July 29th 2022. I had just dressed my Mum for her funeral. I knew that I wouldn't be in the right head space to drive and it was something I needed to do alone. I boarded a bus to get home. I was sat in the back of the bus when I got the notification for Brother, and I went from quietly sobbing to laughing way to hard for being on London transport. I must have looked deranged 😂😂😂
@@uosuaq Amberly has always been my kind of lady, especially for how young she is. She loves him and he her. At this point in my life, I don't even know how to be a politically correct wife, as I've been married for 20+ years, and he loves me with no conditions. What else can I say?
"She" is Amberly, girlfriend then - now Austin's wife. You seemed affected by Tim's dragon getting flattened. Tim definitely played it well. So many humorous details.
What a genius marketing move on Home Free's part! Make a video that's so entertaining, and that contains so much hilarious action, that we have to go back and watch it over and over to catch all the jokes; then couple that with a great song masterfully done so we have to go back and listen any number of times again because we were too distracted the first dozen views watching the action. It all adds up in viewership. Well done, guys. Loved your analysis of the music as usual. You did well not to get completely distracted while watching! Gail L.
Rob’s bandage says boo boo, so Tim is kissing the boo boo - an Americanism (I think) that parents use with children who have a scratch and are crying. Adam is a Dungeons and Dragons fan, which is very evident!
People who posted around the time of the original video said it was shot in very hot weather. Bravo to them for overcoming that and still making the video so active and so fun.
I applaud you, for being able to concentrate on the music and not allow yourself to be distracted by the video too much. A rare feat! That was actual a real LARPing event btw (or at least real LARPers), the camera guy had to wear a special cape-like-thing in order to not be attacked. Their parts were mostly pre-planned, though. And it was a super hot day, too! I can't imagine how exhausting this was to film, Thanks for the reaction and great analysis!
I love this song, the message of the song & the video. As always, the singing, harmonies & beatboxing are terrific. The woman who clubs Austin (the elf) is his (now) wife Amberly and she keeps waling on him in the background! Thanks for playing this, your comments & analysis.
You just have to love these guys - they always sound amazing, their sense of humor is hilarious, their ability to have fun just makes you want to join them...
Austin ( LOTR Elf) Chance (Mandalorian ) He really loves Star Wars Rob ( Braveheart) He has a movie review podcast with his friend Buegs called The Avid Indoorsman Adam ( Wizard/Mage) Is really into D&D and is a Dungeon Master Tim is Hiccup riding Toothless from the movie How To Train Your Dragon Austin’s wife Amberly ( lady warrior) is the one who hit Austin in the back If you take a close look a the bandaid Tim puts Rob’s finger it says Boo Boo 😂 Home Free released the first video about a month ago with their new high tenor Adam Bastien called Something To Talk About ( Bonnie Raitt ) and are releasing another this week
Some more insights: the girl who hit Austin was his former girlfriend, Rob was like Braveheart, Adam Rupp has a Dungeon and Dragons room(!) in his home and so on. Really enjoy your reactions. It is amazing to me that Home Free can switch so much from comedy to extremely serious and emote both equally well.
My favorite part is Rob still singing while he is laying on the ground - slain! Thank you Sir Hairless. You are my favorite reactor. I always learn something new.
I had to watch this several times before I could truly appreciate the wonder lyrics and vocal performance. It's one of my favorites and on my daily playlist. Another great analysis.
When this first came out, I watched it twice and then gave up and closed my eyes and "watched" again so I could concentrate on the music. Such adorable goodballs. And now we know how Adam Rupp does what he does - he's actually a wizard.
I absolutely adore this video! It was silly, but that’s one of the things we Home Fries love about them. Love Rob’s falsetto in the chorus! Love Chance’s lead at the beginning. Rob & Austin on the ground with Amberly giving that priceless look! Love it! Tim and his dragon were adorable. Then Adam, the hero (how appropriate being he’s a D&D Dragon Master). Of course, the singing is excellent, as usual! I love how even these silly videos make us feel something! I saw you! ☺️ This is one of my many favorites.
