They are THE most underrated hard rock band in the past 20 years. They don't have a bad song. Every song is thought provoking and full of meaning. More and more Alter Bridge!!!
I was at that show. Was supposed to go with the drummer from my band af the time. But he couldnt go cause of the cancer which was discovered a few months before. I went with his brother. He died shortly after. This song still to this day hits hard. Especially this live version cause I know I was in that crowd crying my eyes out.
"At the risk of sounding judgmental, I think I've figured out who the weak link in Creed was." I laughed so hard I started coughing. My wife came in from the other room to make sure I was going to live.
Finally AB came into The Daily Doug!!! One of the most incredibile bands. One of the greatest voices and sensibilities. One of the most engaging reactions!
In Loving Memory (Kerrang! Studio version) and Watch Over You (Myles Kennedy Billboard Studios) are two acoustic performances that really showcase Myle’s vocal abilities and are just absolutely beautiful versions. Definitely worth reacting to.
Mark Tremonti (lead guitarist) also has quite the set of pipes on him, but gladly takes a back seat to Myles. These two can be considered the dynamic duo with their vocal and guitar capabilities!
Thanks Doug for getting to this one and doing the Amsterdam version. Mark Morris, whom the song was written for, sold Myles Kennedy his first guitar. I consider this Alter Bridge's epic song. As some in the comments have stated the next one to do is "Words Darker Than Their Wings Live at Royal Albert Hall" There are others, but I go there next. Mark Tremonti, the lead guitarist, also has a band and I would strongly recommend doing the studio version of Marching in Time. A very uplifting song. Like you said, for all that have lost someone close, this song goes out to you.
Great song. Miles could make singing the phone book sound awesome. Dudes got pipes. Anything by Alter Bridge is great. Can’t wait for you to listen to Fates Warning do Still Remains live n Athens or The Ivory Gate of Dreams. 😉
One of the first song I learnt with my new band :) I never paid attention to the lyrics and it was a mistake. I suggest also Cry of Achilles from the same band, it's a great great song and it's incredibly fun (and also pretty hard) to play !
Years after finding them out, this song still gives me chills. Lately their songs haven’t had that much power on me, but I’m sure they still have such a power to perform this live.
I had the distinct honour of being there and the Royal Albert hall show's. For 12 years I went to go see them every time there toured in the UK or western Europe. Back in my younger, single days.
Must look into these guys. Heard Miles Kennedy on other things but not Alter Bridge and nothing suits a singer more than their own sentiments, words and passion put into their own instruments. Nice reaction as always Mr Helvering.
Unfortunately I don't think they have many tracks on this level. All of their albums have a standout track or two, but by and large they're full of generic rock. Blackbird was a rare moment of true inspiration, and I'm glad it's found an audience. It's a shame because Myles is a superb singer, and Tremonti has grown leaps-and-bounds as a guitar player since Creed, but they're one of those bands that almost never take chances or risks and stay rooted in a particular sound that was already dated in the early-00s.
@@jonathanhenderson9422 I respectfully disagree. Some people say Cry Of Achilles and Fortress is better than Blackbird. And This Side Of Fate and The Last Hero are on the same level. And all Alter Bridge albums have its own distinctive sound.
I’ve seen this song live several times with my BFF Carol, and I felt like I had witnessed perfection. The beauty & power of this song is stunning when you’re right on the rail staring up at them! It’s like you’re transported to a place you’ve never been but it feels perfect when you’re there.
YESSS, this is one of my favourite songs EVER. I am so hyped you did a reaction to them!!! I took a different meaning to the song but it really helped me get over a breakup sometime ago.. it was my most played song on spotify last year.
Doug, You need to review them performing Words Darker than their wings - Live at the Albert Hall with the Parallax Orchestra. Mind blowing, especially the high note towards the end. Myles Kennedy has an absolute brilliant voice.
Doug, they’re an amazing band live. I’ve seen them twice in concert already and hoping to make it a third in December when they tour the UK. More Alter bridge please !
