Check out this reaction next! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EAu0zo2OvX4.html ---- I've recieved a few comments saying there are no instruments, so I'm adding this to the pinned comment. There is an instrument 🎹We can hear it but can't see it. "and there are moments in which they say the syllables of the text with very long notes to give it a harmonic base that El Guincho (the musician Pablo Díaz- Reixa) accentuates with a keyboard that allows them not to lose tuning."

My goodness…. that’s an experience. Unlike just enjoying a performance, this was gripping, full attention. And so very, utterly, different from the same song sung by those fellows in the comparison clip. I understand what you meant by needing to be in the right mood for experiencing this again, not the right thing to just pop up in random rotation on a playlist but rather choose it by intention for exploring this experience. Question: So how many languages do you speak/understand?? My goodness, I hope more folks will give this a try, even if it’s unfamiliar

How beautiful and ever so gripping - I was really moved. What a striking discovery for me! Flamenco artists seem to be experts in conveying emotion in a dramatic way - but she is doing it by softly wrapping your heart in her voice and pulling the strings. A happy song but so sad. I guess love can be like that. Your reaction was beautiful and your explanations helped me understand the contradictions in the effect this performance had on me. Thank you SH! 🌟 🌟 🌟

Your Spanish was good.☺️ I come from a Spanish background, and speak Spanish, so Latin music is special to me. Very emotional and sensual. This young lady, definitely evokes the beauty of this music. It seems almost a religious opening, like a church choir. Maybe she means this as a prayer to her lover? ❤🇺🇸

Hi, thank you for the reaction. Some insights that you might need to know (and I´m sure you know). The intense vibrato is called "quejío", and is a stylistic characteristic of "copla" and "flamenco". It can be much, much faster than what Rosalía does here. Remember that Rosalía is a classical and flamenco scholar as well (she has hold a HE masters in Classical Music and Flamenco). I am very glad you have reviewed this recording as it shows the difference between "zarzuela" and "italian opera". Zarzuela is a spaniard lyric subgenre that, quickly, diverges on the vocal and stylistical choices the singers need to do and very difficult for anglosaxon and italian school singers. This dissonances are as well a typical spanish pop culture and music notes and scales (menor oriental and hispanoárabe, in case you want to research it). Falla, Granados, Aita Donostia, and so on do showcase this (even Ravel every now and then). What Rosalía and other spanish singers have that makes them apart is the very strong control over vibrato, which is the reason why the big american popstars do not do so well in spanish pop culture market (we don´t appreciate the "beyonce" type of stylistic choices, for example). All in all thank you so much for the reaction. It is a good view on how an anglosaxon musician sees Spaniard pop and music culture. 🙂

Her music is often very empathic, very emotional. Despite the language barrier you can feel the pain as well as the luck, to this extent... i never seen that befored, in her live performances often theatrical, what a performer- its a real emotional roller coaster. Combined with her creativity mixing genres... she is one of few extraordinary artists doing things never done before. And español is a whole new world musically...💙 If you want to stay classic, go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o2CSarJ97N4.html If you want to go modern, go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_6YCNd3ONUU.html

The original song (the one sung by Los Chunguitos) was part of an eighty's film called "Deprisa, deprisa" soundtrack and this film is a reference of our "cine quinqui", a branch of films that talk about drugs abuse (heroine), slums and delinquency. Knowing this you can understand better the real meaning of the song and why she decided the use of all that dissonances and all that eeries sounds. It's a love song but it's a very hurtful love. I love this performance and Los Chunguitos praised her work.

Very unusual sound, but the intense and very expressive singing is incredibly captivating. I had to listen to the whole song again immediately. Impressive, not only because of the singer's powerful and very beautiful voice, but also because the choir gives the piece a very special atmosphere. (In my opinion, the choir was a little too loud at times, which meant that Rosalia's more delicate tones were sometimes drowned out.)

