This was when George was head of the guitar department at SF Conservatory of Music. Great memories and the best teacher I ever had. Will see him soon as a matter of fact.
Hey there, I'm in SF and looking to buy a classical guitar. Do you have recommendations on local shops or individual sellers? Buying/selling a musical instrument is a special occurrence, and would rather the transaction happen with someone special rather than a box outlet. I've been telling myself that the saxophone is my dream instrument because it is a family thing with my grandfather, but I grew up playing on my dad's 1971 Kohno Model 10 and that was by far my most intimate musical experience. George Sakellariou has been one of my top favorite guitarists ever since I saw him play in Louisville - early 80's, about the time his "South American Guitar" Lp was released. The concert just drew me in - like the audience was lost in meditation! Unfortunately these U of L art students were sketching George as he played and one would suddenly hear a loud "Swoosh" as each art student switched to a fresh page in their sketchbooks...totally ruining the thread of concentration! George was totally professional and didn't react to the noise of the students - though I glared at them!!!
Mr. Mongani. I am a current student of Maestro Sakellariou. I have been sitting next to him for seven years and talk about this video all the time. I also viewed it in 1986 on PBS. Do u have a copy of the entire video I may purchase from u? I would love to sit next to Sakellariou and watch his performance. Thanks

Classical guitar is very difficult to master. This man is amazing. They all are, all these classical guitarists I've seen on RU-vid are amazing. I am awed by them.
Beyond his Guitar Playing capability, George Sakellariou is one of the finest individuals I have ever met. Indeed, he possesses all of those qualities you have enumerated. I, too, have a copy of the vinyl recording mentioned. And, perhaps the distinction of being the least accomplished of any student he has taught in his esteemed career. Doesn't matter. I know that he loves me, anyway. As do I love him. Duke
