Great Video!!!! I learned tons!!! I have a 66 Bug with square on one side and round on the other. I also learned the square one was after market ( hollow handle) Watching this video inspired me to get another set of matching square original handles and swap them out to be uniform. Thanks! Keep up the great work!!!!
Hey, i must say i love your videos, either here in Mexico they are very useful for me as tips or tutorials to make my "vocho" (as we call the bugs right here) work and look better and be totally functional, i must say you should get here to Mexico to search some original Parts for classic VW, they are a lot, and with the value between the US Dollar and the Mexican Peso would be extremly Cheap to get some good and rare stuff. Greetings!
I need to rebuild my 67 bug handle, and I can't figure out how to remove the "paddle" from the shaft where the spring is clipped around it. I would like to take the "paddle" off so I create a sand mold and pour a new one, with some thickness to it. If it works out I might start selling them. The spring comes together in the middle with a 90 degree bend against the bottom of the paddle, pushing it back into the default position. Do you have a video showing how to take it all apart?
Great vid, Chris! I have a ‘62. Heard a noise, something dropped down inside the door. It won’t move the latch enough, now. Didn’t see anything like it in your vid, inside the handle’s moving part. Now, I’ll be able to take the handle off & look. Q: will passenger non-locking handle fit on driver’s side?
I have a '58 beetle, when removing the driver door handle, will I have to unattach it from the mechanism inside the door? Possibly make another video for the late 50s beetle owners?
@@classicvwbugs But the handle has to connect to the mechanism inside the door somehow, right? I'm a very technical person and just want to make sure I get it done right the first time. This is my first VW, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible.
@@classicvwbugs There is a little piece of metal sticking out if the bottom of the door handle and it's keeping me from pulling the handle out. The piece of metal is from the inside of the handle and I can't push it back inside the handle. Any suggestions?
@@ratrodpunk87 It is just a small lip to hold it into place on the door, just pull the handle a bit and wiggle, it should free it up away from the door.
That rubber 'hat' is a good idea-- cant the original be stripped and rechromed? Myself if I was restoring one it would be nice to keep as many original parts as possible
Do you ever have a problem with late handles, after market parts? got a set and the section where the screw hole is, is not long enough, so the screw holes in the door are in the wrong place, thinking of filing them into oblongs, unless you have any ideas how to get round the problem ??
I just bought some aftermarket handles for my 70 beetle. the fit is awful. the front where it hooks onto the door sticks out so far that the seal moves around freely. what can I do to move that part closer to the door? bought them from cal pacific/jbugs.
Looking for a tip Chris. My son is working on his '66 Dbl Cab, He's having problems breaking the 36mm nut to remove the rear drums, froze solid it seems?
greetings i have a 1964 beetle - jan 1964 the handles dont seem to work .i re re keyed the drivers side myself and it works fine when not installed on door when installed it binds up and does not function correctly,i did notice a part # on the under side of handle.this was my dads race vw in the past so really dont know what parts related to the door locks are on the car now.can you tell me what the vw part # is for a door handle for a vw 1964 pre 8-64? just trying to figure this puzzle out thanx JF
Just replaced mine on my ‘64 with the Brazilian made model. The passenger side doesn’t work with the key. The driver’s side is very stiff and needs a lot of force with the thumb to get the mechanism to work. Many decades ago with my ‘61 VW van, the Brazilian parts were often better made than the German ones.
Onthis video you mentioned that you have a video on '67 door handle, i cannot find it. My issues is my '67 was fitted with '64 handles - but they wont lock the door. So i found the original's but they won't lock or unlock the door (with the Key) = i figure i have something else different. Now i am looking around - please let me know if you have an idea of where to start
Hey Chris I have a question, how the non-locking handles suppose to work (66 bug) I put one on and is not opening the door when I push the knob, and I know is unlocked inside.
I just bought this handles and according to the code they are for a 66, just wondering if the non-locking passenger side is missing any components, thanks I appreciate your help and sharing your knowledge thru your videos.
If more volks cared doing quality work like on this video work a bit slower life would be so mush nicer maybe then we would all get along nicer I have found out doing things properly haste makes waste is what makes life nicer as I get long with my senorita sometimes when possible it could be done over but who finds the time also it pays to work in organized fashion using the right tools why make it hard if easy is best simple best I know from years of coining things thank u enjoy youselves if possible only problem is many ruin it for themselves when it should not been
