I worked for quite a while trying to get my stock gauges to read and register temps and pressure but I had no luck! I decided to install a Dakota Digital RTX system and couldn't be happier. The colors and fonts match the original gauges but the accuracy and features are next level

Use a label maker to mark each wire. A common font and label width will look nicer than painter's tape. Also adding two electrical buses. One for a ground, one for power.

I used the VHX from Dakota Digital and they came with some of the sensors and a speed sensor and all you need to do is calibrate and all set. For tach I was able to use the stock Cummins one and choose the 4 cylinder setting. And please lose the wire splicers now that you are wiring everything up lol ... good stuff keep up them videos coming

This is actually, pretty cool. That wiring though... good lord. lol

it tidied up decently well. There comes a point where you just go, well that's a mess and cover it back up! ha ha

Haha... Your gas gauge was the only one to work, and it always shows empty. I had teal colored Dakota digitals on my teal and white 72 K5. Once my new purchase 74 K5 shows up, I am putting in my second set.

I’m digging the battery’s and switch pro in the back. So much room and beats crawling around in the dash.
@MerricksGarage
@MerricksGarage 2 года назад
totally. Next time I have to rewire a build I am putting the fuse box where I can actually get to it! The wheel well in the back is perfect for the batteries, and it honestly cleans up a ton of space up front, Plus easier to get to it!

Gorgeous looking setup! I love what Dakota has done with this RTX system, much better than their other spaceship looking stuff.

exactly. The older stuff just looked so out of place. This is perfect. I am looking forward to driving at night (once I get my headlights fixed properly!)

Doing a '85 c20 now with dual fuel tanks....which is different than the "normal tan wire" at pin #7. On dual tanks....verify pink/black & pink/white are connected through switch valve (underside of truck on frame) amd use Pink wire at Pin 7. Hopefully, this saves someone an extra day like it took me to trace & find 😂

Merrick I baught the Dakota gauges for my 1969 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 and I absolutely love them!! I will most likely be getting another Dakota gauge cluster for my 1981 GMC 1Ton 4x4 also sometime very soon!! I just got done getting the suspension all set up correctly so that I didn’t have all old saggy leaf springs!! And of course I went with no one better than OFF ROAD DESIGN and Stephen Watson!! I absolutely love there stuff and when I order parts from him they no exactly what I need and have never let me down!! I did go with there front leaf springs that they make so that I would have much better flex in my 1TON!! There was a total of 8 leaf springs in the front pack that they sent me!! It definitely rides a lot better than it used to for sure!! Not as bouncy as it was before I had changed the front out!! And the rear I went with there 2”1/2” rear shackle flip kit just like I had done on my 1969 Chevy 1Ton!! I absolutely love watching your builds as I have also been doing builds of my own for the past several years also!! They just don’t build them like they used to and that is why I definitely love the old school vehicles much better than the new ones!!! Remember keep up all the hard work buddy and I am definitely weighting to see what you end up working on next!!!
