As a non-musician, what I got from this video... 1. This is a chance for Brett & Eddy to flex their musicality. 2. It seems like Brett prefers "melo-romantic" music, and Eddy prefers "dramatic" tunes. 3. Music requires some (however little it may be) amount of deliberate construction...as evident by the much more coherent and beautiful tune played in the latter half of the 2nd "piece". 4. Brett and Eddy always play better as DUETS. . . . 5. Find someone who looks at you like Eddy looks at Brett. (With admiration, appreciation and understanding) 😍

3. You're definitely right, but I believe there probably wasn't much constructing to do. The reason their last piece worked so well was because they mostly knew which chord the other one was going to play. For example, the beginning only consisted of G major and b minor, two chords that fit very nicely (sub-dominant and relative minor of the tonic). This gave them the opportunity to focus on their playing instead of having to guess the chords.

This is like the complete opposite of my musical experience. My piano teacher was a jazz musician so the moment I knew some scales and chords we were improvising together. I always love hearing classical musicians improvise, since in Bach and Mozart's day it was considered essential for musicians and composers to be able to improvise (and even Beethoven apparently bemoaned that his compositions were never as good as his improvisations!). You guys should try more of it! It'd be really neat. Maybe do something like call for fan-submitted pieces that are graphical scores or descriptive scores? Or maybe do something like this where you are given a handful of notes as a theme-- but also add something like a tempo marking, or some other descriptive quality to act as direction. Or just do a violin duet rendition of Ornette Coleman's Lonely Woman, please, that would be really neat as well.

@artsy_artist1323
@artsy_artist1323 4 года назад
Valentina Pérez “desi” generally is used to refer to people from South Asia/the Indian subcontinent! Usually it refers to India/Pakistan/Bangladesh - these three countries were once one big country/colony (before the British left), and their cultures are extremely intertwined. Modern country borders don’t capture how people interacted with each other historically. So, for example, to say “Indian classical music” wouldn’t always be a good way of phrasing it bc of cultural overlaps! Food, music, languages, etc often transcend country borders in the region. Desi is a catch-all term to avoid that problem! People can even use it as a self-identifier (for example I am Indian, and therefore I am desi) That was a long explanation but I hope this helps!

That's the kind of improvisation that leads to actual music creation. You can throw out 95% of it, but through the exploration you can find some core themes (or licks) that can form the foundation for a new piece. You guys should do this in your practice daily and write some violin concertos for us all to enjoy :)
