Doug, thank you very much for this. This song means a lot to me for the reasons you explained to the point in the video - it's about unity, compassion, friendship, connection, and all those emotions, and delivered by Iron Maiden in their fashion and style, melodic and deep, that I love so much - storytelling. And yes, they always give everything they have, I had the chance to see them live several times (not as many times as I would like to), and they always delievered their max. So, thank you again for this reaction, and since this all is about friendship and connections that we all have with each other (which in the end is the most important thing in life, the other people around us, friends, family, friendship, love...) - UP THE IRONS, UP THE DAILY DOUG, UP ALL OF YOU WHO WATCH THIS VIDEO :) Cheers :)
I'm curious about something. For me Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is the masterpiece. But I think it has something to do with our age more than the music. Ok so I am 46 years old. "Seventh Son" come out when I was 14. I think these albums remind us of a certain age and I am curious how old you are? If my theory is correct then you would have to be around 30 years old.
If you want another post-2000 Iron Maiden to check out, I highly recommend Paschendale from their Death on the Road concert. That particular show was filmed in Dortmund, Germany. The song is about the battle of Passchendaele from World War I. One of the most epic songs Iron Maiden has ever done.
Fun Fact: I picked this version over the Rio version because I typically like to include videos from the artists' own youtube pages instead of another channel. That (and the production value of the various camera angles) led me to pick this one.
I remember "Blood Brothers" was the song Bruce dedicated to Ronnie James Dio when he passed away in 2010, when Maiden was playing a concert at the Madison Square Garden, NY. Also I'll suggest again "Rainbow - Stargazer", I and for sure more people would love to hear your thoughts on that song!
In Montreal, Bruce (of course) does all his inter-song banner in French. So I hear "errlr tmmm, rttjjdf ddffde vssjvn dddd mmgjdjj mdhheih lljjfj Ronnie James Dio!!!" Also Yes on "Stargazer" please.
I knew this song, of course, as an Iron Maiden fan. But I never really HEARD it until I saw the play it live, 4 months after my dad died. 20,000 people around and I nearly broke down completely. It's never been the same for me since that moment.
That's amazing, man. 'Brave New World' kind of affects me that way, in part because my Dad was an English professor and the song is about a famous novel and in part because, though he wasn't much into metal, he thought the line "you are planned and you are damned, in this brave new world" was very eloquent. I actually stayed away from it after he first got sick, because I knew listening to it would really get to me.
@@zdenkonouzovsky6947 i understand the haters to some degree, but dont agree with them that maiden would be better without him. Janick sure isn't the cleanest player and he sometimes puts stage presence over accuracy, but his writing is what makes him great
I am 46 and two years ago, i lost my best friend for almost my entire life. We used to call ourselves as bloodbrothers and thats what we were. When this song came out it instantly became our anthem. When we went to Maiden concerts when the time of Bloodbrothers came we used to hug eachother and sing every single lyric. It was the song for our friendship. Now, every time i hear this song i remember my friend, i sing alone and i cry. Thanks Doug for this video, this song is more than a song to me, its the soundtrack of a very special piece of my life.
Man, I went to a Maiden concert with one of my best friends and blood brothers is something we also call we other (since we always loved Maiden and thought it was a pretty accurate term for our friendship). When Blood Brothers started, we hugged each other and started crying and singing our hearts out to every lyric. We where just by the barrier and it was simply unforgettable. Your memory resonated with my memory and I guess I felt a little bit of what this friendship means to you. Im so sorry for your friend's passing but I guess it's great that you could build such a great relationship with your pal and have some amazing memories like this. Cheers from Brazil, keep enjoying life and building such beautiful bonds with the ones you love!
@@rodrigomantovani5268 Friendship, especially the closest kind is the most difficult to find, but by far is the most beautiful feeling. I feel lucky to share almost 35 years of my life with my bloodbrother. One advice i can give to you and to everyone is have great time with your friends and never, NEVER let any kind of misunderstandings, egos and others divide you. Life is limited, its a pity to waste time on such things. Have a great year, be healthy and have tons of fun with your friends. Cheers!
one thing you said there absolutely nailed it for me, you said Bruce always sounds sincere with everything he sings. This is exactly why Maiden are more popular than they've possibly ever been, 40+ years of sincere music and performances.
Octavarium - Dream Theater Keeper of the Seven Keys - Helloween Halloween - Helloween Eagle Fly Free - Helloween To live is to die - Metallica Orion - Metallica Nocturne - HeXen
@@malawigw That's true, it just feels so nice though. Not the most interesting for Doug to listen to, but if he ever somehow ran out of songs it's there atleast :).
I can't like this enough. Your words of togetherness and helping one another are exactly what the world needs more of. One of Maiden's best and live it is absolutely incredible.
