I always get scared people are going to get smacked in the head or face by someone's board hitting them at high speed. It could be fatal. How do you avoid it?
there's surfer etiquette. they're all knowledgeable enough to not drop into a wave if someone else is already on it, and will dive under the wave if necessary to avoid it
EASYTIGER10 I've had two major head gashes from surfing. One just like you are saying. The other was from part of the pier when seal beach pier fell apart
I always liked surfing more than body boarding. I only like big waves with a body board, but had always hoped for a fiberglass version of a boogey board. I think that would work much better. Maybe not?
My brother and I bodysurfed the Wedge almost everyday back in the early 70's. When there were only about 5-6 guys in the water and 80-90 on the beach watching with camera's. Try it at low tide. Don't know why my wive's name is on this post.
Izzy Jorgensen people do it, but it is kind of dangerous, i've bodysurfed 3 meter waves but it was a smoother wave which didn't have so many bumps or closed up and the water was deeper than here plus there was no one, best body surf of my life almost as good as some of my best surfing sessions, i reckon i could body surf here but yeah, it is quite fucking dangerous.
Wedge is world famous for it's bodysurfing. During the summer months there are restrictions as to when bodysurfers and surfers can be in the water at the same time. This video was shot during the surfing hours. I do have plenty of bodysurfing Wedge video's here on my HBstonelight RU-vid channel. Check em out sometime! (-:
Does anyone know how often and long waves like this last? I live down in San Diego but would love to come check them out sometime, It's a bit of a drive though =)
+RLgamer13 it's really not that bad, where the wave breaks is a big hole made by the impact force so you kind of just get swept into the shore and all you have to do is stand up
I will keep searching and searching till I find a good surf video that does not have music or worse techno crap and the Gopro footage is not in slow motion.
Skimmers always tear it up! They have the side wave advantage. That extra push puts them right in the backdoor barrel and on through to the other side and out. On a good high tide, skimmers are the show! RAW >> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UJc4lxkmgxc.html
How does a leash cause any of that? You either paddle for a wave or you don't. The fact the surf boards are just being binned off after unsuccessful rides with other individuals in the vicinity is dangerous and stupid.
bodyboarders get no respect and it even looks childish, i dont understand why these people [put all this effort into a tiny piece of foam, why not learn how to actually surf? are people who bodyboard afraid to stand up on a wave? or is it that they tried real surfing, couldnt do it and gave up...bodyboarding takes absolutely no skill and anyone could do it. actual surfing requires skill and knowledge unlike this "bodyboarding" trend which will hopefully die out soon
