Classical Vocalists React: ONEW 'O (Circle)' MV 

Actually, the music video director lost his cat recently, he commented that the message of this song reflected how he felt and helped him to accept his cat passing, thus he planned for the puppet to appear! I think it's beautiful how he added his own insight of the song to the music video and that he was comforted by the song, truly an example of what onew music means to a lot of us 🥰

As Key and Taeyon said after hearing this - this is pure Onew. It suits him so much.

I have been a SHINee fan since 2008. There is no other voice in the world like Onew's. It was such a pleasure to watch people's faces as they heard him sing for the first time. He is a very special man. Think of the animal this way. Most of us have a special stuffed animal that was part of our childhood. As we get older, it changes and becomes a bit more scruffy, but it is loved every bit as much.

"I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to sing that" After I first heard the song this was exactly my thought! It is just so Onew~ There are some songs where you can immediately pinpoint someone that would sound great singing it as well, and this is such a stunning example of one where that's not the case at all. So beautiful🥺

For me Circle is like healing pill. It talk philosophy. And yeah.. pure art

Onew's voice has always evoked warm golden caramel to me.

this cat has seen every war 😭😂 loved kayla's point about the power of a performer who can pull you in without gimmicks or "doing" anything in particular, onew's voice alone has such a unique emotional draw (my mom also comments whenever onew sings in shinee songs LOL) and coupled with the calmness that jacob mentioned between the hectic string bits (that arguably mirror today's fast paced, info inundated society), circle mesmerizes you into introspection, appreciation, catharsis, harmony aka free therapy

When Umu spoke about her Mom not knowing it's SHINee singing until Onew sings is literally me with my parents. They're both singers and they love love love Onew's voice! Also, that avocado animation is so freaking cute!

i feel like this song is a masterpiece in itself, but what's stunning with onew's vocal is that, this song doesn't have that "big vocal moment" like high notes or the run, it's as the theme goes, more stable and tranquil throughout. and personally i think it's hard to pull off those kind of songs, only when the artist has a great voice/tone and a great control over it does it shine. and i agree, i wouldn't have wanted anyone else to sing this song

Many people don't appreciate real good voices and singers in kpop. People tend to think ALL kpop idols can sing just because they have debuted and even asking for more lines, but nah, that makes us underappreciate the ones who ARE really good singers.

The choreography for Circle (you can find some music show performances) hit me in a way that nothing has since probably SHINee's Good Evening.

This MV is overwhelming gorgeous and I thought Blue was a philosophical cinematic masterpiece. When I was watching it for the first time as soon as the starting montage begun, I found myself getting a lump in my throat. I froze there and got teleported to a dream-like trance. It's real poetry and made me think about how Jinki is letting us in into a veryy personal emotional space. It got me thinking of all the grief, loss, beauty unfairness and the inevitable end of life via an overwhelming amounts of emotions. I'm not convinced I understand what I felt in the moment and what I'm feeling right now as I'm writing this. I guess that's what art does to you. It all felt so divine. The quick frames and the countdown with the special effects made me feel like I was watching Dark (the show). For me, this was an outer body/spiritual experience as if it had opened up my chest and exposed my very soul to me. Now I know why the whole of Nolto cast became Jinki devotees lmao. There is something formidable about what he's expressing. Life, Death, Eternity and the laws of cyclical things are inevitable and will circle back whether you want it to or not, which can be both stifling and comforting. Circle is a kind of song that is made up of tapestry of emotions and it mirrors whatever that is you feel in the moment, which can be both grief or comfort. It connects and resonates with you. Overall, this MV was very philosophical and healing but sometimes when you leap up into broader emotional landscape and read through the lyrics and give it's themes a shot it's so saddening too. This whole album is a masterpiece and unlike anything you see in kpop. I expect a full album reaction from you guys.

The ending comment is just so true. We love a good choreography but being able to just stand there and sing to draw people in just hits differently. I truly miss that about what Kpop is about now. I don't want an album full with songs where the choreography is the focus. I want ballads, emotions, stories,... That's why I love Onew and especially Shinee cause they give us that. I miss when title tracks didn't need a choreo to be a good song.

There's something in the lyrics, portraying the passage of time, with the seasons of the year, and it hit me the first time I listened to the song because that's the same figure BIGBANG used for their last song "봄여름가을겨울 (Still Life)", lyrics that are also in the chorus of "O (Circle)". But ONEW's voice is just transcendental, a happening in itself, and having him giving this kind of larger than life song it becomes just overwhelming. I loved having Jacob and Kayla Rae reacting to this song. Also Jason could have provided some philosophical insight, but usually Kayla Rae is just incredibly accurate in its way of explain emotions.

Onew’s voice is so healing. ❤ I’ve been a fan since SHINee’s debut. I still think he’s underrated and I love seeing others appreciate his voice!

when i first heard circle ( i'm new to shinee world just for context) i had a moment of catharsis, with the changing of seasons and the vocals of onew singing it, the lyrics and imagery all washed over me at once

Emotions plus vocals. There's so much restraint and thought put into the MV and song it's unmissable. It's powerful but not in your face. Onew has a quality of silence and resilience that shines through this song. I love it.

When they were talking about instruments that describe his voice , I kept on thinking about his 'Caramel' mouth trumpet.

The way you describe Onew's voice as a mix between French Horn and flugelhorn is somehow accurate.

The song has that very Nostalgic feel. The song is very Onew like. I once heard someone say Onew uses his voice as an instrument so I like you trying to describe his voice with an instrumental.
