A skate prodigy who made his mark in the most influential vid of all time. The best comeback in skate history nearly 20 years later with Fully Flared. And now a KOTR 2011 win with Lakai. Long live Mariano!
fact!! The whole video was fire. Rudy was the tech and we all loved that song. JasonLee was the style smooth king. TheGonz was TheGodfather And Guymar quick-snap Bside 180's were something that all skater in this era mastered.. Backside kickflips off plaza handicap bumps were also evolved from this video. We started skating faster & that Parking Garage nose BluntSlide was huge. Nobody could do boseblunts backside. And we only just starting to do backside regular blunts. I hated backside blunts cause it's make or Meat!
Amazing ! If he didn't disappear for so long he could've been even greater. Its skaters like Mariano and Penny that helped pave the way to more technical switch tricks in what was probably the best era of skateboarding, the 90's.
It's so awsome how he went from skate prodigy who is as good as the pros to amazing pro to skate legend in his 30's who is still better than most pros.
This part is without a doubt classic. I'd like to add that the Tim & Henry's Pack of Lies GUY footage is also ridiculously good, as he's shedding the "cute kid" identity and moving into his enigmatic '92-'95 phase. He barely put out any footage or photos during this time and still managed to be crazy popular. It's kind of amazing how that happens.
I used to watch this everyday before I went skating. This video is what skating is all about. It wasn't all about money in those days. it was about skating.
Good old times...back then I watched the Blind vid felt 1.000.000 times and damn I still fucking love it! Thanks a lot for sharing can't find my video tape anymore!:-)
Haha love when he picks the board up at the end and means to explain something.. and it doesn’t get to it 😅🙏 crazy how consistent he was at that young age..
He might not have invented all sorts of crazy, or fundamental tricks like Mullen. But even at 14 he just looked so comfortable, natural, solid, like not timid or hesitant, and on a really fucking big board too.....Guy, And Rudy, were. and still are just as good as Jason and gonz......
Definitely agree with that comment about them being as good esp as j lee When lil Guy Mariano lands and a trick and starts pushing for his next The look in his face is skateboarding right there.. perhaps the gayest thing ive typed on yt
Marco Arce I think of Guy and Colin McKay in the same way, one as a vert skater, the other a street skater. If you've seen McKay's part in Propaganda you know what I mean.
That's where it started really. Curb tricks were huge back in the late 80's early 90's before everything went big. Loved Blind boards, miss those boards, even had the wider trucks back then.
the lines was soo much cooler bakc in the days, they r still cool, but it looks so cool with all those shuvs and flips fast in a row, really nice video!
The bside into the bank. Might not be the biggest but it’s still one of the hardest most basic of tricks. How easy does he make it look. Best skate video.
You sneaky bastards Thrasher, way to give away the winner of KOTR, I purposely avoided the celebration video. Looks like you got me. Anyways, this is such an inspiring part, fluid style, and it makes me wanna skate for the fun of it.