Wonderful reaction on one of my favorite songs, Doug! Glad you liked it 👍🏻😁 Might I suggest listening to ‘Ghost of Days Gone By’? Powerful, dark and yet hopeful song. By the way, major congrats on the 200K subscribers! Well deserved! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I've been hoping you'd cover this one on the channel, definitely recommend you listen to Words Darker Than Their Wings live at the Albert Hall for an epic performance.
How have I not seen this before? Blackbird is one of my favorite songs. And how was I not subscribed already? What?!! Anyways...excited to hear your reaction to this.
Man, seeing someone hear this song for the first time is an absolute treat. Seeing someone really GET IT and FEEL IT is something else, though (as if it's possible not to feel this in your gut). Glad you loved this, Doug! Subscribing.
We watched him 5 years ago in Spokane with our friends. Our friend since passed of brain cancer so your words at the end hit hard today. Miles dad spoke at my friend’s celebration of life as they were good friends. Miles voice is amazing and I’m happy to hear he has another fan.
Just the progressions along stirs deep emotions within me. I am brought to tears any time I listed to this. And then there is the lyrics. This bands music bears my soul and leaves me vulnerable, in the best way possible.
Top 2 songs and Miles Kennedy is a true rockstar and MUSICIAN!!! This guy is very, very special. Thank you for highlighting this man and this band. They are truly great!! Thank you Doug...
After Words Darker than their Wings, please consider Cry of Achilles and Fortress. Both songs are epic. Thanks so much for finally getting to the masterpiece that is Blackbird!
Both Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti have solo projects. Myles is singing for Slash and Mark has his band Tremonti, both of which are worth reacting to. Mark is releasing an album for charity May 27th called Tremonti Sings Sinatra. There is a video of him doing I’ve Got You Under My Skin and it's worth watching cause he is outside his comfort zone and does a masterful job. He does the album with the Frank Sinatra Orchestra so the music is superb. Give Tremonti a listen cause he does the songs he deems too heavy for Alter Bridge. They have 5 albums the most recent from the fall.
This song is something that I use to help me through my dark days since losing my wife almost six years ago. The grief can be overwhelming still today.
To me, in some ways, Miles Kennedy is like the male Floor Jansen. No matter how good you think he is, he gets better! Plus he's a killer guitarist to boot. Alter Bridge should be the biggest rock band in the world, but somehow they still fly under the radar.
You should give that entire album a listen from start to finish, it may be their best album, an absolute Masterwork!!! Doug, its always such a positive and enlightening experience getting your reactions, you have such a positive inner light, God Bless!!! Enjoy the album, its an overall upbeat and positive jam, ie., Blackbird the album! Rad and sad, I love it!!!
Now would be really interested to see your reaction to their performance of Words Darker Than Their Wings from the Royal Albert Hall with the Parallax Orchestra.
Wonderful Life / Watch Over You Live and as others have stated Words Darker Than Their Wings Live... crazy how we all recommend the live versions over recorded for this band. They're seriously my all time favorite.
Doug. Thankfully for finally getting to do one of this bands finest tracks. On the subject of grief and mourning family members etc I found Hold on to the Memories by Disturbed a brilliant track and would love to see your reaction to this.
This is very very good, but for full body reverberations, literally head to toe goosebumps, Words darker than there wings, Live at the Royal Albert Hall with Parallax Orchestra….unbelievable performance…please lets see it and thank you.. you are appreciated Denny
Another tidbit of info on Miles Kennedy. He has a pretty serious case of Tinnitus. He’s got a lot of hearing loss, and to me, for him to be able to sing with the voice that he has, is an incredible thing.
Myles Kennedy's vocal abilities (he's arguably the best vocalist in rock right now) are what led the guys to reach out to him about joining the band. What they hadn't counted on was his ability as a guitarist. Basically they ended up with two legitimate lead guitarists in Mark alongside Mark Tremonti.
