Shadow is way younger than Sonic Yes he’s been capsulated for 50 years, but was he actually living? Aging? No. So how old is Shadow? Maria was 12 when she died and sent Shadow to earth . Shadow was created many years after Maria so he’s no more than age 12
im sure its 3 years or 4 because after the classics there is probably 1 or 2 years later because amy said she has not seen sonic for a long time also sonic forces there was a 6 month time gap so my best guess is that classic sonic is 13/14 adventure era sonic 15 dark age sonic 15 meta era sonic 16/17 sonic frontiers 17 but this all is just something i thought of

To be fair, sega wanted to establish that ALL adventures of sonic (from 1 to frontiers) happened in the time-lapse of ONE YEAR, so it makes sense that they're not that different in age
@@M0ffMaidretcons are a thing, and not rare in sonic, i mean, the archie comics used to be canon, keyword on used to, also sonics own birthday from generations got retconned by the time eater (the universe was fricked up and then restarted by sonic running) they eventually got tired of people speculating sonics "real age" so they changed all of the character's bios to no longer say their ages, Sonic's used to say 15 as usual, tho a lil funfact is that boom happens 2 years later, its a different timeline thatd canon to the original, that is to say, everything that happens in boom is semi-canon, or as better understood, canon until proven otherwise, this is not speculation ans was stated by the writers
The idea that all of Sonic happened in just 1 year really makes no sense given the fact that little planets mechanics mean that there is already at least a year between Sonic CD and Sonic 4. Tho I guess we can't actually use Sonic's age anymore given that he no longer has an official one.
Almost all Sonic cast Is minor. Only Rouge, vainilla and vector have More than 18 I don't count Shadow because he has a tecnically a teenager mental age.

if you think about it, shadow was apparently already grown when he was created, meaning he didn’t have a childhood really, meaning, besides his 50 years stuck, he is actually the youngest of the Sonic cast, but, depending on how you look at it, he is either the second oldest currently (egg man being first) or the youngest, even younger than cream
My head-canon is that Sonic is 18-21 because you can see in Frontiers that Sonic is more mature and has a deeper voice than the past games. I think this is showing that Sonic has grown more and is matured over time

It would at least make sense for Knuckles to stay the same because it states he is 18 in the Sonic Heroes manual, but I can understand where your coming from with Amy and Tails. In my head-canon, Tails is 12 and Amy is 1 or 2 years younger than Sonic.
I like my headcanon better, classic is around 12 and modern is 16, it makes more sense why they look so different to me, you wouldn't change THAT much in one year
This implies the events of Sonic Heroes, Sonic And The Black Knight, and Sonic Colors all happen in the span of a single year, alongside several dozen over adventures. It's not impossible, just really weird to think about.
Amy was in 8 in sonic cd and in sonic heroes she is turned 12 and was 15 in sonic heroes. So in my head cannon sonic was 11 in sonic cd and met Miles 4 years later.
Simple. Classic was originally 15, it was reconned when the Modern redesigns happened in 1998, he was then made to be 11 in his Classic years and 15 in Modern. Passage of time had become very prevalent during the Adventure Era (playing a significant role in SA2, Heroes, Battle, Shadow and 06) and we had significant gaps in-between games. One line that is usually ignored in the conversation is a G.U.N. agent in 06 saying Shadow has been with them for years although that doesn't add up with everything else we know or any on-screen characterization so we can shrug it off as the agent having been misinformed. There's a 5 month time jump in-between SA2 and Heroes, Sonic celebrates his birthday once with Chip (one of the photos of them shows this) and once in Generations. Sonic Forces has a 6 month time jump after Sonic gets captured and the IDW comics are a month after Forces. From Sonic Adventure all the way to Dream Team (latest thing in the timeline currently) there have been AT THE VERY LEAST A MINIMUM of 3 years, on-screen and in canon material. This is the non-negotiable stuff, it doesn't matter one bit what some SEGA dude said in an interview or podcast or what the website does or does not say. What's shown in the actual material itself is the only undisputed fact. TL:DR - Sonic is currently 18 years old minimum. Amy is 15, Tails is 11, Knuckles is 19, Rouge is 21, Vector is 23, Epsio is 19 etc etc etc. Essentially, if you currently wanna know how old the Sonic cast is presently just take their Adventure Era ages and add a minimum of 3 years to them.