I love your analyses of the Home Free performances, and I hope you continue to react, and comment on many others of their works! I'd love to get your reaction to Austin and Rob's operatic performance of, Nessun Dorma! Thanks for sharing your musical knowledge!
This probably my overall favorite song/video from Home Free. Thanks for the fun reaction and analysis. These kinds of events are called Live Action Role Playing aka LARP'ing.
One of my favorite songs sung by HF! I'm another who couldn't hear the song with all the silliness going on! BTW, that high B that was in the background and at the end was sung by Adam Rupp. As usual, he did a superb job on the beatboxing. And Rob's voice was so beautiful. I still crack up when he's on the ground, "dead," singing so beautifully!
No matter how many times I see a video before you review it, I always have a new appreciation for the music and you see things I missed. Thanks for still another great analysis!
A video and vocals on top, a very nice song, i had to watch it a second time eyes closed to appreciate all the nuances from the guys 😁 Thx Sir, you're the best 💖
The animals should never be hurt, you're a man after my own heart Sir H. Great review of course, now go get your armor and join these larping heros. ❤🎉😂
This one is so cool! I eventually had to put my phone face down so that I could hear the lyrics. I’m a fan of NEEDTOBREATHE and this song was written in the aftermath of an infamous fight between the Rinehart brothers after which one ended up in the hospital. They later talked it out and decided to be brothers first and band mates second. At least some of the HF guys picked costumes based on their interests. Rob (Braveheart) loves movies and has a regular podcast about movies called Avid Indoorsmen. Adam is obsessed with Dungeons and Dragons and other mythical things. Chance is a huge Star Wars fan. Austin and Amberly picked up the elf ears at a Renaissance Fair. Tim is indulging his inner child for How to Train Your Dragon. It was brutally hot the day they filmed! Thanks for your insights!
I've been waiting for this one! So fun! Loved your reaction (and your humor!). It was fun to watch you watch it too! I finally had to turn my back to the video to be able to focus on the music, and I'm impressed with how you could watch and listen at the same time. Thank you!
I'm glad you got around to seeing this one. I believe the video Idea was from Adam Rupp, who's real-life hobby is playing Dungeons and Dragons. The activity is based on LARP (Live Action Role Playing). If you look carefully enough, you may pick out even more errors in the filming. One being Austin's extended ears disappear in a few scenes. This was filmed during a heatwave that had covered the country. It was nearly unbearable heat for many of us outdoors at the time. One of my favorite videos from HF!
Congratulations on being able to concentrate on the music during this video, though it was great to see you enjoying it too. (And yes, that's Austin's wife Amberly 'killing' him - she was having great fun with the dressing up as well.)
Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction and analysis as always. I am seriously impressed by your ability to focus on the music. It took me 3 tries and I only managed on the third try because I turned my back to the video 😂😂😂
I was wondering how long it would take you to crack out a full on smile in this reaction. Not long as it happened! I LOVE these gentlemen and I LOVED this reaction! Thank you for my afternoon smile!
This video is so distracting, I had to eventually listen to it with the visuals turned off in order to be able to pay attention to the music. If you were able to pay as much attention to the music on first watching as it seems, you're a much more attentive listener than I am! The sight of Rob, lying dead on the ground, but still valiantly singing his solo line, just cracks me up every time I see this thing!