Doge is going to take years to listen to all iron maiden and i bet he will be hooked just like us , but saying that i wasn't a big fan of the killers album
I love your reactions, especially the iron maiden ones. Please don't stop tinkering on the piano during these songs, it's my favorite thing about them. Your knowledge of music and your ability to call out the notes and chords is impressive and entertaining, thanks Doug 👍
Not sure if you knew this or not. But when they go into the studio to record an album., they play together live. In other words, they don't come individually and lay their tracks down. They are in the same the room together playing. Also, Bruce uses no overdubs. This is why they sound so good live. I don't know of any other metal band that does that.
I was there, a wonderful night with Kingdom of Hate and Exodus, and it was the first Estadio Nacional's concert for Iron Maiden, the biggest venue in my country. Even Metallica have never played in Estadio Nacional, only Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, The Police, Madonna, and of course, Iron Maiden
I have two younger brothers who were for many years lost to me in the foster care system, thankfully they stayed together and one of them managed to find me. A few years later I took him to an iron maiden concert and we BELTED the chorus to this song. Such a wonderful time.
This song was played by entering the registry office at my wedding because my wife loves it. And when you began to play along with the piano I thought "Uff that would have been nice for my wedding". I always love when you jam with the piano to a Heavy Metal Song, thats great.
Iron Maiden is my favorite band for a while now. I've seen them live in Tampa (2017) and Sao Paulo twice (Somewhere Back in Time World Tour on 2008 and 2009 biggest Iron Maiden solo-performance show ever). These videos remind me of all Iron Maiden shows I've been! Truly amazing! Thank you for the videos and all the good memories you keep bringing. lml - Up the irons
@@darastarscream It's more because that particular song is a masterpiece. There are so many elements to that song in particular. But Tornado of Souls is a great song too.
Doug! You should have done the Rock in Rio version! That concert was something special, probably the greatest concert in the history of metal, not just because of the band, but because of the amazing interplay between the band and the audience. But, it's definitely a great, amazing song. I still recommend...Stargazer by Rainbow, probably the original studio version. I know you'll love it Doug!
@@garymitchell5899 Of course, I've seen Live after Death many times, my friend. Maiden is my favorite band of all-time, across genres, so naturally, that was a must for me. But I've never seen a live concert like 2000's Rock in Rio. The interplay between audience and band was like nothing I'd ever seen before. And what was really amazing, was how deeply familiar they were with the Brave New World tracks, even though the album hadn't even been out for that long, even singing along to instrumental sections. Live after Death is great, particularly 'Aces High', but I think Rock in Rio is just something else.
I was in the army when "Brave New World" was released. I remember "Out of the silent planet" playing on the one old TV set we had in the barracks and it blew me away. I had listened to metal for a while, but before that point Iron Maiden had been "just" one band among the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, alongside bands like Judas Priest and Saxon. But that record really made me fall in love with Iron Maiden's music and I first got the "Out of the silent planet" single on CD and the album on cassette to listen to while driving.
This song always reminds me of 2010 Sonisphere Festival here in Finland where Iron Maiden was the headliner on the last day. During that day a huge storm struck at the festival and tore apart the whole place, wrecking one of the two stages completely and almost the other one too. 40 people injured and one got killed. Because of that we were unaware of if that day was even gonna be completed for nearly two hours. During that time Iron Maiden's, Alice Cooper's, Slayer's and the festival's own crews were building that remaining stage and what was left of it and Alice Cooper and Iron Maiden was able to play their show's eventually. Slayer even lend their amplifiers and stuff to Iron Maiden because some of their stuff broke during that storm. And when it came time to play this song Bruce dedicated it to everyone helping on the stage, everyone that stayed and waited without anything sure if there even were going to be anymore shows, to those who got injured and above all to that one person who got killed. I've never felt before or since anywhere near that kind of connection with the band and the fans when everyone screamed their lungs out during that chorus that I just bursted out and cried the whole time. We truly were blood brothers that night.
This song is one of the favorites of my mother. My brother and I used to play in a heavy metal band and when my brother married, of course we were going to play and we wanted to play this tune to my mother, but unfourtunately we didn't make enough rehearsals and many songs of the original list were discarted. The Maiden fans are making this channel bigger, as many reactions from the band, nice Doug!
When they've played this song at The download 2016 in Paris, it was a big emotional time because of the terrorist attack 6 months earlier in the city. It was so sad and so beautiful. One of the best moment for me....
Thanks, Doug. More Maiden ! Seventh Son of a Seventh Son from Maiden England 1988. Also, Infinite Dreams from the same concert would make my life complete! Up the Irons!
There's a song I'd love to watch a reaction: Voice of the Soul, from the band Death. The band was a death metal band (actually one of the creators of death metal), but this song is instrumental (which means it doesn't feel as a death metal song at all), and it's at the same time it's sweet and heavy (not heavy in distortion, but in emotions). Love your channel!
Listening to Doug playing at around 10:40 made me think how cool it would be if he really let rip and gave us his version of a guitar solo on the keys. Just love these videos Doug (especially Maiden) - please keep them coming.
I always thought this song was naff until I saw them play it live in 2017 on the Book of Souls Tour, I think it closed the main set. It changed my mind, what a fantastic song to hear live. Bang on about the camaraderie this song stirs up. Brilliant!
