter finals. Tabua just accompanied the team on RWC week because Wayne had resigned.
Isa watching this again in 2020 while the world is in lock down mode.l had an old wooded bodied 23in tv and a 14in.half the kailomas in matei were on the porch and the ladies watching inside...screeming every time our boys scored😕😕
Can remember watching this at home at the time and being on feet clapping fijis 2nd and 3rd try.. Glorious.. Gutted that I was in hk in 04, fiji weren't very good and 06 when they lost in a thriller to England.. Saw them a week later in singapore hammer everyone but it wasn't the same. 7s is hk and 7s is fiji.. met serevi that weekend and he is every bit the legend off the field that he was on..
i was only 16 at that time and i cant still remember it like it all happened just yesterday! watching this game in our 14 inch TV with more than 15 people in the house! No place like Fiji! Go Fiji Go!!
the class of 1990 was better..incidently they thrashed a star studded NZ side in the final. Delasau...as good as he was was too individualistic..dancing his way through tackles and almost always spilling the ball..
Fiji's line up is clearly way better than NZ. Those fijans have so much experience and they deserve to win that year. NZ team was too young and most players are not experienced sevens players...but great job they went to the finals anyways. Wayne Pivac was on the free ride with Fiji hahaha serevi was the coach all along and pivac didnt even say anything in their half time talks...haha
Man I remember feeling so happy the next day when Fiji won, so many big names in the Fijian team. This game could have gone a lot different though if Orene Ai'i wasn't out injured, he was unstoppable at the time
I just hope that whichever players have been chosen to represent the country for the world cup in Moscow...........well good luck to you guys and hope that you will make FIJI proud by at least reach the final..........not like the 2009 world cup where you were bundled out of the quarter finals..........anyways............GOD BLESS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I'll always be a proud FIJI rugy fan no matter the criticism.......GO FIJI GO!!!!!!!!!!
The truth about this game is....this was the most unfit team in the world cup...Satala said most of the players were past their prime and injury ridden...they were written of as unfit...Satala said it was experience that got them thru.