Really, really enjoyed this video and experiencing it with you 😊. I think one of the things I love about your reactions is that you allow yourself emotional expression tempered with academic musical appreciation at the same time (if that makes any sense). It was so much fun to watch your face reflect the joy and originality of the piece. I think it was nice (and smart) of Home Free to inject a lighter element into a song obviously intended to impart a sense of love and brotherhood. Of course, there is nothing jovial about the horrors of warfare, there is nothing in this world more unifying than being part of a “Band of Brothers” in active, armed conflict. So I think Home Free accomplished what they hoped for in this video, conveying that sense of brotherhood in a manner in which viewers may reflect on the lyrics should they choose but also keep it light enough to make it exceptionally entertaining. As usual, I have such gratitude that you can hear so well and bring to light subtle nuances in the composition which create a musical recipe the viewer can enjoyably consume. I’m so happy to support you both here and on Patreon ❤
Thanks Terry, as always! 🙏 Completely agree with what you say about HF injecting a lighter element into a fairly emotional/deep song. I recently finished watching Band of Brothers (for the third time) so the theme of brotherhood and the horrors of warfare are definitely fresh in my mind
Thanks for this reaction to one of my Home Free favorites! I appreciate how your music theory explanation helps me to understand the nuances of each song and why they tickle my brain so deliciously. ❤
I'm sure I heard Pentatonix start a song with the same notes before. Lol you just mentioned it. I guess we agree. This group is very entertaining. This particular video reminds me of Monty Python and The Holy Grail for some reason. I usually do like their videos a lot. ❤R/A🎼🎵
Thanks for your analysis to this fun video. Great song & message about "brotherhood" & looking out for each other. The guys looked like they had a lot of fun doing this video. This was my first introduction to "larping".
Exactly! Not fair to hit the horse!!! (Especially when it deflates.) OM! I have watched this video so many times, and I never realized it was a dragon until you said so. Now I have to repeat the end of your video because I was laughing too hard to hear you. One of my all time favorite Home Free videos!
Nice reaction to a great song and silly video! Another funny video watch “meant to be” featuring Lisa Cimorelli!… Go karts and arcade games and Rob only winning a couple of tickets to get his prize at the end…Lots of fun and Silliness!! lol
Home Free's ability to create an interpretation that evokes a unique video presentation and yet tells the story and be entertaining while it hits the mark of the lyrics intentions is off the charts incredible. Too much fun going on and it is emotional catching to the viewer!! Certainly creates high expectation with every video they produce as they try to out do the last effort. ❣
One of my favorites of theirs. Love the song and lyrics while they’re being silly. Adam is a huge fan of Dungeons & Dragons so he’s a mage/wizard and could use his magic to resurrect them. Austin’s wife clobbered him and yes, fed him water as they said it was super hot that day in Nashville (around 100F). Tim was bandaging Rob with a bandaid that said “boo boo”. Hahaha and kissing his boo boo. Too funny. Chance is a huge Star Wars fan and so was the Mandolorian. Love the goofiness and yet loved the song! Good one SH!
This is the silliest I've ever seen you, Sir Hairless! (I've seen Home Free far sillier, though.) This is my first time viewing this video, and I'm quite disappointed not to have seen the boys "face down in the desert." Oh, and thanks for pointing out the similarity of that opening chord progression to PTX's in Carol of the Bells! Of course no one has a copyright to a chord progression, but the parallel struck me instantly. I also liked your description of that high B as an inverted drone. This was great fun, but you also gave us a real analysis. Thank you.
Funny as much as times I’ve watched this video I did not pick up on the folks standing around. Those two men were Tim’s friend and collaborator Chris and the other HF manager Luke. 😅😅😅
The "calm before the storm" is Chance's vocals starting off. Kind of like a coach talking to the team strategies before the game. Then everything opens up with an upbeat.
I do love this video and the brotherhood it represents, but I then went to the video with NEEDTOBREATHE, featuring Gavin DeGrew. The difference in the role-play was night and day. One so serious, one more entertaining, but still with the same message. I have had to watch several times to relate the silliness to the theme. It all comes out in the end how they take care of each other, and the preparation for a new battle! Gotta love these guys and their creativity. Thanks for picking out all the musical nuances of the song, several of which I hadn’t heard. I hope that you had a good weekend! 🎶 Cyd
I love when Adam Rupp cast actual magic, they all turned like WTF?! but then very quickly began celebrating that their comrade was a real wizard and then just kept going like nothing reality-breaking just happened.