Based on the few songs I’ve heard by Rosalía so far, I thought this performance was refreshing and very elegant/ beautiful; thank you for this nice review and interesting discussion (and the Patreon who suggested it)! She is quite famous here in South America with the reggaeton style of music and has recently collaborated with some big names of the current mainstream music in North America (such as The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Travis Scott...). Besides, some months ago Björk released a charity single featuring Rosalía with a song originally created in the 90’s that didn’t fit into her solo albums at the time - yeah, Rosalía’s career is truly skyrocketing! Although the compositions I’ve heard by her are not my cup of tea, there is no doubt she is a beautiful singer with a lot of talent (taking this performance as reference, I think I should definitely discover more from her). At last, since you said you enjoy flamenco-influenced music, I’ll just say that’s another good reason for you to consider reviewing ‘Playing god’ by Polyphia in the future :)
@SirHairless
@SirHairless 3 месяца назад
Wow really?! So she is super famous? I cannot imagine her performing music such as this with any of those 3 you mentioned The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Travis Scott - perhaps the music with them is much more suited to the US 'popular' style? Yes Polyphia is on my list 🙌🏽 One day my dream is to be able to be more than 1 video in advance, so I can have a fair few lined up and this will be one of those

@@SirHairless Yes, Rosalía seems to be full of surprises! I’m starting to realize that she walks freely through a wide range of music genres, which is exciting and makes me intrigued to learn more from the other sides of her music that haven’t reached popularity in Brazil yet. As for her collaborations, I think it’s very cool to see the Spanish language represented and being sang by some top figures on the US Billboard chart (the songs I’ve heard with both The Weeknd and Travis Scott have a strong 'Latin' vibe, while with Billie Eilish the song has a more ‘atmospheric pop’ ambience, similar to the typical Billie style). Yay, it's great to know that Polyphia is included on your list! Take all the time needed to do things in your own wonderful way because we’ll be around, waiting patiently for the nice surprises you can prepare to share with us, thank you Sir!

@@SirHairless She is very famous in some circles... She has six Latin Grammy with her album "El mal querer" (translated something like "the wrong love") album. You have to hear it. It wasn't her first one but the one that made her famous. It's base was her final career project and mix pop, trap and flamenco. Every song has two titles, the song title and a "title chapter" of a medieval book called "Flamenca" (nothing to do with the musical style, it was the name of the book's main character). Rosalía previous works were flamenco related and the later ones were more urban/reggaeton. I liked El mal querer and she has two or three collabs that I like but her reggaeton/urban works aren't my cup of tea.

@@SirHairless She is a chameleon, we have only one like her in each generation, worldwide, and I am not talking about vocals, she is just an animal of the stages, the whole pack, there are better singers but not many can touch hearts as she do it. Each song is a surprise, explore her but take something in mind, collaborations with North and South americans are for her the way to conquer the world, to become famous, and she succeded as she got those grammy for her second album being not famous at all at that moment,but at the end of the day she was trained as a flamenco singer so her songs with flamenco roots are the most impressive. The collaborations also are interesting, because as I said she is absolutly of another level, but is in songs like "De plata" where she is at her best. Don´t miss that song. Its available live, in Sevilla, check that version. Impressive. Ah, and she is funny! very funny, she moves from the most intrascendental mood to performances like the one of this video which was in the " Spanish Oscars" awards called "Goya" , the whole country was listening and the song is , you know, one of those the whole country knows so was really " a moment" not only for her, for Spain. Next morning she was in all conversations, all papers, all tv channels, for that performance. The voice you can listen when she finish saying " Bravo!" is Penelope Cruz ;)

What a great reaction to this brilliant artist. Thank you! Rosalía has a stunning voice but she also produces, composes and writes most of her music too as well as bringing the creative ideas for her videos too which in themselves are like art pieces. You mentioned Rosalía's University, but did you know her second album 'El Mal Querer' was her final year project. This album also won her, her first Grammy. To me the song that best showcases her voice is a live version of De Plata live from Sevilla. Here's the link to help you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wfuPWAKGjBE.html She is also very unique in her musical arrangement which is brilliantly demonstrated in her song De Aqui No Sales. Rosalía doesn't seem to have a specific genre although she does use aspects of flamenco in a lot of her music which as brought this style screaming into the 21st century. Rosalía has songs which could be considered pop, trap, hip hop, reggaetton, bachata and more. Looking forward to your future Rosalía reactions 😊

Of course, these videos on RU-vid could have had some post-production done to the (or even at the time). @@SirHairlessPues vas a tener razón.

Hello, I really like the Neus videos. The dissonances you mention are very frequent in flamenco. It always seems that the notes do not reach the place. I can recommend that you listen to Paco de Lucía, especially on solo guitar and in older videos with classical flamenco repertoire, Seguidillas, Bulerías, etc. Not so much in his later era.

"and there are moments in which they say the syllables of the text with very long notes to give it a harmonic base that El Guincho (the musician Pablo Díaz- Reixa) accentuates with a keyboard that allows them not to lose tuning."
