This had a great selection of commercials that I could totally relate to; part of my childhood, I saw these probably hundreds of times for the most part... Fun trip down memory lane!
same here, except I don't remember the commercials looking so old lol.... also unlike today, I think in the 70s they ran the same ones for at least a few years, and sometimes they changed things a little but still kept the same jingle. Like the Frito song (never could do that one today, it would be called racist lol) And the Hawian punch and tootsie pop ads, changed a little, the cartoon got better over the years.
I don’t know which America you grew up in, but I remember the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and MLK, the Vietnam War tearing us apart, the Manson murders, the Cuyahoga river burning, smog from leaded gas everywhere, Watergate and Nixon the crook’s resignation, and the economy crashing, all before I started my period. I suppose you were watching commercials while I read the newspapers.
I miss one thing and one thing only about the 70's...the actual, genuine & authentic musical skills & abilities put forth by actual, genuine and authentic music artists. And of course the albums and the live shows.
So, 'are you reeling in the years,' @@revelskid..? Same here. I'll be 64 later this year and can't believe how fast it seems time went by. It's video's like this one that make RU-vid such a great entertainment option. So much of our past is available with the click of the keyboard.
Is it weird this actually brought tears to my eyes? Boy, do I wish we could rewind the clock and go back to simpler times. The world is so awful these days 😢
I often say that to myself. The ironic thing: Life was pretty darn tough back then! But the good outweighed the bad, most of the time. And the world had what it no longer seems to have: Hope. You thought things would get better. I wonder if they still could, nowadays.
@@taracollins5597 I wonder the same thing. I often wonder if this is even fixable. Sure…turn the US red but what about society? The problem with that is there will still be criminals in our government. Maybe not as many but money corrupts a lot of things. Humanity has some serious heart and soul issues and how do you fix that? The thing I miss the most about days past is that people interacted more. We talked, we spent time together face to face. If you ask me technology/social media has been the death of that which has negatively sent ripples out into society.
I agree with you, I sometimes wish,I mean a lot of the time, I wish I could relive those times. I'm 67, and I can still remember everything said in most of them.
@@paulh6591 I always thought the Oscar Mayer little boy in the commercial was sooo cute!!! I remember singing that jingle, was definitely very popular back then... Notice how no commercials for prescription drugs were ever on.. Now that's all there is that & tons of Insurance commercials... Lots of sicker people now unfortunately
Back when I was ten and watching these commercials on TV, they really didn't mean much to me. Now, some 45 years later, I am very happy to see them. Makes me wish I could go back to those days and have my family the way we were. Mom, Dad and my little sister. Hope you are resting peacefully, Dad. You did a great job with us!
Thank was one of the nicest, honest, and most well written comment I've seen on You Tube. Thank you. I am a 70's kid myself, and while the 60's commercials are before me, many of the others I've seen and like you at the time they were not important, just wanted to see my shows. Now I each one I remember brings back a different memory, story, or adventure. I miss my family so much. I now have the disease that took my Mom, and it's so hard to be alone when your illness consumes you. But these do remind me of a time much better, and so much more peaceful.
I graduated in 1981,growing up in the 60's and 70's was so unbelievable. We would be outside every day ..We thought it was great ringing someone's doorbell and running.Such great times,I tell my kids now what we did and they can't undestand how awesome it was...
The youth of today will never❤ get to experience how much simpler life was. People were much happier. I am 60 and remembered every single one of theses commercials. Makes me sad what our country has become. So divided by hate.
Except the actor was not a native American who did this commercial. I won the Ecological Performance Award (EPA) in 5th grade NJ for an ecology poster depicting pollution in several forms. I was 12 that year, I also cried when our Principal Duncan awarded me with a certificate, a cup with the ECOLOGY logo and a $5 coupon McDonald's. I was sitting in the corner in "time out" for being disruptive when the Principal came to the class. It's moments like those when I wished I had access to a firearm. Sad but true
If you would have told me at 9 years old how much I'd treasure these "annoying" commercials so many decades later, I'd have thought you were crazy. CANNOT believe how old these look--or how old I look now, too.
Amen! My daughter thinks I'm crazy because I enjoy commercials. These do look so old, and they may be labeled 60's and 70's but most of these ran into the 80s and 90s. I'm just about 40 and remember most of these. The only commercials I hate are the Cadbury Bunny Egg and the Hershey Kiss where the kiss rings the bells... She doesn't understand why I dislike them 🤣🤣 Those two are not in here, but I have seen them since I was a kid, and I'm over them. Give them a rest and allow me to enjoy them YEARS after they have finished playing. 🤦🏻♀️
@@raymondhopwood9393The commercials showed an innocence where people treated each other with kindness and respect, The country is fueled now by hate and division.
I couldn’t stop smiling the whole way through. I haven’t seen these commercials in decades but they are so fresh in my memory. It’s like I never left the 60’s and 70’s.