Home Free =Brotherhood =5Brothers ❤❤❤❤❤ This is so awesome!!!! So cool and funny but at the same time so sweet!!! Beautiful how they are dressed up to go larping, all one by one fabulous. What a beautiful start from Chance with a voice so smooth and sexy. And even though it looked cool, it was almost a shame that you didn't see his face through that helmet for a while. 😄 Then our soulful Rob, the teddy bear with his beautiful voice as soft as silk and his very high note!! 💞Who sings while lying down and later received a sweet kiss on his injured finger from Tim.😂 Tim with his beautiful pathetic dragon and who with his bass could have knocked everyone down in my opinion. 😉 Austin with his amazing moves and a voice just like he looked. And I think Amberly loved knocking him down. 😅 Then Adam Rupp, who I think has always been magical with his vocal percussion/vocal sounds, but proved once again that he is The Magier/The Wizard and the glue of Home Free. He was incredible!!🥰
Sorry, I got so tickled when "Toothless" was slain and you talked about the unfairness of it. Also, Austin must be part lizard as he lost part of his left ear at the beginning of the battle. Miraculously it grew back. Fun video, plus great harmonies. 👍
The high B sounding rhythmically and persistently...think ALARM, ALARM, ALARM (albeit a bit tentative one -- kind of like when the smoke alarm in the room three doors down the hall starts going off, not very loudly, but way too persistently). After listening to your whole, wonderful analysis, I can but say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant!" The story told that contains that phrase in Matthew 25 isn't quite the same, but...there are bits and pieces that definitely do relate...as far as standing up FOR each other and not fighting AGAINST each other, and not just for the sake of, "What's in it for ME?!" The musical patterns in the song definitely follow those precepts, as well, I think -- as in, "That's not the way that's supposed to go, but then...hmmm...I guess that's the way it SHOULD go...for these purposes at least. YES! It worked!" Thank you, Sir! 😀
I can’t believe how many people in the USA are into Larping and died when Home Free decided to LARP and sing. All in good fun. Comparison to 300 and Gerald Butler, one of my favorites is hysterical. They are all different characters. Chance - Mandalorian, Austin - Lord of the Rings, Tim - How to train your Dragon, Rob - William Wallace/Braveheart and Adam - Wizard from Dungeons and Dragons. Oy!
Tim's actually a double character from the movie: Hiccup riding Toothless. And if you look behind Tim when the dragon get's taken down you'll see the Celtic warrior woman (Amberly) whacking the shite out of her husband-to-be. Just too funny.
Hey, SH! Would you consider checking out kd Lang singing 'Crying' (Roy Orbison cover)? I looked but didn't see it on your list of videos. If you've never heard kd, you will be stunned at her voice. Roy asked her to duet with him on Crying a short while before he died. So, for his tribute concert she was the only choice for the song. And she stole the show. She also 'owns' Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah (per Cohen). There are at least 3 live versions that are emotionally and vocally incredible.
This is a COVER of the song, performed by the very talented rock group 'Need To Breathe'! It is not one of their original song! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-61Wm_qlVD4Q.htmlsi=FqXvJFsKNN-A9Zn3 The costumes/character imitations are refered to as 'LARPing', live action role playing.
I’d love to see your reaction to an older one, pre Sing Off. I really enjoy their cover of Roger Miller’s King of the Road from the 2009 album Kickin It Old School. It’s a bass lead by Elliot Robinson. The group at the time was original members Chris and Adam Rupp, Matt Atwood (high tenor/lead), Rob Lundquist, and Elliot Robinson (bass). This song is audio only, no video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e4vpwcfF0TQ.htmlsi=JBFSYHPd4mEfEVaY
Hey SH! My absolute Favorite is Adam #2, Chance, and that Storm Trooper helmet? 😂 It is an Epic move! 🤷🏼♀️ Are you kinda sorta but not really but mainly saying that you and your mates (notice the reference) do not go out in costume every weekend to sing some epic song while in battle?!?! 🤔 New Bucket List item?!?! 🤔 Thanks SH! T ✌🏻
