I play steel strings and finger pic it hurts for a bit but you get acclimated to it like most guitar skills

You know what the best tone is though? A gypsy jazz guitar with silver-plated flatwound gypsy jazz strings. First time I used these strings I feel in love and never looked back

I've finger picked a steel string. It didn't seem much more difficult. I think for me it was more an issue of, I want to slide my fingers around on the frets but when your thinner strings being knify, might wanna get your calis built up again before sliding back and fourth real fast, not a great feeling, it does make you feel as though sliding any faster is gunna slice your finger tips up.

I felt that "no" in my soul

My only problem fingerpicking with my steel string guitar is how quick my nails wears down after playing. PS: I DON'T pluck ONLY with my nails I just prefer the sound when my nails hit it at the end of the stroke.

I play classic guitar but would love to switch to a different guitar.

I started learning classical on a normal guitar before my parents got me a classical guitar it was like that for a few months. Sadly I cut my tendons on both my middle fingers so I haven’t been able to play for a month and won’t get to until like February :,)

I have been playng classical guitar for 8 years, and I got steel string guitar for 2 months to practice with. This is exactly how it felt. No blood, but it hurt a lot.

I didn't know this was a thing, but then I don't know many things. I have steel string and like to play fingerstyle, Lianne La Havas type songs. Only recently felt sore and needed to build up a callous from extra power on harmonic note strings ... Getting electric soon! Very looking forward to how easy it will feel to play this one song in particular that's 70 % bar chords :/

Classical guitar is actually more prevalent in Mexico and latin america so yeah only part of the west that uses steel string more is the US

Omg I remember the first time I went from electric guitar to acoustic. Both have steel but acoustic is just crazy on how sharp and strong it’s steel strings are.

i started out on an electric but when i started playing acoustic too i went straight to western, i’ve always hated nylon strings..

It’s always fun letting my friends play my 110 gauge strings when they play very thin electric guitar strings. It looks like it’s a lot more comfortable haha

I'm puzzled by this video. I play steel strings. My finger-picking has never hurt but it used to wear my nails down in about 20 minutes. Now I have acrylic nails from a salon on my picking hand only. On the other hand, the pain from holding chord shapes has never left me, despite the callouses.

I’ve only ever had steel strings and I barely ever use picks💀 strumming doesn’t even hurt anymore after a bit under a year of playing.

Acoustic was my first and still is my only guitar. The strings gotten a little rusty and my fretting hand used to bleed hard, developed calluses and I still strum with fingers... ✨

I play the guitar since 2016, from the beginning with steel strings and my fingers hurt only for the first 2 months

I’ve only ever used steel string with fingerpicking. Actually learned fingerpicking on an electric before buying my first acoustic. Don’t know what this video is talking about unless it’s about folks with leprosy or something.

As a person who use bass gesture to play bass part that have a hell lot of sliding and high frets on guitar. My fingers hurt like hell.

as a fingerstyle steel string player, you get used to it. ive actually tried nylon strings and snapped 3 of the 6 within the first hour.

Man I played acoustic guitar for 3 years now using my finger tips since I cant really grow nails due to my work and I never ever experienced any pain in the picking hand....

Even for people with rock guitars or basses told me that my guitar has very... hard strings. And for me is like a challenge to make chords like F with the whole finger on every string

Beginners Bass players in my class: Ouch! The strings of the bass are the most painful! Me, who has been playing a lot of fingerstyle songs in a metal strings guitar for couple of months: I don’t know what are you talking about.

but hey I'm playing steel strings with my fingers both strum and lead for like 2 years...still a beginner but i can say that the pain really goes away after 2-3 months or less

I'm a classical guitatist and a basist but I also tried playing double bass once.Nothing can kill my fingers.

interesting. i’ve been playing for 3 months now on steel and only finger picking and the only pain is from playing for multiple hours but only on my left hand

I play alot of western folk and finger pick on black and steel strings

i learned some flamenco strumming on electric and now my cuticles bleed quite often

As a bass player my fingers are super calloused up. I think I’ll be alright finger picking a steel string.

I've always thought picks are uncomfortable so I've always played acoustic with my index nail or fingers.

Jokes on you I lost my picks and don't feel like getting more

I am the only one who feels comfortable with steel strings more than thick nylon strings and i also play rumba on steel strings

Too be fair I've been playing alot for 4 months, started on a steel string acoustic and only recently play on a nylon string the odd time and steels only hurt for about 2 weeks to a month

I always finger picked thought it was easier unless I had to strum I didn’t know this was a thing

I been playin with steel strings since i started, always used my fingers

when i started it wasnt rlly that painful for me and if it did hurt i just kept going because i just wanted to keep playinh

At first I was extremely confused as to what "pain" he's talking about, had to go back 12 years to when I started playing. Yup steel strings felt like knives back then 😂

I play electric with my fingers because I first learned bass fingerstyle

I have never had my fingers bleed from normal finger style. When my fingers bleed on acoustic it's because I used the back of my finger, and the nail as a pick, and I cut up the cuticle where my nail starts on the finger and bleed from there. How do you bleed from just plucking a string???

I play steel string guitar with my fingers. I once sliced the tip of my middle finger. It washed that deep but still.

Actually never really had that issue , I play any guitar I get put in my hands 🤣 Ive got all types of guitars at home. I love to play my western guitar the most of all. But its funny to feel the difference between a fender jazz bass and then picking up a electric guitar with light strings after it 😁 like playing a toy guitar.

If I'm using a pick I'm still hybrid picking can't not use fingers

Just for first Time guitar players that doesn't happen with steel string it will hurt but you will not bleed

I played steel string for a long tome than got a classicla and i barely play with steel anymore

As a bass player I can say that my finger is just rock hard after that and when I try to play the guitar is really soft

I mean i play with fingers. Theres a lot of songs where you have to pick multiple strings at ones and maybe im just not skilled enough but i dont know how i would do it with a pick

Own both. Play both. Both are awesome. But either cant do the others job musically.