Omg, I remember all of these Except for the gum ball one. You forgot a big one. „Antny, sic, sound of Running shoes through the cobblestone streets of the North End of Boston. Every Wednesday Antny Matinetti where he‘s tired out getting to his mamma‘s kitchen. Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day!
@Margaret We had three POTUS back then. I would almost hug them all just to temporary go back in time (primarily to see and be with the relatives and friends long time passed).
spartygirl121 You sound just like my late sister, Vicki (may God rest her soul). She was always talking about how she couldn't remember half of what she did a few days or even a week before, but she would always remember the lyrics to her favorite songs from her teenage years, especially "Hotel California" by the Eagles.
I can remember 90 to 95 percent of these commercials from 40 years ago but can only remember a handful of commercials on tv today. What a great trip down memory lane.
@@garryquiggins8183 Sad thing to say, those 3 or 4 channels probably had more to watch than the hundreds of channels we have now. My stepdad constantly changes channels on his Hulu due to hardly anything decent to watch, but yet back in the day seemed like better things to watch, I just pull up stuff on the internet from back in the 70's and 80's to watch.
Except, we see in them the rise of our modern complications - case in point, hiring an Italian to pretend to be an American Indian, in commercials that blamed the rise in litter on the public, instead of the lack of recycling options for the "new packaging", which was rapidly replacing glass and steel containers, for which there already existed, at the time, functional programs. Since then.. we still have no real, consistent, programs for these things, and the amount of litter, and stuff ending up in landfills, just keeps going up, while recycling programs are continually poor, ineffective, and rely on third parties (instead of, as before, the original manufacturers, who would have washed, and reused their glass bottles, and the like). So many thing wrong with, and complicated, in the current world, all stemming from, "It would be cheaper for us, the manufacturer/state/etc. to lay blame on the consumer/public, and just not spend the time or effort to offer a solution to the problems caused, along side with the 'progress' we are making." Then again, it all comes down to what you define as "progress", doesn't it? Because, that word means very different things to a hippy, generalist liberal, a 'progressive', a Democrat, a libertarian, a centrist, a conservative, an evangelical, or a Republican. All of them, and others, which overlaps, on some issues, but so, so, different in what they deem to be solutions to problems. (The political parties being listed because.. ultimately, even when they include people from one or more of the categories, they are often far more concerned about the "politics" of a solution than its effectiveness, plausibility, or costs. I.e., even if its costs more than expected, doesn't work, ignores the people its supposed to help, and is completely ineffective, at least its politically feasible... Sort of like.. blaming the public for the increase of non-recyclable trash, instead of demanding the producers of said products to produce a recycling solution.).
With all respect, the purpose of the ad was to encourage people to put trash where it belongs, be that a garbage can or a recycling bin. The trash along the highways and in rivers didn't end up there because there wasn't an appropriate bin of some sort to put it into. As a child in the 60s I supplemented my income by picking up lots of recyclable glass bottles from the side of the road and turning them in to collect the deposit.
Wish respect, the evidence says otherwise. It was promoted *by* companies *as* they ended their internal recycling programs and ramped up production of "disposable packaging". Its a bit hard to claim that it wasn't intended to, at minimum, redirect blame, when the people producing it where "specifically" the same ones that where creating the products that produced the most non-recyclable trash. This is in fact straight from wiki: "The Keep America Beautiful narrow focus on litter, and indeed construction of the modern concept of litter, is seen as an attempt to divert responsibility from industries that manufacture and sell disposable products to the consumer that improperly disposes of the related non-returnable wrappers, filters, and beverage containers." In other words, the organization itself was specifically founded to "distract" the public. That *some* recycling programs still existed at the time doesn't change the fact that "most" of the stuff being newly produced was throw away, non-recyclable, and the campaign left people thinking it was "their" responsibility to clean up the resulting mess, not the manufacturers, for failing to create a program to recycle the new products. This is sometimes termed "greenwashing".
It's amazing how many of those commercials I actually still knew the lyrics to the T after not hearing them in over 40 years...growing up in the 70's was awesome!!
Yes, and women could be women and it was okay. It was okay for a woman to want to be attractive to men and to get married and be a wife, a mother, and a homemaker as opposed to today where your politics define beauty in a beauty contest as opposed to your looks. If a man admires a woman today he is objectifying her as opposed to just being attracted to her and she dresses and makes herself up so she is attractive to men. That used to be okay. Much simpler times back then for sure.
As someone who grew up in the 60's & 70's... I remember every one of these almost word for word.... so much better than the commercials these days..... Also... all the wonderful talents that are no longer with us.....
I grew up in the 70's and this was my favorite decade! I remember all these commercials and this brought me right back to that great time in my life. I wish it was still like those great days. Times have changed drastically and for the worse!