I really apreciate this space that you are providing to us where we can hear songs from our childhood from my favorites bands while sharing your experience of hearing it for the first time, and really seazing the moment and talk about the music instead of being unnecesary bombastic for the camera. Good Job Doug!
I’ve heard the Maiden beat style is called the galloping beat. Listening to Maiden over the years has helped me with running when I was in the military. Getting up at 5am or running after work that galloping style would keep me focused. I normally would just listen to the 7th son album. Whenever they would start their typical harmonizing, the beat would pick up and I would run faster. Even now as I ride a stationary 5 times a week for 45 min. I maid-en (made a) Maiden playlist. After singing along 2 14min songs with galloping beats I’m halfway done with my ride! Maiden helped me even as a kid. In English class we covered the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, So I had an Iron up on everyone in class. I read the book of Revelations @17 because me and my friends thought 7th son was about Revelations. It scared the crap outta me! Lol Even now I’m audiobooking the out of the silent planet trilogy.
I love it when you play the piano along to the song. I am a fan of keyboards in rock with bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow, and Yes. Please keep playing the keys along with the songs, adds a very nice flavor to the songs
It's very nice to hear someone from the "recognized" culture talk about what seems to be considered a sub-culture regardless of the amount of people who actually love the music. There is depth and meaning in most metal songs. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the song "Brighter than a thousand suns", which has for a long time been one of my favorites by them. I've listened to Maiden since early 1980s and the first time I saw them live was in 1984 - it's been 9 times over the years...The Maiden fans are among the nicest people you could ever meet and when you visit a concert you can see three generations of people there, grandfathers with their sons and grandsons, all enjoying the ambience and the sheer scope of the event.
I just stumbled onto your video after watching Dream Theater ... RU-vid suggested your video to me and I clicked it! Ive now subscribed and have watched 5 videos!! Doug.... You are awesome!! It seems like you have perfect pitch ?? when you start jamming with the song on the piano ..... LOL I love it!! Keep them coming!! I first heard Iron Maiden at the age of 12 that would have been 1980. I have traveled many miles from my home to see Maiden at least 10 times now. Hmmmmm??? I've lost count..lol It is awesome to see that you get Maiden for more than just a Metal band! In my opinion, they are a genre all to themselves !! Most rock bands today were influenced by Iron Maiden! Just think about it.... they get no air play in the states and can consistently fill any place they play!! after 40 years!! They are AWESOME!!
Rock In Rio in '85-- basically, they played their guts out in front of a live crowd of about 300,000 plus another million across the TV. South America's belonged to Iron Maiden ever since.
I love when you can so quickly pickup on the chord progression and melody and begin to play along. Iron Maiden has been one of my long-time favorite bands and I've become hooked on your channel since the first Maiden song you chose to cover.
Thank you for this another reaction,. Blood Brothers is one of my favorite. For the next Iron Maiden reaction you could listen to Journeyman. It’s the only acoustic song Maiden ever written. It’s nice to hear that from the live concert “Death on the Road”. Up the Irons!!!... greetings from Italy :)
In concert this song transcends. I had never heard it before I went to see them because I wasn't familiar with the Brave New World album, but it blew me away. It's a reminder that there are true gems hidden away on all of Maiden's albums.
I think Maiden Monday should be a permanent thing by Doug... =) *edit - Also, Through the Fire and the Flames by DragonForce would be an amazing song for you to hear. Dunno why I didn't think of it earlier!*
I've seen them 5 times, and from my experience, they put 100% into every show they do. It is an amazing theatrical experience. Usually in metal shows you see pockets of moshing as you look around an arena. At a Maiden show, you often just see however many tens of thousands of faces with eyes wide and jaw dropped, mesmerized by the show.
Spot in. I've seen Maiden live 10 times and its a one big giant sing/scream along on every tune. My son's first live gig was Maiden. Gotta raise em right. \m/\m/
@@MetalGeek464 100%. You could say my daughter's first concert was Iron Maiden, though really she was still in my wife's uterus. We just chilled at the back eating nachos the whole show but my wife says she kicked around almost the whole time and at age 8, she still loves rock and metal.
I was in attendance at this show. Being from Canada, we have always watched the DVDs and interviews from all bands telling us how amazing and insane South American crowds are. Maiden are my favorite band (seen them 42times, since 2001) , and when they announced they were filming a DVD in Chile and Argentina, I didn't think twice, I had to be part of it! To say it was an amazing experience is a vast understatement. Really hope to get back down there some day...
The last concert I went to before all the covid stuff happened was Iron Maiden in St. Paul, MN. Anyway, I liked your reaction to this video. I especially liked your piano addition. That was really cool.
I was astounded when you mentioned the comradery through the 6/8 signature. I've always felt it but never managed to realize that both the time signature and the theme of the song play a major role in the song. I just love the way you connect what you hear and feel with the song that's being played. Those "non-musical" details you capture are what I like the most in your videos. Being a huge Maiden fan, it's always a pleasure to watch your videos. Greetings from Brazil.
