Put painters tape down first, then add hot glue….so when you peel it off, the tape comes right off!

I use a permanent marker to write directly on the desks. I also teach 3rd grade and the students like to see their name written in cursive😊

i loved seeing my name in cursive when i was in third grade! you can get it off with sanitizer or expo spray i think!

long time teacher tip: when you roll masking tape put it on your piece horizontal. If you put it verticle, it can "roll" off the wall easily. (hope that makes sense!)

Love your enthusiasm and great ideas. A fun stem activity is pattern blocks with mirrors. Hinged mirrors add to the fun. One suggestion: swap the glue bottles into the black boxes and put the index cards and sticky notes in that drawer. Those glue bottles need to be standing up or you’re likely to have a gluey mess in that drawer. (From a long-time elementary teacher, now retired but still addicted to class room set up videos !)

If I remember correctly, you had tons of math manipulatives. Those are always great options for stem bins-unifix cubes, pattern blocks, geo boards, etc. Also cheap items from the Dollar Tree could be good options-straws (cut in half), popsicle sticks, etc. Any resource that could encourage open-ended play and exploration. Your room is looking so good and I love all your storage!

I use neon chalk markers on the front of their desks. My students absolutely loved to see their names in bright colors and it made it easier for classroom guests to address students by name too. As a bonus, chalk markers are easy to clean off at the end of the year!

Hi! I taught third grade for many, many years! It was my absolute favorite grade to teach. You are going to love it! I did not use nameplates on my desks. You are right about them not needing all of that extra information. They also would definitely pick at them! I think numbers are the perfect option. Especially if you’re going to have a switch teacher, and you have two rotations. I’m excited to see how your classroom comes out! I hope you have a really wonderful year! 😊

Numbers would be great, because you can use their numbers for other organization set ups too. The numbers by the backpack won’t last long with masking tape. Packing tape over the numbers would work well and usually last several years. They are going to get a lot of wear and tear by the backpacks. You could also label spaces on the bottom shelf too. That would help make it less crowded on the hooks. Great video, best of luck this year!

Everything is looking great, Katie. I like the cohesiveness of the black baskets. I use nameplates and name tags in my class. I put their name and number on the tags. I think the students like to see their names in the classroom. I think it was also helpful when there was a guest teacher in the room. I really need to make some STEM bins for students to use during indoor recess.

I used hot glue on cinder block and it didn't damage it and it just peeled off if it was on the block. Sticky tack works pretty good to hang small things. I've found clear packing tape works better than the other. Looking good!

I have BrainFlakes in my Kindergarten room! It does take them a bit to learn to work with them, but they absolutely LOVE them once they have used them a few times! I also used them with older kiddos and printed direction cards from TPT as challenges for them!

I use name tags in third with a multiplication table, cursive alphabet, a few shapes they typically forget. They use the multiplication table all year. i think its a fantastic resource!!

I love the numbers on desks. I used to put small round colored stickers in the corners and write the numbers myself. I used them all year to support math in 5th. I'd use the numbers to make random groups ("if your number is a multiple of 3...if your number is prime...etc") or to line up differently. In 3rd, you could say "if your number is 9-4..." etc. I used the colors for groupings, too.

Craft sticks, the wide ones, with Velcro on the ends make great STEM bins. Bengals blocks and wooden cubes from dollar tree work good too.

Blocks Rock is a great game! I like the way u & ur husband counted b4 u both looked at the card at the same time. Some students like 2 cheat. I also like the way the pictures r printed on both ends of the card so students can follow how to build the shapes from where they r sitting when they play the game.

Love the number idea! I always used numbers and they would change so often as my class list changed, so that’s perfect because you can change the numbers easily! I may have to steal your idea. Also, agree with name tags getting ugly, so I have used magnets and put the magnetic name tag in front of desk. Good for a sub and easy access to grab from students.

Name tags in cursive is a great idea for the kids to see. I also like to put name tags on the front of the desks for me and other teachers, subs, presenters to learn the kids' names. It also helps when rearranging desks to remember whose desk is whose.