I'm only 60 but I'm with you on that! Life was perfectly fun and wonderful in our childhood...and maybe thats what happened? We had it so good most of us took it for granted and overlooked all the sacrifices our grandparents and great grandparents had to give for us to have it so good? We had the world by the balls and nothing could stop us. Besides we weren't paying attention obviously coz now look at us!
The commerical with the Indian with a tear in his eye when trash is throw on ground is the most impressionable commerical todate in my life. I have all my life thought twice about throwing trash out the car window from this commerical.
Sure but my old man would throw you out to go get it. Then get that back side when you got home. Unless you did it in front of others, then it was after you picked it up, apologize then in front of them, and when you got home. We ain't the same.
Not sure I agree. Yes we are a lot older and unhealthier, but the computers, internet and cell phones has made life so much more convenient. The fact that any information or products can be obtained 24 hours 7 days a week is simply amazing.
@@davidr4523 Murder, drugs, not being able to trust our leaders... I think that's what people mean by 'the good ole days.' The morality back then was so much different. Everyone seemed happy & tolerant of each other. We celebrated & made fun of our differences instead of using them as tools against each other. No one smiles in commercials or on tv now. People have made being happy something to be looked down on or ridiculed

I was such a young child when these commercials aired, and yet I can remember all of them. This was back when Madison Avenue was given at least 60 seconds to make their mark on America, and boy did they. I couldn't tell you one ad from nowadays that even comes close to these wonderful productions to sell a product, or that I can remember. This was truly a wonderful selection of ads that captured a poignant time in America for me.
If only John Kennedy had been able to do what he talked about doing. Imagine if he'd been able to cull out the secret agencies he was so opposed to! Now they've almost completely taken over the world! And they thirst for even more power and money To hell with all of us just give them their power and money! I believe that truth and good will win out over power and evil.
Amazing that todays ad men forgot how these great jingles can resonate and be remembered for your entire life. What an era, so lucky to have been a part of it!!!
I remember these commercials very well. It brings back so many memories! Those were the days. I am so blessed to be born in the year of 1964. The sad part is we can never bring those good old days back again, but we can always reminisce. keep showing these vids.
"I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony" That old Coca Cola commercial did it for me. I remembered it so clearly even though it was from the early 70's. I was born and raised in Jamaica and it's great to see this fantastic Ad again after so many decades. Brought back great nostalgic childhood memories for me. Still one of my all time favorites.
And the Seekers made a song of the same name that is priceless but without the reference to Coke. I was surprised to discover the Coke jingle came out before the Seekers song. The Seekers made a few great songs. This is one of my favorites.
@violamateo Nice song indeed, but for me it NEVER reached the same level as that UNIQUE Coke song that made my nerves tingle and my heart running like a motor!!!! 😍💕💕💕
What a freakin' great time machine! Seeing these nostalgic commercials makes one feel blessed to have lived through these periods of life, especially compared to today's world.
When we played OUTSIDE with our ACTUAL friends and knew that when it started to get dark, we better get home before the street lights came on and we sat at a table for dinner🙂

The 60's, 70's & 80's...the goldilocks era of American History. How blessed we were to grow up during that time. When times were simply...better. Greatly missed.
@@timothycreamer8610 So nice to know I'm not alone in that feeling. I'm trying not to be a generational snob. But they were, IMO, truly the best of times. I grew up in Montreal in that era, and the TV, music, and people in general were whimsical. I still refer to those three decades as the 'Holy Trinity of Times'.
It was better back then. Today every child's weekly routine is scheduled hardcore. Back in the 70's I would wake up in July at 7 AM, have breakfast, leave home to explore the neighborhood, go home at noon for lunch, and be home at 6 PM for dinner. As a part of the first generation raised on television, I remember each and every one of these. Our highest aspirations were to own the right household and snack foods. The highlight of our week was going to McDonald's on Friday nights, 'cause my modern working Mom was too tired to cook. Boy how expectations have changed over time. The advertisers make us feel like well, being middle class isn't good enough. Enjoy the nostalgic look back at my younger years and yes, I would like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony!
Yes, Friday nights were a great treat because Mom would bring home McDonald's! And it stayed an occasional thing, not a daily thing, and we didn’t get obese back then.

I'm 55, and watching the entire video, i still remember many of the jingles and dialogues. What a time to be a kid and television was so much fun. A time when they were commercials and not 'Ads' and everyone even enjoyed the commercials just as much as the programing.
Love these classic commercials, couldn't help but sing along with most of them (surprisingly I remembered the words). How I wish I could turn back the hands of time and stay there, great memories
Love the old commercials they were the greatest. And Geico commercials with Maxwell the Pig, the cave men, the Gecko lizard…..they were hilarious and very entertaining. Not today, though, there are very …..how can I say it, boringly. I don’t watch any commercials today, I refuse to be bothered by them, I turned the TV to another channel and that’s it. I guess nothing is good today not even music!!! The music I listen to in 2024 is from 1999 and back. Nothing beats the good old music with great artists and musicians who were icons of great music in great decades.