The Sonic Channel website actually removed the Ages so technically he has no Age. But thats not the answer we want 1. The ages have been retconned a few times. eg Sonic Adventure has changed the ages of most of the characters. so depending on where youre starting from it would change 2. Theres been multiple instances where Sonic has celebrated his birthday like Sonic Runners, Sonic Generations and a few non game sources 3. In the games we know multiple years have passed due to the multiple times weve seen little planet so even if he was 16 back in, say Sonic 3 hed have a good 2 or 3 more years at the least based on that + his birthday in gens 4. you can generally track years passing in the franchise via in game dates and Yearly astronomical events with The ARK and even just using seasons as measures of time. In all cases you add a few years on his head easily. in total ranging anywhere from like 3 to 7 years added, plus in game timeskips like forces and 06 add to the count as well
So sonic goes from arguably planetary to "i can beat goku" in roughly 1-2 years? Damn that power cliff is crazy Edit: Goku has never fought someone on par with THE END, perfect dark gaia, or even solaris, who has to be attacked in the past/present/future at the same time in order to be defeated......goku gets clapped by modern sonic
IMO he went from 12-18… he was 12 from sonic 1-3&k 13 in mania,14 in superstars, 15 from sa1-colors, 16 in gens-forces 17 after the 6 month timeskip in forces - End of IDW, 18 from frontiers onward
Maybe we don’t think he ages because periodically he looks the same but it could be because he’s reached his physical maturity for hedgehogs and doesn’t change much anymore
In my head, it always makes more sense to me to say that the original characters are 4 years younger than the neo characters. Since in older manuals it was said that Amy was 8 but then when the cast was redesigned it was stated that she was 12.
I always considered classic being from another dimension being the reason they’re different ages. It also explains the drastically differing continuities between games.
When you think about all the crazy fanart of sonic, it’s an under age character. But I always knew that even classic sonic was already 15, and modern sonic was basically no more than a year older. I always went with him just going to a new style, not by him growing up. And I like the generations lore where both versions are the same dimensions but different timelines. But then they had completely messed it up in Forces by having it where they are from different dimensions
But since they retconned the age of modern sonic you can already imagine they probably made classic sonic younger because of his classic and yknow more kiddy look
This actually makes sense because the classic era ends in 1998 and the modern/adventure era begins in 1999 (Which is when sonic adventure for the Dreamcast comes out)
To be fair if Classic Sonic being 16 at a later date was retconned it’s safe to say Classic Sonic being 15-16 was also retconned as that was most likely stated as a consistency check for the first statement Sonic being 15 in heroes and 16 in generations while a distinct age difference between his classic and Modern (and Adventure) eras being more than just a physical and stylistic change at this point is like a clear showing of them being different ages. But the Classic Sonic era ages are unknown due to the retcons
Sonics adventures span across 4 years. In one year, he turned from Classic to Adventure, Adventure to 06/Unleashed to Lost World, LW to Forces, forces,metal virus and the green lady (I don't know her name) span one year and Frontiers is the start of a new year as signified by stars falling from the sky which means a new year in some cultures. Sonic's age is kept the same throughout the medias, although it is implied that he ages.
In an attempt to fix the aging stuff and the timeline sega removed all the ages so they don’t have official ages anymore but some are assumed to be adults and others are still assumed to be kids

I always heard Classic Sonic was 16 and Classic Knuckles was 15, then it was retconned in Sonic Adventure. I saw somewhere online it said that Sonic was 15, Knuckles was 16, Tails was 8, and Amy was 12. So when I saw the ages in Sonic Heroes, I already knew those ages. But it gave us the ages for all the other characters too. I don't know when, but I think at some point in later years they changed Rouge from age 17 to 18. Sonic Generations SHOULD say Sonic is now 16 except you'd think they'd specify that. Even The Murder of Sonic is said to not really be canon but it's a weird choice to revolve it around a character's birthday then. Even then they don't say Amy's supposed age. Usually what this means is that they're avoiding saying the age so they don't have to officially change the age in the bio. It's like how in shows like Simpsons or Family Guy they can experience the same holidays over and over for the sake of having a holiday-themed episode without actually acknowledging a year literally passing by. I think that's the case here. Sonic is, technically, still 15. And since Classic Sonic can't be 16, and there's a bio saying "15-16", you can assime that he's probably also 15 just his events happened first and he looks different because of commercial reasons that only the audience can actually see.
Kinda seems Eggman is facing a losing battle. Hes supposedly middle aged going against a teenager. If u consider our life spans as humans, hes going to die/be physically unable to fight in about 20 years tops. Thats around when sonic would reach his prime. The height of his strength, while eggman is at his lowest.
I have a rather simple reasoning as to why classic Sonic and modern Sonic are years apart. In SA1 Amy has an apartment and has been living there for long enough to be bored of it. Are you really gonna tell me that Amy got a job, earned enough money to at least rent a relatively nice apartment, get all the essentials she needs, and live there long enough to be bored of it, all in under a year? Not to mention station square was destroyed in SA1, and is completely rebuilt in SA2, which had to have taken at least a couple of months. And forces cannonicly takes place over six months. I think classic Sonic is twelve years old. I can’t actually remember why I think he’s twelve, I just do.
I think that they probably just didn't think of the modern stuff and all that back then, so they established ages which are similar to the ones we know for them nowadays.
Here's why this is such a mess: (Truth): these designs change were just that, *designs.* Its not supposed to be *small sonic growing taller,* its just character design. They're *not supppsed to be two different* Sonics, just the same Sonic with different *art directions.* Naturally every single games was not supposed to be too far apart in the Universe timeline. (Problem): Sonic Generations came. Good game but accidentally or not, it broke this rule I talked above. Which caused this whole messy confusion and broke the timeline.
Sonic's age from the classics was retconned, infact now all ages aside from shadow and tails have been retconned. But the way Amy talks about Sonic in adventure 1 implies it has been a long time, years possibly.
I like to think about my headcanon where Classic Sonic's age is 12 during CD since Amy apparently is 8 during the classics. This might not be true but I still like to think about it.
I mean Sonic Heroes' ages in the manual are completely all over the place, but yeah Classic Sonic's definitely not as younger than we thought. Guess Sonic just grows fast, which fits his character

In my head canon, when sonic starts his adventures through sonic one, cd, sonic 2 and 3, he is around 10 or 12 years old, he grows up in between sonic superstars and sonic adventure one.
Plus I’m pretty sure forces has two 6 month long time skips meaning an extra year? Also I think it was confirmed the metal virus saga in the comics was a year so that’d mean he’d have to be 18 by frontiers
Unrealeted note here but here is how i like to think how the classical time line goes: S1, S2, S3/&K and SCD Reason why CD is last?: He just looks pissed. And I'm pretty sure in one of the prorotypes, Tails' sprites were found by lost-bit.
Modern Sonic and the og classic Sonic from 90’s are two different sonics in their own universe while the classic Sonic from generations is a younger modern Sonic