I know this is too late but a little teacher trick, put masking tape on the wall or whatever surface you're sticking to and then put the hot glue on the masking tape and stick whatever to that. It works! I have cinderblock wall to and then no scraping hot glue off! Hope that helps!

I like that blocks rock game. I would like to do stem bins in the morning instead of morning work, too. I’m also a third grade teacher. I put name tags. I didn’t even tape them, so when they ripped or got lost they weren’t even necessary anymore. Basically, name tags just for the beginning of the year. Consider using one of those paper drawers for graph paper. We used graph paper when we taught area, perimeter, and rectilinear shapes.

For your STEM kits kids love Popsicle sticks and clothespins. You connect the popsicle sticks with the clothespins. Also, tooth picks and modeling clay. Small stickers and index cards are fun for them to make pictures with. If you have a budget, KEVA planks rule.

I teach 3rd too. I had to pull the erasers from my third graders. They take them all, build with them, stack them etc. I noticed they are not as excited about them if I get all red ones. I love the numbers with multiplication facts but struggle with the answers posted in front of my students. Each student has a white board, marker and eraser in their desk because we use them almost daily. Sometimes I have them bring an old sock to use as an eraser. I am so jealous of your storage.What I like most about putting their names instead of numbers is it helps substitutes and we have had administrators walk into our room and address students by their name.

I got this from another RU-vid teacher… she uses hot glue to put things on her wall but she puts a piece of painters tape on the wall first. Painters tape is easy to remove and the hot glue keeps the item adhered to your wall.

Hot glue definably can pull paint off block walls. Someone told me a great tip! Put painter's tape on the wall and hot glue the poster or it onto the painter's tape. It stays all year and when you want to move it, it pulls off clean!

Painters tape holds on my cabinets and wood surfaces! If it’s not holding posters, definitely put painters tape then hot glue! I always think using names is better than numbers when possible. Love the idea of cursive names. You can still use your adhesive squares but I would make a cute square with their name to put it in :) Love your videos!

It's coming together!! I have put painter's tape on the wall/cabinet/cupboard and then hot glued the decor. onto the painter's tape. Then it's easy to take off, but I'm not sure if the painter's tape will hold. Does that make sense? Keep up the great videos!

Clear packing tape works better for me than masking tape in rooms that get very hot and humid when the air is off. I hate walking in every morning to find things in the floor that have to be put back up!

For your numbers, you could use glue dots. Also, maybe extend 8 & 9 on the top and then put 10, 11, 12 separately on a cabinet door so 11 isn’t separate. Just a thought. It still looks good. I hope this made sense. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Plain name tags, no alphabet/ number line needed usually. 3rd graders do state testing so they can’t have access to that all year. Hot glue never sticks to cinder block. Packing tape works too.

As a third grade teacher I don’t think name tags are necessary. I do, however, have students color in bubble font letter name tags of their name and laminate it. I then use velcro to attach it to their desk. I only do this because I let my students switch seats every quarter. That way way they can move their name tag to whichever desk they move too. I also let my students pick their own seats throughout the year. I made the expectations known of course :)

I don’t know how big the backpacks your students use, but my 4th graders use rather large ones. I wouldn’t be able to put 2 on a single hook. A thought might be to put the number next to the hook so they could see the numbers with backpacks hanging up.

Have you tried glue stick? I glue stick laminated words to my classroom door. And they peel off easy at the end of the year, and I just use a surface cleaner to clean the glue off.

I use the Target pockets to label their name and number on their chair instead of the desk. They don't pick at it as much.

Since you're teaching cursive this year, I'd highly recommend writing your students' names in cursive somewhere on their desks. I don't think you need super in depth name tags, but yes, I'd still encourage you to have their names.

I have students bring in a family photo to share with the class! I hang one up too and will ask special area teachers, counselors, and principal to share one with my class for us to hang as well! Then throughout the year I'll add some photos from in the classroom of the kiddos together in our class family!

Sometimes a number line to 20 can still bee helpful in 3rd grade on the desk but if it's not there they will use other resources.

Those cubbies would be great for STEAM bin storage. I would do names with the numbers. I personally have an issue with referring to students solely by a number. At least their desks should have their names.
